I've just seen on the news that the British government is considering a new incentive for over weight people. I say incentive very tongue in cheek.
They are considering giving any man who buys clothes with a 40 inch waist or over and women with a 35 inch waist or over a leaflet when they buy clothes in shops with an obesity help line number on it.
Im gob smacked - what do you think?

Nanny state gone mad but since there is a welfare state and healthcare costs all of us and since overweight people have more health risks and problems than average people, it probably isn't such a bad idea. Personally I'd tax outsize clothes more like the government taxes cigarettes, as an incentive to stop smoking or in this case to lose weight.lol The logic is the same, smoking costs healthcare as does obesity. Take that to its logical conclusion and you'd be taxing sex because of increased risk of STDs which cost healthcare but hell, Tony Blair is in power, anything is possible!

Well I don't think those measurements are exactly what I would term obese. They want to give these pamphlets out because fat people don't know they're fat or something?....duh! I don't know any overweight people who don't know they're overweight. I would think that if they wanted information on obesity they would find it for themselves. I would be really insulted by a store telling me I needed to lose weight.

Perhaps are more useful would be to equire by Law that all extra size clothing is on the top floor of shops and that lifts etc don't work to ensure the use of stairs, you could also outlaw drive in McDonalds......there seem to be innumerable ways to really make obese people feel worse about themselves. Perhap they'll start thinking of having a symbol on the sleeve that indicates "I am a fat person and should be ashamed of myself".......
Public information braodcasts on healthy eating and excerxce paid for by taxing the industial food and junk food businesses would perhaps be more effective combined with better and cheaper leisure facilities that combine social & fun activities with mild exercise.

35 inches for a woman? So UK size 12 (US 10) is obese!?

How f'in stupid is that? I'm 5'10'' and have a waist of 36 ins - I dont think I look even vaguely overweight at 170lbs.

But, it looks like I'm obese and never realised. But then again, with my genetics, I'm actually fine LOL!

This argument that bad living habits costs us all ; I wonder how true it really is, The earlier you "kick off" the less you cost the the Health Service. Its fogeys like me who are going to cost you all, and I've just lost about 15/16 pounds.

I'm really skinny gutted now !

It depends on how tall a woman and a man are if these measurements are "obese".. therefore the whole idea seems silly to me.

What's next? BMI activated snack food lock-ups in the corner store?

Jeez. It'll be back to the youthful days of hanging out in the parking lot trying to get people to buy you booze.

"Hey man, here's $10. Will you get me a bag of chips and a pop?"

Lady Ellen,

I think your sizing is a bit off...Im a US size 12 and i have a 29 inch waiste...43 inch hips,  but a 29 inch waiste...and yes by the American Medical Association scales and charts i am obese...Im not mobidly obese..but honestly I am a bit chunky and well whether I  like it or not the term obese is a medical term  its based on a medical height to weight ratio...granted If i were actually in shape and toned...my body would be smaller but i would weigh more...

I just figured I would give you that little piece of information

Are they hinting to the person that they might be fat and should diet? Wow! How did the customer not already know that after trying on the pants and looking in the mirror?

"What's this number for? Do you think I need to loose weight? I had no idea my tummy stuck out a little. My wife loves it. She calls my stomach the Play Ground and loves to play. But I had no idea I was fat. I'd diet but I love Newcastle Brown Ale to much. It's great stuff and is good for the heart."

Why point out the obvious to someone? This type of harrasment is only making people feel unwanted. Will this cause people to loose weight because they want to or because they're tired of being beat on by its own government? What would Church Hill say about this if he where around today?

Can we in return sue them for harrasment? I'd love to make big bucks on a harrasment case for only 40 dollars for the pants lol.
