ORIGINAL: PlayfulOne Did you see how defeated and humble Bush looked during his press conference. The fact the WhiteHouse didn't see this coming shows how disconnected they are from the country. Seems now rather than "screw anyone who doesn't agree with me" his tone was "We all have to work together" K Playfull, too bad for Bush or any politician who doesn't listen to the People! Nice how the congress gave themselves a nice raise but wouldn't raise the minimum wage rate! They need to raise it to a realistic rate like $15 per hour which is not a lot of money these days. Five dollars fifteen cents is minimum wage? I was making $5.25 per hour in 1974 for loading and unloading trucks. That sounds so simple, but it's not. If you raise the minimum wage for some, then you lower it for others - namely to $0.00 per hour because fast food and other jobs like that would have to get rid of employees. Some businesses on the verge of bankruptcy would have to close (making all their employee's minimum wage $0.00) When you raise the cost of labor, you have to offset that increased cost somewhere else - so prices go up making it more expensive to buy items made here in the U.S., so people buy foreign products which puts a crimp on the businesses that have to cut costs (usually labor) or go out of business. So, this simple solution gets very complicated and the action you intended may happen, but all kinds of unintended actions happen as well and then your "solution" to one problem creates a multitude of other problems. There are no simple answers to the problems that face our country. I always say if there seems to be a simple solution to the problem then the implications of that problem must not have been clearly defined. Raising the minimum wage sounds good, but trace the impacts of that path and see what else needs to be considered first.
