RedSavageSlave -> Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/4/2006 9:44:03 AM)

Taken from someone else's comment on another thread.. what are some good rules of thumb you would give someone before tackling the forums on here..

The comment that caught my attention was this:

Wear a raincoat to protect yourself from pissing contests..

Can anyone think of others?

Get a thick skin and a sense of humour.

If you think this site is role play, or if the only thing you know about the community is from role play, go role play and leave us out of it.

just accept that others you speak with come from totally different worlds than you...be careful what you say not to offend others...think before you speak. remember that racism hurts.

Learn to spell. Failing that, learn to use a spellchecker. God knows I'm not the worlds greatest speller but its so much easier to understand what someone is trying to say when the spell it correctly. Even if typos are funny as hell sometimes. [:D]

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/4/2006 10:35:44 AM)

yes spelling is key. i understand that not everyone can spell 100 percent all the time but have your work checked...I agree.

And please..dont make a multiple paragraph reply into one long run on sentence..

Learn to separate your thoughts accordingly.

Don't take everything to heart, Understand that if after reading you post and ask peoples oppinions you will get them though might not always be what you wanted to hear, and remember everyone is different.

Don't treat a difference of opinion as a personal assault, and when presenting a differing opinion  hold off on the "Jane you ignorant slut" precursor statements.

Also...when a difference of opinion does occur....don't feel that it's your sworn duty to beat the other person  over the head with your opinion in hopes that they will see the light and agree with you.

#1. I understand that we all have access to the dancing banana, but truly, don't feed the monkey's. [sm=banana.gif]

#2. Don't 'be' a monkey.

#3. Own your words and realize that if you present 'facts' someone is sure to check them out and call you on them if you're wrong. That's a sure fire way to lower your credibility.

#4. It's possible that you're wrong. Admit it and move on. It's possible that you're right, don't expect anyone else to admit it.. and move on.

#5. Beating a dead horse is one of the least productive things you can do with your time. Go bake a pie or something instead.

#6. Pissing contests can be a hoot and are fun to watch, but they do get old if that's 'all' you contribute.

#7. Highjacks can and do take place in any thread on any given day. Once you create a topic, it's no longer yours and it will go where it goes. You can try to get it back on track, but that won't always work. There are some folks who make it their forum life's work to start or highjack threads just to spew venom and they're more experienced at destruction than you are at preservation. Think of them as Terminators. They are relentless. Best to block them early so they don't annoy you.

"Engage brain before putting keyboard in gear" has always been one of My favourites.

LaTigresse -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/4/2006 12:33:03 PM)

Learn to pass over posts that will annoy you rather than feeling like you have been hired to police the website.

Unless of course, you have actually be designated as a collarme police person like that sexy mod 11. And, nooooo I don't know said person or anything like that, I just like their style! I wanna see her spank benji some day for real! [:D]

pinkkeith -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/4/2006 12:39:00 PM)

If you are going to tackle the forums, make sure you are wearing the propery safety gear, helmet and pads.

LotusSong -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/4/2006 12:46:25 PM)

"That's  taco shy of a combo plate".

BlackFyre -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/5/2006 7:49:30 AM)

"Leave your ego at the door."

Another favourite of Mine.

Lashra -> RE: Good Rules of Thumb for reading posts on CM (12/5/2006 8:03:47 AM)

Don't believe that others have the right to attempt to force their opinions onto you and preach to you that their lifestyle choices are the ONLY lifestyle choices. Don't think for an instant that you can't stand up for yourself, but most of all block can be your friend in cases were a person is just noise that you desire to silence.[:)]
