Amid all the congratulations and recriminations about the election yesterday, I have a few thoughts I'd like to share.

Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats share my beliefs totally, so it's difficult at times to root for one over the other.

However, one of the things that I've learned is that it's never as bad as we fear, nor as good as we hope when either party gains power.

If you are a Democrat, enjoy your new Congress, for now, but just remember the Marxist dialectical.  The win of the Democrats is in reaction to the failures of the Republicans.  Hubris was the main one.

Soon enough, the failures of the Democrats may cause a counter-reaction as well, and return many Republicans to office.

It could even be that, if the Democrats get caught up in a belief that they have a "mandate", and go overboard, then their very win yesterday could be the reason for the return of a solidly Republican Congress in two years, along with a continuing loss of the Executive.

It seems that neither side understands what "moderation" or "non-partisan" means.

All I can say is that the system seems to be working about like the founders intended, mostly.

Poorly, that is.

Yes I was extremely disappointed by the lack of strong reaction from the Dems- they didn't take advantage nearly as much as they could have.

However, I understand how easily it could have swayed the other way with the Dems looking like they were kicking people when they were down and garnered sympathy for the other side.

As my partner and I discussed today- it will just make things go slower than they already do in politics, but it might be a harbinger of change in the next two years.
