Since I've admitted to downloading free music, as I suspect most here have, If i say yes, your answer is obvious, as would it be were I to say no. The reality is, my intent wasnt to cast any aspersion on the right or wrong of doing so, but merely to point out that it was happening, in prolific quantity worldwide, and the fact that I could care less, you've manipulated into this attack on my ethics, and further have taken offense at my words, which were never directed at you personally.

Oh!.........the irony! Musicians are (blank), music is (blank). The sorts of sweeping generalisations a certain artist in this thread felt that I had made in relation to artists and art on another thread, and complained bitterly about it until it was pointed out to him that such was not the intention. I'd agree though - too much of today's "rock" is overproduced, overhyped commercial crap that lacks any of the spirit which defines rock. And lets not even talk about boy bands, girl bands and the masses of ill educated but PC literate dicks who can rhyme at a 3rd grade level in pre-school English; all of whom are promoted to death to youngsters who themselves lack any spirit of rebellion and gladly conform to the brain death such "music" requires. Such crap is not art. However, art as the expression of the human condition through song lives on in the background. Sooner or later, a new generation will come which will rebel against the marketing men - in fact it is happening now - just as punk came crashing into and wiped out the scandalous musical crimes of the 70s, and led us to twenty years of real music. Paradoxically perhaps, it is the technology which has made possible the crap of recent years, which is enabling this revolution; bands no longer need to conform to marketing formulae set out by executives - they go straight to the net and achieve success on their own merits. My advice; buy any youngster in your family an electric guitar, amp and distortion pedal this Christmas. This way, there will always be a supply of angry young rockers to supply real songs. And to impress the gals, of course LOL. And as for the visual arts. There will be no pics unless behaviour improves. E

To MGDartist: Although you acknowledged it but then quickly pushed it aside, I believe that age might play a factor in how you feel about music today. The other is perhaps you hate rap or perhaps that with the blossoming of so many labels and artists that you have found it difficult to search out those artists that would appeal to your tastes today...many don't get a whole lot of air play which means you got to do a little more leg work with the majority of stations being corporate owned.(bad topic...for another thread) Musicsal tastes are vast...but to throw everything out that is produced today under the guise of it doesn't compare to the past is unfounded. I personally am not a huge fan of rap but even in that genre I have stumbled across some gems that have enriched my life and reached that place where only music touches. Perhaps you are a dinosaur or maybe you just got lazy. I don't know...but I still enjoy seeing live music, and consider my tastes to be selective...I deeply love the music I was raised and grew up with but still think that some of what is out there today has relevance and should be equally enjoyed. As for Spitfire Girl don't know if you live close to Chicago...would enjoy sharing a drink and discussing music and and perhaps what type of music best or specific song compliments flogging a woman....lol...Nice post...although it was hijacked....It gets me thinking to get back into one of the local shops and check out some new music...and for that I thank you. out. How thrilling to have LE honor us with her presence and wise commentary.-- So it would seem among this group, having the audacity to disagree with the OP constitutes thread hijackery, and further stating opinions as I have makes me a dinosaur and lazy, and further, even condone music piracy, and as the young are usually prone to think, anyone who doesn't share their view on something as sacred as music must just be old. Pardon if I dont dignify such assumptions with further comment, knowing I'd not make a dent in the heads of those who present them. Nor did I ever mean to, nor insult or irritate anyone beyond just saying what I think. And what I think remains as it began, as the words presented here couldnt ever pull it off, as I leave such possible epiphanies to that which enters my ears, which despite my being ancient, still function perfectly. I once hated it when my uncle said it to me when younger, but I fear it remains as truth: "It's a shame that youth is wasted on the young"

Randy lives on Saltspring Island and he has a few years on me - and drums are my chosen, so no match there. Sorry to disappoint you once again. You can call me randy, with a small r though. The site is not a free DL site but a small, independent label that treats it artists and listeners with respect. It is everything the big pop labels and are not. There are samples online and generous sampler CDs to be had for a song (and a few bucks - you know, take a musician to lunch...). Z.
