The Holidays are always so busy for many of us. Too many things to do and too little time to do them. So we often find ourselves juggling a bunch of stuff at once or rushing through each thing to get it all done. This sometimes leads to some....mishaps!

Today, I tripped on the dog and spilled an entire bowl of un-set strawberry Jello w/crushed strawberries that I was preparing as part of a dessert on the beige carpet. Well, this took an hour out of my already way too busy day! What a mess!!!

What are some of your Holiday mishaps?

oh my!!! how did you get the color out of the carpet?

Only problem I had  was the turkey never defrosted, I kept trying the fill up the bathtub and try to defrost it that way, but I guess because of all the cleaning, the laundry, and a toilet that decided to run all night the previous night, now the multiple fills of water to fill up the tub a few times. I guess I ran my well too low on water and everything is coming out brown. Of course that started making the refrigerator make a new color ice cubes later in the day. Little unmentionables running up to me asking, "Are these supposed to be chocolate ice? They're not very dark for chocolate ice yanno", another says, "Oh, that's probably supposed to be like cola ice and you just hit this little button for the crushed ice." Me, "Uhhhh, stop boys, don't eat the ice, go get the bottled water, you're gonna learn to make ice the old fashioned way."

I hate it when that happens. Our power was off for about 24 hrs last week and we have a drip that must of run the tank dry, so when the power came back on the water was brown.

My only mishap this year was when moving the turkey from the roasting pan to the platter both wings fell off because they stuck to the edge of the pan when i lifted it.

The steam cleaner and Oxy Clean added to the solution. I had to go over it a bunch of times though. I just hope it doesn't 'reappear" as stains will sometimes do if you don't get them all the way through. I think that the thing that kind of saved me was that the strawberries were frozen so the Jello was thickening fast and kind of stayed on top of the carpet and didn't just soak right in.

We didn't have any mishaps thanks to my daddy dom catching my doggie about to steal a whole china plate of stuffing.  I didn't know he'd made an attempt till later and james is like oh by the way, I came out and sparky had his feet on the table nose heading straight for the stuffing, I laughed so hard only cause it didn't happen. if he had stole it my fathers foot prolly would of found his way to my dogs ass quite quickly. And sparkies chance of ever being welcome in the house* even though the food was on the closed porch* or ever being redeamed, because this is his fourth instance of food theivery, when before he's never theived before.

I managed to end up in the hospital on the 4th of July this year because I got asked to do dishes, including all the ones with nuts on them from some pecan dessert. I am allergic to tree nuts. Apparently, I can't even touch or smell pecans in the future. So I ended up with a Benedryl shot in the hip and a breathing treatment. Lovely way to spend a holiday.

Mistoferin, Good thing you had the steam cleaner. Those things really are worth the money. The other carpet cleaner I have that foams the carpet, I just don't see doing the job on something like that. I try to keep club soda around and put on the stains and then I used to suck it back out with the steamer, works pretty good too. I've either got to get a replacement part or buy another steamer. I'll have to try the oxi clean. Thanks for the tip

ooo I know how that can be. Since I have large dogs, I took the two I had, at the time, in for some training and they taught the dogs (and me ) how they're supposed to avoid food, except if it's actually in their bowl. They each have a special word in order to take it out of someones hand.  Now, when I get a new dog, they learn the routine so fast by following by example. Figured it would save me a lawsuit or two from my large dogs trying to snatch some goodie out of some unmentionables hand and the parent saying my dog was trying to eat the unmentionable. It's great, the dogs don't beg, or try for anything they're not supposed to have. Also saves them from bad food they might try to eat off the ground when outside that may cause them illness or death.

Last week I was making some pasta for dinner and as I was getting ready to pour the water into the strainer my grip on the pot slipped and it ended up spilling out all over one of my hands.  I didn't get feeling back into my fingers for two days and it's left a very bizarre looking purplish - red pattern all over the back of my hand.  That'll show me for trying to prepare dinner instead of ordering take out!

