No idea.  Never done it.  Though it's something I've wondered about myself.  I have issues with the possibility of circulation and whatnot.  I know for me personally, unless in a -very- back-supportive position, that kind of bondage would be impossible for me to endure without severe pain....and the neighbors would freak and call the cops from the screams of pain.

I know because of my last car accident, I was left strapped to a board at the hospital and they wouldn't remove it until they were sure that I didn't have any neck fractures, or give me anything for the pain for hours on end...it was torture on my mother, seeing and hearing my screaming and crying.

As long as someone's there at all times in case of a fire, earthquake, panic attacks, constriction of blood flow or just general concerns for his or her safety, nothing wrong with it all.

If however, you're planning on leaving the building for more than 3 minutes...I'd track you down, light your car on fire, piss on your favorite dress, and shoot you as soon as I got free.

Status: offline 		Depends on the sub and how they are bound.  I have a friend who does this to one of her subs, she leaves a baby monitor in the room in case he needs help in the middle of the night.

Status: offline 		From personal experience, do not boud them in a way that keeps their joints bent.

I was locked wrists to neck and overnight my elbows seized up and caused imense pain.

Status: offline 		It really depends on the level of bondage you seek to do overnight. Attaching a chain to the bed and to an ankle cuff every night is pretty safe as long as you both know where the keys are or how to remove the restraint in the event of a real emergency. More elaborate bondage has to be balanced against being able to free them in one minute and never leave someone tied up and unmonitored.

Status: offline 		As most have said, it does depend on the slave and the bondage.
Cages, ropes, body suits, strait jackets, handcuffs, whatever- depends on how confining in what ways and what accommodations can be made.

And, in my case, whether you're interested in waking up in the middle of the night to let me get to the bathroom or ok with me pissing on whatever I happen to be laying on.

Status: offline 		For me personaly, I love the feeling of being tied to the bed at night.  However I always need to get up at least once!  I can fall back asleep quite easily and Argent cannot, if I wake him he is awake an hour or more.  So we have a rope tied to the post of the bed at my head, long enough that I can roll over and not tangle myself up.  But the loop is not tied real tight so I am able to fold up my fingers and slip out if I need to.  I then can slip back in.  This also enables me to get up half hour before Argent and go make his coffee in the AM and bring it back to bed.  So, you ask ... what is the purpose if I can free myself? It is the feeling it gives us when he slips the loop on my wrist as we fall asleep, and the symbolism of it. It works for us and is safe.

I've had thoughts in the past about some way of having this kind of thing for our bed.  I've got claustrophobia and some other anxiety problems, mainly situational, it rears it's head at very surprising times and is hard to monitor on my end sometimes.

So I've been rather ....hesitant about extended types of bondage, and any that we do practice is very easy for me to get out of if I need to.

Yet another thing for me to ponder *smiles*

One thing that I was told was that it is not good to leave someone bound face down since the effort it takes to get a breath when the chest and abdomen are being compressed by the weight of the bound persons body. The bound person can lose the ability to breathe due to exhaustion.

The last thing one needs to have happen is for their partner to stop breathing. That would be a tragedy.

Status: offline 		I lived with a mistress (two years) who used steel overnight bondage. It was uncomfortable at first but there were never any problems. So, this is the best way to go. Prisoners in some countries still wear shackles 24/7 for years. In old days it was a norm. I agree rope bondage takes a good specialist to apply the way a slave gets enough rest. One of my former mistresses used a simple rope waist belt and she tied my hands for night on sides with short lenght of rope between the waist and hands (similar to prisoner transport cuffs). The idea was to prevent me touching my genitals at night. It worked well. Fire, earthquake, and so on should not be a  problem as the probability of occurring is too small.

My kitten sleeps on a pallet at the foot of the bed, wears her kitty collar (leather with buckle fastener to avoid tightening in her sleep).  I attach a 4ft. leash to the bedpost; long enough to allow position changes but not get wrapped around her neck in doing so.  When she needs to go to the bathroom, she simply releases the leash loop to be freed and wraps the loop back onto the bedpost upon return.  I'm a bed-hog and prefer to sleep alone in bed, she likes that secure feeling of ownership and I don't see any safety precautions overlooked.  By the way, if someone does, feel free to make them known.

Yes, it is true that these events are not likely... that does not, however, mean that you should not take the appropriate safety precautions so the the sub/slave can be released on a moments notice in the event of such an emergency. Just because it's not LIKELY to happen doesnt mean it WONT happen.

All joking aside....for you it might be best, but there could be a smidge of a chance that it would not be the best for -everyone-, mkay?

And not to be nitpicky, but when there is even a small probability of something happening, I personally would err on the side that it -could- happen, or something else that could create a situation for the need of a speedy and safe extraction from said bindings.  But then, that's me.  Not everyone.

Status: offline 		i have been tethered to the bedpost with a wrist cuff and leash, however in my case if i needed to get up in the night, even though i could easily take the leash off the bedpost, i was instructed to wake Master.  This worked well for me because it was both some physical as well as mental bondage.

Much depends on the individual but "safe" is not really an issue if you use some commonsense.
 
First rule of sleeping bound is that she sleeps alongside me.  I'm a fairly light sleeper and any unusual noises from her will wake me.
 
Secondly is the preferred equipment.  For wrists, I favour leather cuffs joined with a dog clip rather than the usual padlock so I'm not fiddling in the dark (or still half asleep) for keys in an emergency....  Sure, any sub worth her salt could get out of them with a bit of effort but since it's just for sleeping, it kind of defeats the point trying....  And if she did anyway, she can sleep unbound on the floor.
 
I've occasionally used cloth bandage, too - more strict than cuffs but still comfortable.  Rope is too risky (IMO) and is best left for "real" bondage - the kind she can't escape from no matter how much effort she exerts.
 
After all these years, the one thing I can never seem to wrap my mind around is just how well a sub can sleep with her hands bound behind....  Sure, there's a few physical aches in the morning but they're usually menatally refreshed as one is with a solid night's sleep.

Status: offline 		I have spent many nights bound for my Masters' pleasure; with one Master, it was every night for a couple years unless one of us was ill.  I really do not mind it-especially if it means alot to him, but care must be taken.  Rope does not work overnight usually, as there are circulation issues.  Leather wrist and ankle cuffs locked on with my collar locked on and chained to the headboard with enough chain to move around safely.  There is a good site called luvbite.com that has a very good section on overnight bondage.
