The Russians have declared this verdict as no more than a move by Republicans for votes...Are there really no Dems who wonder why the Russians would prefer a DEmocrat be elected?

Smart guys, those Russians. Sometimes I am so naïve. Of course that is why Saddam was convicted before the elections in the USA. I am a blithering old fool for not having realized that myself.

The rest of the world I'd suggest, would prefer a Democrat president and legislature over what you have now. Naturally we all have devious and cunning motives behind that preference - such as having some sense come out of the one country in the world that influences every other.

Lemme think now, it was the Republicans who forced the Soviet Union into collapse but I can't imagine them holding a grudge or anything like that.

Maybe they just appreciated Clinton handing the Bomb over to North Korea and getting Kim Jong Ill to quit pestering them.

sissifytoserve -> RE: The Russians have declared Saddams Verdict as no more than a PR move (11/5/2006 9:07:34 AM)

I dont care who it is. DEMoCRAP....OR RE PUG LICKan...if they voted for Bushie boys war agenda
or voted for Bush's anti-freedom police state legislation...Im definately voting them out.

sissifytoserve -> RE: The Russians have declared Saddams Verdict as no more than a PR move (11/5/2006 9:09:15 AM)

Baloney.

The Soviet Union collapsed on itself due to massive internal corruption.

The republicans had almost nothing to do with it.

Rumsfeld .....and others had much more to do with arming North Korea than anyone you care to name.

PJ O'Rourke said that if the CIA sent bothered to send an agent on a shopping trip to Moscow, within fifteen minutes he would have realized the Russians couldn't organize a shopping trip, never mind a war. The USSR was rotting away internally for decades and anyone who thinks Reagan had anything to do with it is delluded.

I doubt that the timing of the verdict has been timed but Saddam's trial was nothing but a show trial, he was never going to be found innocent and the whole world knows that. Just as the USA sees all things cynical in Russia, Russia sees all things cynical in the USA. That's the world we live in..

popeye1250 -> RE: The Russians have declared Saddams Verdict as no more than a PR move (11/5/2006 1:07:35 PM)

Does anyone in here really think that anyone is going to change their vote because of Saddam?

"Let's see, Democrat, Republican, Independant."
"Oh Shit! Saddam!!! I'll vote for the Republicans!"
"What am I thinking about voting for a Democrat or Independant?"

I imagine the rest of the world would rather not have an ignorant, illiterate, argumentative, obstreperous, dithering idiot, and his cabal of psychotic incompetents, in charge of the US Military which includes our first strike nuclear capabilities.

But this is just me, and I could be wrong.

You honestly believe that the leading party in the United States had anything at all to do with the Soviet Union going bankrupt trying to maintain a military force in a hostile country, along with funnelling all of the money they were borrowing into expanding their military in order to try to win the cold war?

Ok.  Gotcha.

I will be curious to hear your statements when the United States goes bankrupt trying to maintain a vastly over-extended military occupying force in a hostile foreign country, and there is nobody around to try to take credit for it.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Sinergy, and it's not just Iraq!
The last I heard we now have U.S. Troops in more than 130 countries!
I mean WTF!
How much longer do we have to guard S. Korea's border while our own border with Mexico is for all intents and purposes, wide open?

WyrdRich -> RE: The Russians have declared Saddams Verdict as no more than a PR move (11/5/2006 5:25:57 PM)

Yes Sinergy, I do believe Reagan had a great deal to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the best part is that he bluffed them into it.

One of the biggest reasons it worked, in my opinion, was that a Democrat led Congress sent a message that "this guy just might be crazy enough to do it, and we really can't stop him."  Compare that to the message sent by the left in recent years about whether the USA supports our leadership.

You can believe that all you want, but that is not what they teach in college level 20th century history courses...

You might want to check your watch Julia, it has been the 21st Century for several years now.

Liberal bias in academia is pretty well established.  You should have seen the look on one of my Prof's faces when I brought my brother, who entered Iraq on the second day of the invasion, to the second half of her lecture on the subject.

Synergy, sure, the rest of the world would ,I'm sure rather see some rich boob from Massachusetts be President who can't even tell a f...... JOKE properly without insulting the "uneducated" members of our military!
Only one little hitch there, the "rest of the world" doesn't get to vote on that litte matter.

WyrdRich, Touche!
Go easy on Julia, she's obviously not good with "numbers."
These days "college level" is like "high school level" 30 years ago.
Watch Jay Leno sometime when he does those "On the Street" interviews with "college" students.
"Can you spell "COLLEGE" for me?"
"C-o-o-l-e-d-g-e?"

I agree with the Russkis on this one....they are right, the whole "trial" is a mockery, to show the world that supposedly Iraq now operated under the rule of Law, and that the 'Iraqis' want this.....balloney.....Iraq is chaos, there is no rule of law, just on paper...same with its supposed "democracy" imposed by the Bush administration. Iraqis want to live in peace, with a government that guarantees them security from being killed by random militias, democracy for them could matter as much as what you will eat tomorrow for breakfast.
my two cents.

I think this belief in the USA of the Republicans that they were so instrumental in bringing down the USSR is the reason they felt walking into another country and and sorting it out to their satisfaction would be a doddle. Its the reason the Republicans were stupid enough to get the US army is bogged down in Iraq.

Everyone knew in the 70s that the USSR would collapse sooner or later which was one of the reasons W Germany used to give aid, they wanted a managed collapse and feared chaos. All this was long before Reagan and his so called bluffing. If he bluffed and it worked, it was because the USSR had new leaders that were realists and understood the USSR couldn't keep living with a huge deficit to fund its military.

An over extended military which is a drain on the national economy is one of the main reasons for the decline of great powers. Bush ought to take note before he decided to start any more wars.

....thing is Rich, the course on 21st century history would be pretty short.......the operative word in Julia's post was 'history'.
