Well done, SP! Your turn to post. [:)]

I am gonna follow this thread more often. You mean there WAS a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier??? Never head of it. So I learned something new.

Earpe brothers?

SweetPoosy -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 8:32:38 PM)

Damn Panda, That was fast!

They were all indeed Wyatt Earp's brothers. I will make the next one harder...

Bwah-hah-hah-hah!

Your turn!

Virgil and Morgan were the only two I recognized, but I knew he had at least 4 other brothers, so I took a guess based on the improbability that the two names I did know were not on the list by coincidence. It was a damned good list, and I just took a shot in the dark and got lucky. That's all.

OK then.

Copper
Silver
Palladium
Nickel

Ductile metals

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 9:41:02 PM)

Hmmm... actually, they all are, aren't they? But that's not quite the link I'm looking for. Although their ductility does make them much more suitable for this purpose than many other metals.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 9:42:26 PM)

coins?

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 9:45:06 PM)

No, ma'am. Good guess, but I'm not sure palladium is used in any coins. Not as a primary metal, at any rate.

DarkSteven -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 9:47:03 PM)

Electrical conductors?

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 9:56:28 PM)

No, Steven, I'm afraid that's not it either.

Metals you find in a garden store?

i think i am tired and need some rest. i'll check back tomorrow.

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/1/2009 11:04:27 PM)

Panda,

There's just not enough exclusivity among this quartet to solve the puzzle. They have dozens of things in common--all transition elements, all ductile metals, all excellent conductors of heat and electricity, all common in alloys (including with each other), in plating, in common appliances--we're left with guessing what you're thinking.

DarkSteven -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/2/2009 5:47:26 AM)

MM, I think that palladium is the key.  The other three elements are cheap and in common use, while palladium is expensive and exotic.

Metals used in plating?

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (8/2/2009 6:20:46 AM)

I don't know, Steven.

They're even all used in musical instruments (generally as alloys).

Alloys? Yes, they are, actually. But not only in musical instruments.
