Okay, what about taking the top 6 teams, and making a playoff? Take the three arguably largest bowl games (Rose, Orange, and Fiesta), and do this:
Use the rankings from the AP poll (pretending the season ends as it stands now);
#3 Florida plays #6 Notre Dame
#4 USC plays #5 Arkansas
before the bowl season starts. Call it Survival Saturday, or Road To Glory, whatever [8|].
Lets say Florida and USC wins their games.
Go into the bowl season with:
Rose Bowl - #1 Ohio St vs #4 USC
Orange Bowl - #2 Michigan St vs #3 Florida
The two winners to meet the following week in the Fiesta Bowl to decide, on the field, who is the National Champion.
