To Whom It May Concern:I’m seeking legal advice for a friend. He lives in a small, rural , mid-western community in Iowa. It’s a very conservative area that BDSM is not something well known/acceptable. He has had a consensual partner that has turned against him. The law enforcement has confiscated his computers (including all IM’s, text messages, etc.), cell phones, and other electronic devices. He was arrested for harassment and extortion. Is there any legal assistance for his situation in this area? He currently has a good lawyer, but he knows nothing about BDSM. He is looking at a possible 10-year sentence. I could use any help possible thank you for your time.

I've been in the lifestyle a very long time. Done research the entire time. I have never heard of a case such as this. It sounds as though he broke the law. Not merely living in a power exchange relationship either. Harassement and extortion is what got his stuff confiscated it wasn't the lifestyle. He needs an attorney to focus on his wrong doings. Unfortunately I know of no attorneys in Iowa yet who would help him.

just an aside and prolly none of my business but from this post and your profile i get the feeling you two are more then friends... this guy was arrested for extortion and harassment...i am all for giving him the benefit of the doubt, but cops dont confiscate belongings and arrest folks for no reason. i have just heard of so many women that only get one side of the story, then find out latter the guy was a cad... be careful petitechicklette. as i always say "trust in Allah but tie your camel" it means do your due diligence and research both sides of the story. best of luck... rover: mahalo for the heads up.

What part of Iowa are you in? As previously stated, the actions that law enforcement has taken leads me to believe there is more to this story than some spankings. Harrassment and extortion are probably not what I would expect for charges related to BDSM. As crouching said, keep a close eye on your camel. I have always said the truth generally lies somewhere in the middle of the two stories. Very rarely is one person 100% correct and the other 100% full of shit.
