I just noticed that I have a better library then my towns library is.

Why?   do we have any avid readers in the house?  any collectors? any particular type of books that excite you?

if i said santa is bring you some boooks, on what topic would it be?

We read constantly.  I read poetry, short stories, fiction, biography, history.  My wife reads philosophy, religion, science, and anything written in or about Japanese.  And we switch off then (except for my reading Japanese, which sucks). 

Santa could bring me any sort of noir fiction.  I've been rereading the classics, and I love genre stuff.  Outsider (minority/gay-lesbian/disabled) mystery fiction, any good dark writing, even BAD dark writing.  Love it all...

...except vampire crime stuff.  Yechhhh.  been there, done that.

I could put a free ad in my churches newsetter.

Tropic of Cancer is my FAVORITE book thus far............................but everybody should read Charles Lamb's essays for a good rowdy guffaw.

I use BookCrossing to help my books find new homes -- the ones I'm willing to give up, that is.  I'm a bit psycho about hanging onto most of my books... can't help it.

Check out the site.  They have smaller local swap groups and several forums as well, any of which might interest you.

Do you have books to swap with others?  At this site you can list books and receive books from other members.  All it will cost you is the price of postage to send your listed books when requested by others:

Henry Miller is one of my all time favorite writers. I have almost all of his books, except for Sunday After the War. Some other favorites: Charles Bukowski, Kurt Vonnegut, Robert B. Parker, Harlan Ellison, Hunter S. Thompson, PJ O'Rourke....

Avid reader.. you could say so.. I read 2-3 books a week. I own just over 7500 books. they non fiction on all sorts of topics, and fiction covering nearly all genres. I'm an avid book collector. I now many of the books I buy may never read. and yet I still collect, and can never ever throw a book away. Books are such special things. I love em! My favourite authors...well probably like my wide taste in music. Everything frmo AA milne (winnie the pooh) to Terry Pratchett, Steven King to Charles Dickens, Silverberg, Pohl, Asimov, to Cornwell, rankin and herbert. I'll read anything and if I like the book, then I'll search down every book the authors written. As for Santa....I've a list of books on WW1 I'm slowly collecting as research for my own writing. But for relaxation I'll have some book vouchers and put them aside for the next Terry Pratchett, or Steven King, or Bernard Cornwell!

got to go...reading to be done!

i tend to read at least a book a week, but mostly light fiction... i use the library heavily because i seldom re-read.... buying enough to keep me entertained would seriously crimp my food budget. We still have a wall full of books.
However, i would definitely like a set of the Dave Gingery books for Xmas [:)] i think my wife would regret it, though... it's all fun and games until the garage explodes.
And i can't post in a book-related thread on a D/s forum without pimping Jacqueline Carey. If you haven't read the Kushiel Trilogy, you should. Really really.

I just splurged on some books today, something I almost never do.  I got 3 philosophy of science books, and Catherine Beecher's The American Woman's Home, one of the early books on domestic economy.

interesting....I am an avid reader, although I have been reading mostly books for my courses lately....however I am beginning to read an interesting book on the myths of former Chilean president Salvador Allende, stating that although he was openly a Marxist, in his youth he supported many "medical" ideas that were popular in Nazi Germany...interesting contradictions. I love reading history, biographies, etc....I think doing a community book swap is a good idea, although personally I could never do it, as I care for my books too much and would be worried if someone did not return them, or returned them with some damage....
