dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 9:08:04 AM)

CURRENT QUARTET:

Massachusetts
Delaware
Texas
New Jersey

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 9:12:44 AM)

Eventhough dc didn't guess, here's clue #2: The ONLY other quartet which would give the same answer is:

Massachusetts
Delaware
Texas
Pennsylvania

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 9:23:33 AM)

Clue 2 anna half - quartet seems (to me at least) to be google-proof . That is, can't just type in either quartet and get the answer.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 1:09:23 PM)

I'm not giving clue #3 until somebody at least comes back and asks for it. LOL!
Where, oh where did you all go?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 1:28:32 PM)

Okay, can we please have clue three, Lance?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 1:30:14 PM)

Is it something to do with part of their boundary being on a line of latitude?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 1:36:40 PM)

Shoulda waited for clue three, dc. LOL!  But, no it's not about boundary on latitude.  It does have to do with boundaries, I'll give you that,

Clue #3 was going to be:  This has to do with US geography.  Get out some maps.  (That's different than clue # 1, now, isn't it?)

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 8:19:55 PM)

Where are y'all?
Clue #4 : NOT boundaries as such...... look at the border states.

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/3/2009 10:18:02 PM)

I'm too tired to go fishing for whatever you're thinking.

But they all have off-shore wind projects, which while isn't what your clues indicate, is pretty cool.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:18:25 AM)

MM: Yes, that IS super cool.  Who woulda thunk it?

ALL: When a neighbor was here, I asked him to look at this game.  We started at the Hayward quartet so that he got the feel of it.  Skipped Acer's comments, and I was silent from the start of this quartet.  When he got to "look at the border states," he grabbed the US atlas and after a few moments study, he gave the answer and said, "They're gonna KILL you."  I agree, y'all are gonna kill me. LOL!

Hanable -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 8:25:27 AM)

they all border bodies of water?

H >:)

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 8:56:53 AM)

Hanable: That was guessed on post # 5137 and my response was that there's only one other quartet that gives the same answer.  (See post #5142.) Even though dcnovice repeated the quartet at the top of this page, this quartet goes further back.  OOOooooo..... they are gonna kill me.  I just know it. (And that is NOT a clue. LOL!)

Sorry, I won't/can't be back until later this afternoon.  C'ya then

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 5:39:42 PM)

Anybody gonna even try?

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 5:48:07 PM)

Hold your horses....i 'm doing research.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:11:58 PM)

It's really almost too simple for "research."  Look at the border states of the states in the quartet(s).

Y'all are gonna kill me.  Probably fluffypet will lead the charge.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:15:09 PM)

Well, i thought it might be states that bounded many others, but there are states which touch more states South Dakota touches 6 other states.

Then i thought it might be states which had bodies of water or rivers defining their boundries.  But other states also touch water.

Massachusetts touches - New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island
New Jersey touches - Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware
Delaware touches - Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey
Texas touches - New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana

(Pennsylvania touches - New York, New Jersey, Ohio, West Virgina, Maryland, and Delaware.)

Lance, i'm stumped.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:17:01 PM)

Okay, fluff. Since you're on-line, you get first crack at (the final) clue #5

Simply look at the NAMES of the border states.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:17:43 PM)

They all touch states with "New" as part of their names?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:20:42 PM)

dc sneaks in and grabs the win...... wait, I thought that was some other game. LOL!

Specifically the quartet are states directly to the south of the only four states that are New Something states.

Mass. is directly South of New Hampshire
Del. is directly South of New Jersey
Texas is directly South of New Mexico (hence the US geography clue.)
N.J is directly South of New York (Penn is also directly South of New York)

They're gonna kill me, I just know it.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/4/2009 6:32:12 PM)

Well, you learn something new every time.
i'm beginning to learn that Lance's mind is not just kinky, it's devious and diabolical, too.
