KatyLied -> RE: help= fridge door came off (11/30/2006 11:47:21 AM)

I don't know.  The sink in my bathroom is leaking.  I've tightened everything.  And I put a towel down.  Hoping for the best.  hehe

Did it just fall off? With or without hinges?

And for future reference, chaining slaves to refigerator door handles is usually a bad idea - around the base of toilet bowls usually provides a much safer hitching post due to the anchor bolts.

slaveMastery -> RE: help= fridge door came off (11/30/2006 11:59:55 AM)

Does it leak when/where water flows in or when/where it drains?

Oh yeah...sink is closer to the toilet bowl, but also not a secure hitching post.

I thought you needed duct tape and bailing wire and WD-40?

Archer -> RE: help= fridge door came off (11/30/2006 12:37:03 PM)

If it just fell off likely it is the bottom hinge point that has shifted. Take the top hinge point off, reposstion the bottom hinge point tighten it really well, if it is bent you may have to straighten it back out or replace it, put the door back on the botom hinge point then slide the top hinge point over the door and reattach it to the fridge.

If it's a modern fridge, those hinge points are probably concealed under plastic covers.  Pop those off first.

sub4hire -> RE: help= fridge door came off (12/1/2006 12:57:03 PM)

Good Luck, we had to remove our doors to get it in the house.  Disconnecting the water and re-connecting it was no easy task.  Especially when it is covered in that plastic you really don't want to just break off.

More than likely it somehow came off the hinge.  However, when we put our doors back on we now need to have them aligned so they close properly.
So as I said, good luck.

Okay, I actually have some experience in this, owning rental property.

First thing you do is tighten any loose screws (on both the door as well as the main body).

Make sure of course that the unit is level (sometimes this causes undue wear on the hinges, thereby causing eventual failure of said hinges).

Carefully clean any detritus from the hinge and coupler area (q-tips and rubbing alcohol is fine for this).

Lightly spray WD-40 on all moving parts.

Call appliance repairman.

Open beer.

Wait for appliance repairman.

Drink beer.

My version...
Open beer
Drink
Call repairman
Drink more beer
Call pizza delivery
Drink even more and make sure to tell the pizza guy to bring beer too.

(Significantly superior solution)

Sears has 24 hr repair service. For now, just use bungie cord straps till someone comes.

Lordandmaster -> RE: help= fridge door came off (12/1/2006 9:13:57 PM)

As you well know, that shit doesn't work.

This is very effective from my personal experience with such things.
