shivermetimbers -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/18/2008 6:43:21 PM)

I sent someone the answer.  Sorry I didn't come back, no one was guessing when I had checked.

Before that person comes in, I'll give you all a hint.  L  C  Z  R  all stand for something, each letter.  The letters have no meaning combined, they are not an acronym.  Another hint.....your car antenna uses the properties of each.

pissthirstysub -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/18/2008 7:26:18 PM)

are they units of measurement?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/18/2008 7:46:39 PM)

We have two unsloved quartets.

QUARTET 1:

L
C
Z
R

QUARTET 2:

The Sign Of Four
A Study In Scarlett
The Red Headed League
A Scandal In Bohemia

shivermetimbers -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/18/2008 7:46:52 PM)

They can be, depending on how they are referenced, but still that doesn't explain in what way they are related.

They're all Sherlock Holmes stories. We you looking for something more specific than that?

no, your turn

Okay, this is an attempt at a game based on when my cousin used the Beatles to teach me set theory.

Here's how it works:

(1) Person A lists four things that have a common thread (John, Paul, George, Ringo)

(2) Person B identifies the common theme (musicians who belonged to the Beatles), then lists four new things.

Might work; might not. But hey, let's give it a try.

First set:

April
June
September
November

Having seen the Beatles in 1964 in Seattle (and having been barely 5, taken by my brother), and knowing even then that this was a life changing event...I can honestly say....

Your question / post is remarkably stupid.

Excuse me...my error...allow me to rephrase.....

Beyond stupid.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/19/2008 7:46:29 PM)

Thanks for sharing, Gris.

Given that the game's now on its 108th page, I'm guessing at least some folks enjoy it.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/19/2008 7:53:09 PM)

NEW QUARTET:

A Murder Is Announced
The Murder at the Vicarage
4:50 From Paddington
Nemesis

What do these Agatha Christie novels have in common?

Gris,

What the heck?  If you don't like the game, you don't have to play.  I don't understand why you would post something like this.  Seems a bit out of character.

LATEST QUARTET:

A Murder Is Announced
The Murder at the Vicarage

What do these Agatha Christie novels have in common?

Aylee -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/20/2008 7:11:59 AM)

They all have Miss Marple in them?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/20/2008 9:18:00 AM)

You got it. Your turn to post, Aylee.

Wow, I never found mention of hautbois as a fruit.  Nice combination.

L
C
Z
R

R= resistence
Z= Impedance
C= Currant
The letters have to do with electricity. Also, they can be measured in Ohms. At least I think so, I couldn't understand what L really stood for.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/21/2008 5:26:35 PM)

PTS ---

Shiver cmailed me the answer, and you've basically got it. He said L= Inductance, C= Capacitance, Z=Impedance, and R= Resistance. The letters are, he said, symbols for various electronics terms.

Your turn to post if you'd like.

Cheers,

DC

pissthirstysub -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/21/2008 6:13:53 PM)

That was a great quartet, nice and difficult! Thanks Shiver.
Sister Steve
Sister Benedict
Sister Helen Prejean
Sister Mary Leo
What do these nuns have in common?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/22/2008 7:36:46 PM)

Nuns in movies?

pissthirstysub -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/22/2008 7:38:13 PM)

Sister Steve was not in movies. I don't think...
But, it is pretty close I was just going with fictional nuns

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/22/2008 7:42:14 PM)

Who was Sister Steve?

pissthirstysub -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (7/22/2008 7:43:56 PM)
