damia -> Semi-formal party (11/22/2006 6:50:42 AM)

This doesn't have to do with the lifestyle, really, but rather fitting into a vanilla party. Master wants to take me to an on-base semi-formal Christmas party. He'll be wearing His formal uniform, and has suggested i wear a cocktail dress. So, now i need to figure out what would be best for me, as i've never worn a cocktail dress before...

i am pretty much an hourglass figure, with a little extra hip that i got from my mom's side of the family: bust-32, waist-28, hips-38. i wear 32DD bras, and can -not- got without support, especially with formal wear, because i look droopy. *sigh* i have been told i have nice legs, but i don't particularly like them...i'll wear pantyhose, because my legs are so freaking white. my skin is very pale, tending towards yellow (i can never wear yellow right next to my skin, because then i look yellow), and i have medium brown hair that needs to be re-dyed a red-brown (will be done before the party) So i'm wondering, what style (and colour?) would be the best for me, and where can i find a decent priced cocktail dress for the first weekend of December (yes, an early Christmas party, because a lot of the soldiers leave base a few weeks after that to be with their families, and there wasn't another good weekend before that).

i'm not looking for comments on my body, and no, i do not have pictures to share. i'm just looking for ideas of the right style and perhaps the right colour scheme, too. Thanks for any help that can be provided!

We're fairly similar in size....I find a princess line dress is very flattering.  I like to stay away from plunging necklines myself, I prefer eye contact..lol!  But, a higher neckline with a lower back can be very sexy.  Try lovefifi.com for the right undergarment....some reasonably priced corsets with low backs.  I wouldn't go too short with the hemline....to the knee or an inch or two above.....and ya can't go wrong with the little black dress!

:) Oh you'll have a blast. Most cocktail dresses are made for hour glass figures that let you wear a bra. I would just take one day and go to the mall, and check every store. Many will have something formal since it is the one time of the year everyone needs something shiny. If your Master is in the military, you might want to invest is something you can wear for other cocktail parties. I always had two cocktail dresses when i was married in the military. The basic black one was always a staple since you can accessorize and make a diffrent outfit each time, and basic black never ment plain jane style.

You will never go wrong with the standard "little black dress". Winter white might also work. I have red/brown hair and very white skin (think Irish) and the other colors that most flatter me are emerald/hunter greens, purples and vibrant blue based reds. I would avoid pastels.

Thank you! Extremely helpful advice. my Master and i have plans to go shopping this weekend when i'm down at His place, and we'll be looking at dresses together, but i definitely wanted to know what i should be looking for before going, because...well, i know how men can be, they don't always like to shop for long unless it's something they are really interested in.

What is Winter White? Master has some little white flats that He says i should wear if we can find the right dress to go with them. They're simple ballet-ish flats with small bows on the front. Would these look good with a cocktail dress, or should i stick with my black straps? Oh, and isn't the princess line the ones that have a high waistline? i can't wear those because the "waist" always lands straight across my bust. Wish i had kept my low-back bra that i had bought for prom three years ago...never thought i'd have a reason to wear it again, though. Ah well :) i think i'll definitely be looking for a higher neckline, lower back, and get a new backless bra...maybe a dress with a keyhole? i'm sure Master would appreciate that; he loves cleavage.

Again, thanks for all the great advice; i definitely have something to work with now!

Wear something long (at least tea-length since it is semi-formal but preferably longer) and sleeveless. It will show of your sexy hourglass shape and you can still find bras and / or bra inserts that will keep your boobs perky enough. Sashay that stuff, Girl!

You really can't go wrong with the classic "little black dress" or LBD. To make it formal, add really nice jewerly like pearls or precious jems. To make it more holiday-like, add a wrap and shoes in red. Go to a place, like a nice department store, and let the people who work there help. If you go and buy a prom-like dress, you'll likely only wear it once. So, go ahead and spend the money for the LBD you REALLY like. By adding the right accessories, you can wear it over and over and over.

Balletish type shoes? Ummmm...no..not with a cocktail dress.
Black dress...black heels.

Can't help but wonder how tall your master is, for wanting/suggesting you wear balletish type shoes.

I don't know...i keep finding Doms who like dressing me more then i do myself. Which is hard to believe, since i love making myself beautiful. LOL The Master might just love it, since it means he gets to pick what he wants on his pet.

What is Winter White?

Winter white is an off white. There used to be a fashion etiquette that said that you should not wear white after Labor Day and not again until Easter.  So the creamy off white was dubbed "winter white". No one really follows it much anymore though.

I personally hold the "white rule" in full effect and am definitely still appalled to see it broken when it is.

But I agree on the LBD- if it's your first time, start simple and basic.  Over time you can develop your own style and find what level suits you best.
