ARGH Here I was all excited about it FINALLY being Hanukkah and being able to celebrate it properly with DCS…and the day is FINALLY upon us. And then in my research I come across the problem with Shabbat- not being able to light a fire after sundown on Friday until sundown on Saturday. From what I know, this means you should light the Hanukkah candles BEFORE sunset on those particular days. Unfortunately, I won’t get home until AFTER sunset and definitely into nightfall tonight. Should I just tell my partner to go ahead tonight without me or break the Shabbat? Considering how many other traditions we’re not completely following (like the fact that I’m not a Jew, where we’ve placed the menorah’s, etc) I’d enjoy performing the ritual with him rather than follow Shabbat. But is Shabbat stronger than Hanukkah? Advice?
