IMO... the net only sucks if you're trying to find a suitable partner.

Other than that, it's the best collective source of information that hasn't yet been whitewashed by the powers that be. Though admittedly, there's also misinformation to be found on the net as well.

Why do you say that?  Several people have found partners via the net.

As a percentage of those looking, the numbers are miniscule.

For a hint, take a look at the small post volume on the Positive Experiences forum, and compare it to the endless whine OPs about being unable to match-up or even get a response to approach e-mails.

Nets are very good tools for finding partners, especially non-consentual ones.

But seriously, the internet is full of information and misinformation, just as any source should be.  Who decides what's true and what isn't?  If there was a governing body that decided only certain things were allowed (truth) a lot of humour would go, this site prolly too, and many things I enjoy about the internet.

Maybe people will eventually learn to sort through stuff and make their own opinions.

Yours,

benji

I didn't suggest that you were looking. I only offered my opinion...

Well... what exactly is it that you're seeking on the net that you can't seem to find?

One of my favorite sites is http://www.stumbleupon.com/
I spend time there when I have time to kill waiting for things to download, etc.

It's just not the net..ever looked in a library or bookstore... all have their share of junk, spam, misinformation.  It just depends on what you're seeking, what you look at or for, etc.

As for "sucking" when trying to find a partner, i didn't notice the 'nilla world being any better (or worse) and not even all that different when ya come right down to it..lol

cheers,
jimini

I think that the information on the net can be overwhelming at times simply because there is so damn much and I can easily lose hours of my life browing websites.  I fully admit to being an information freak and  I also can spend a day in a bookshop or library and still be craving more information!  It can be frustrating to need to trawl through so much rubbish but overall the internet has given me much easier access to a lot of information that previously I would have had to search for using libraries, encyclopaedias and phone books.

I actually love the net. I am one of those people that has an insatiable curiousity for just about everything.

Weird stuff like, I see a coyote running thru a field on my way to work, start thinking about them and their lives. Bing, I wonder something like, "How many litters of pups does a coyote have a year? What is a normal gestation for a coyote?" As soon as I get to work I either look it up or make a note to.

Or, I will be reading a magazine and gain interest in an author or artist and have to do a search for more info on them. Order a book or music CD, or look at more of that artists work.

I just luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv the net!

I think the "net" is much worse in some regards and a lot better in other regards. I mean 6 years ago I couldn't go to google video and type in "bbc" for example and be able to watch any of probably a 100+ documentaries, just from that one outlet. So, video is everywhere and becoming available more and more so, and the quality if you have a decent connection is almost the same as tv.

But it's much worse from a information sorting perspective. Even though the search engines "supposedly" are better, the sheer load of crap dumped on the net is enourmous. Now, that the internet is "cool" (It wasn't always considered cool), everyone and their grandma throw all kinds of repetitive and useless crap that clog up the searches.

Just a guess here but it seems like the real information is doubling a year and the crap is quadrupling.

Hello A/all,

I personally think the only problem with the internet is similar to the problem that guns have; to whit, the only dangerous part of a gun is the nut behind the trigger.

The Internet is a tool.  A person can find all sorts of useful information on it.  A person can also allow their lives to be consumed by it.  In and of itself, it is simply out there to allow people to disseminate information.

Just me, etc.

Sinergy
