Status: offline 		Dear Ladies and Gentlemen;
 
This is my first initiated post on CollarMe forums.   So excuse any mistakes I've made setting this up.
 
My intent though, is thinking and remembering--most of all Thanking the Veterans of the US Military.  They gave their 'today's for all of our 'tomorrows.'
 
Veterans of present and of the past, could never do alone, without home support from friends and family.  There are no holidays for them and or days of remembering. 
 
The Veterans of the Great War (World War I) numbers have dwindled from many thousands to a double digit number.  Most 100+ years old.
Veterans of the Greatest Generation, (World War II) are dying off as well.  All the veterans from the past and those during our life time are rather humble about their services.  But, I know when I thank a gentleman or lady who wear symbols of military service, they stand up a little taller and a little bit brighter, as somebody 'remembers.'
 
Seeing the range of ages on CM, we either have parents that served or served ourselves.  We do remember.  We must remember.
How we treat our veterans today will be an example how to treat veterans tomorrow and or in the future.
 
I also want to thank those who are on here but, not of US Military, but have served their individual Nation/Country.  Your service is no less important.  So, though it is an American holiday--all wars engage more than ourselves.  And, I think it is only fitting to give a special thank you to our Veterans and Veterans around the globe.

I would also like to point out tthat, at least in my opinion, you don't have to be a soldier to be a veteran.  I point to those who fought back on Flight 93 on 9/11 as evidence.  They may not have worn the uniform but fought and paid the ultimate none the less.

Last year here we had a Medal of Honor Recipient address one of the many Veterans gatherings, Capt John Mc Ginty USMC Vietnam.
One of the things that the guys overseas find most useful are prepaid calling cards and coffee.

Indeed true...
 
Everybody who has given their lives, for the sake of others and country, from the "Minute Men" and those from Colonial times, Native American Indians, scouts, women, children also; to the present time have risen to give their all then for our nows.

Status: offline 		Very nice initial posting, Lady Hugs. Our vets are well worth thanking and remembering. Just yesterday I put up a link to http://www.yellowribbonsupportcenter.com (tips the hat to Mr. Thorns for the inspiration) on my webpage along with a thank you to all who serve or have served. Also, those who wait at home for their service husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons and daughters deserve our thanks as well.

I found an image that speaks exactly to my thoughts.

I am fine with bashing of the ones who cause/create/initiate war, but I have a serious problem with those who don't respect those who put themselves in harms way, with the intent to do their part to preserve freedom. Tip of the hat to Vets of all ages.

Status: offline 		Lady Hugs, Thanks for posting this in time for Veterans Day. I thank all of you who are on here who have served or are still serving with all of my heart. I hope our troops come home soon & also that they know that whether or not I believe in the war I believe in them.
 
Today is also the 231st birthday of the Marine Corps too!

Hello A/all,

I ran in to a couple of Marines (I think) in the store a few months ago.  They were talking about having a big party because they were shipping out to Iraq the next day.  They were buying a lot of beer, but had trouble at the cash register because their paychecks had not been deposited yet.

I asked the clerk to put it on my bill.

They said they didnt know how they could thank me, and I said the only thanks I wanted was for them all to come home safe.

Stand Downs are held all year long all over the place. I enjoy volunteering to serve those who have served our country. It is the least I can do.

Status: offline 		As we think of our veterans tommorrow, think of getting their Christmas Presents ready early and get them in the mail so that they get there on time.   It doesn't make any difference what it is, it will be appreciated.

Seems like you have had the same experiences I have.  I'm sure a lot of us have paid off another's tab, when they didn't have enough money.
 
I know first hand, that military pay is awful.  Food stamps are not a good sign for the military family period but, that is what these military families have had to contend with.
 
The support for military active and inactive after coming home was a great source of concern for  General Omar Bradley (WWII) and still continues today. 
 
Its wonderful seeing a young lad or lass in uniform fumbling for funds, and see a bunch of people handing over a lot of financial aid then and there.
 
For all what is wrong with the USA and Americans; we're a good lot of people indeed.
