Oops, I thought this was a thread about Bill Clinton.

A recent poll of Britons found more worried about W. then worried about Kim Jong-il.

I'd put a bet on that a poll across the European continent would produce the same result. I don't know how GW looks through American eyes but through European eyes he appears to ill educated, lacks complex thought, acts first and forgets to think later and his Texas cowboy act just freaks us. Him along with his Strausian disciples Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, along with Cheney are just too scary for words.

To me, Monkeyboy looks and acts exactly as you describe.

What pisses me off is this cretin represents the country I love.

Kim Jong Il will never attack the US. He's too much of a Hollywood freak. To paraphrase the movie Maximum Overdrive, 'it would be like a junkie trying to run over his connection'.

Oh for the good old days of Clinton when even if you disagreed with his policies, he was rational and played a complex game and you never got the impression he would go off on a jolly.

It's painful enough to listen to Bush speak here in the States.  But when he was in Russia and spoke with President Putin (remember, English is not his first language) just before the G8, Bush looked like an imbecile.  I was so embarrassed by how others must view us based on that speech.

Of course, there are innumerable other reasons to dislike Bush, as well.

Sinergy -> RE: The Great Divider (11/3/2006 4:22:17 PM)

I got my copy of Fortunate Son by J. H. Hatfield.

A book that Monkeyboy's administration tried to prevent from being published, was published in an independent press, and became a national bestseller.

Cant wait to read it...

Wasn't his idol, Ronald Reagan, known as the Great Uniter?  Could be the name Great Divider is a sarcastic reference as well as an appropriate one.

George W. has been called "The Great Divider", for his polarizing statements such as "If your against me you're for the terrorists." Is this the new state of America? Will politics ever move back to the middle again?

He's a preacher in a world of opposites....good, bad.......hell, heaven......the devil, god......Islam, Christianity........

We must tame evil, we must find the evil ones, we must laminate evil, we must wear evil around our necks at the backstage party in paradise.

"Onward Christian soldiers, marching onto war............"

peterk,

You know what the ironic thing is about this "war on terror", it dignifies the terrorists with the status of belligerents when in fact they are criminals. In Britain and Europe, we tend to see terrorism as a crime rather than a war and this has the advantage of portraying terrorists as completely anti-social rather than a competitor (in essence, a war is fought between two competing nations with equal moral status).

Well, initially, the reason was supposed to be that Iraq had WMDs. Since it became clear that Iraq disarmed around 1993 it has been rebranded as humanitarian intervention, the democratisation of Iraq and to avoid Iraq becoming a failed state.

Not many people seem to know what is going on so you can take it that, in the short term, real politics is dead.

Outside of Dumbfuckistan, people in the United States see terrorism as a tactic, as opposed to a set of people in a place that war could be declared against.

I would say that people who egregiously bomb the living crap out of innocent people and living things, whether it is with C4, airplanes, cruise missiles or whatever, and utilizing the tactic of terrorism to strike fear and terror into the hearts of the "enemy."

I am still waiting for the White House to announce that they are suspending elections until the War On Terror is over.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Seeing how its being fought by socially retarded fools who are too blinded by their own religious faith to see how much agony they are causing, then yeah, I'd say its being fought by two opponents with equal moral status.... none.

peter k, that is true. It is in the Guardian today and you know what, it is bang on. The North Korean president is concerned with saving his own regime and he will stay within his own borders. The US president is concerned with rampaging around certain parts of the world for the benefit of multi-nationals. So, you can see why the US Government is deemed to pose a greater threat than any other Government on this planet.

There hasn't been a recent poll in the US about Britons.

I myself, wonder how a country that has been around for thousands of years, and been a party to all the world's history, good and bad, could produce such a high percentage of people that seem unwilling to accept things for what they are.

The United States is just another power. We are no different than the last one, or the one before, and we will be no different than the next one. No better, and no worse. The only real difference is that for this short time in history, we have a military that is far in advance of our potential rivals. Other than that, we are pretty much an average, garden variety, super power ... we make the same stupid mistakes, and do the same good thing ... some on purpose, and some accidental, as all the rest. We have some good leaders, just like the last great powers, and some really crummy ones ... just like those other guys.

Like all the other powers before, the base of power is built on far more than a single leader, and a few bad ones aren't going to bring us down. Rome managed to last through Nero ... England through John Lackland ... The Ottomans through Memet II, and the Soviets through Uncle Joe. President Bush may very well be completely wrong, which time will certainly tell ... but right or wrong, the sun is still going to rise in the morning.

So, tilt at windmills if you must. You didn't do any better or any worse when you had your chance at the plate. You can accept that as what it is ... or just look none the wiser.

I agree with Winston.

Please feel free to name the world power that was any different. History is brutally honest.

Anyone really. My point is not that we are so great ... just that a power is, what it is.

Nefertari, that's true but it was nowhere near as embarrassing as when Bill Clinton was with Yeltsin on camera and for whatever reason started laughing hysterically like a hyena.
I mean what was the joke? Was Yeltsin drunk or what?
I was mortified!
I'm no Bush fan by any means either.

You need to read Jonathan Shell's FATE OF THE EARTH.

Your Nietzschian of there's nothing different today than before doesn't resonate very well with me.