Bless your heart! (Yes, as a matter of fact I am from the South.)  You have my deepest sympathy.

I was fortunate this year to have nothing go wrong, especially since it was my first Thanksgiving to cook for My Lord.  I daresay my mistakes are waiting for Yule, when I'll have to cook for my in-laws.

There was the Thanksgiving where I ended up in the emergency room getting stitches because my father helpfully sharpened all the kitchen knives....

There was the cheesecake that I burned the top of....I carefully trimmed off the burned part, then artfully arranged mandarin oranges on the top in a lovely pattern...and promptly dropped it on the floor top side down.

No mishaps here beyond that of many days here.  Not enough sleep and not enough time in a day.  Many days...I start running a fever by around 6pm and if possible pass out for an hour or two before bed.
Fevers are becomming more and more commonplace with the less sleep I get.

Hopefully that will turn around quickly.

I admit, I'm a klutz. I've dropped enough things over the years that I can't keep track any longer. Gotta resort to keeping notes on this kinda stuff.

Note to self: Pies are like buttered toast when dropped...top side down

My worst? Trimming the bottom branches off the Christmas tree and almost taking my finger off too. Eighteen stiches later we called it the tree that bit back, lol.

Em.. we went out to dinner.

First i noticed that my "necklace" aka collar had the lock as a centerpiece when we were in an upscale resturants.  Heh.  All i could think was...oooooooo so not appropriate.

Then as i was completely full and ready for a nap and sorta fading out of it, i asked my Dom to hold my purse while i went to the bathroom.  GOD only knows why i said it and i didnt really "think" of saying it.. it just sorta popped out so everyone at the table could hear... "because you look really manly with a purse"

and honestly it didnt occur to me thats why he put my purse down nor did realise that i was like patting him on the back.. in almost a "dont be silly" way as i was leaving.  Took me until i was finished in the bathroom to realise what i had said.. I did laugh all the way back from the bathroom though and attempted an apology to my Dom.  He just brushed it the incident off.. but i'm soooooooo embarressed.

yeaaaaaaah.  "hold my purse please, because you look really manly with it"

wtf is that?

Since some one posted a 4th of July story, i'll post mine from the last 4th.  My mother bought these crazy firecrackers, that we found out is not okay to set off in my neighborhood.  They go UP in the sky (god knows where they'll land) .  So come the 4th we went to the city center and watched their show.  Afterwards.. my mom was like "this is a good spot!)  Which was like near a dock, a lake, a very small strip of park, and a busy intersection.  Hey everyone was leaving the city's show.. lots of back to back traffic.

So i dutifully got in a spot not too close to the road.  Unfortunetly the pavers were set up like little mountains and hills.. So! i set up a firecracker that goes up in the "hole" part thinking it would prevent it from going, left right, middle ect and make it go straight up.

Nu uh.. it flipped out in the hole.. and then went shooting right into traffic.  I dun think my heart has beat that hard in ages.  All i could think was "great - let it go in some ones open window in traffic and THEN go off"  oh shit!!!

Luckily it didnt and i eventually found it funny.  My mother was still recovering from it all and then a cop comes up.  "Are you the one setting firecrackers off into the street?"  Course i'm honest and own up to it and did my best to explain it was in good intentions and i wasnt some turkey teenager.  (i look young)  Luckily, my mother stepped in for me and took the blame for me.  She owned up to buying them and told the cop that she's legally responsible.  Awwwww.  Logical step though - )  I've a 5 year old, bad credibility, and a record of beating up cops.  My mother is an ex fed and a record of putting ppl in jail.  Logical.  (but nice)

Luckily the cop just stared at us like we were stupid and sent us on our way.  I dont think my mom will ever recover from the incident.

all i can say is "holy shit" "whew" and "ha ha" now

This brings us to one of those burning questions that has perplexed both simple and advanced minds for ages:

If toast always lands butter side down and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap the toast butter side up to the back of a cat and throw it out the window ?

T

PS. No cats were harmed in the composition of this post, but I do know of a couple that are real pests.
