Dnomyar -> Same threads (11/1/2006 6:53:03 AM)

Some people complain about reading the same threads over  again. Some people are new on here and dont know that there are threads posted from years ago that say the same thing they are asking. Why should they be repriminded because they ask a question . A lot of us dont have time to dig back in the archives. If we have a question that we seeek an answer to at the moment then let us ask it. We don't need self imposed CM police jumping on us. Ok a question.  Is there a topic that has not been discussed on here?

They need to learn to use the search function.  It doesn't take that long and there is a ton of information there.

sub4hire -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 7:09:37 AM)

If you were new woud you want to use the search funtion?  Or would you rather have instant gratification?
Some of the people here who are now considered the wisest were the absolute worst when they joined.  If they used the search funtion they would learn all of that.

Also, after one year of nonactivity posts disappear.  Something we know is here may not be gone.
The answer is not always in a search.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 7:27:34 AM)

Actually very rarely do people complain about reading the same threads.  If anything is ever said, it's almost always in mild jesting.  We "all" understand that this is a forum with a constant influx f new people who often have the same questions and repetition is inevitable.  No point in complaining about that.

I hear a lot more complaining about people getting suck emails/NOT getting emails than I do about repetition of threads.

I have no problem and in fact enjoy finding and posting links to old threads.  I find no disrespect in it, and figure it's a service I can provide to others.  I understand newbies and even regulars have ideas they want to get out there and it doesn't really come on them to think to search, or they aren't very good at searching (my partner takes an hour to search for something that takes me less than 5 minutes to find)- so I give them resources they might not otherwise have found.

However I will say that the comment about "not having time" is insulting.  You have the time to form a new thread, and expect other people to give their time and attention to you to form a quality answer in response to your thread- so it's ok for US to spend time in response to YOUR thread which YOU want information on...but not ok for YOU to take some time and research beforehand?  That's lazy and disrespectful to your fellow posters IMO.

Oh dem links, dem well meaning helpful links

emdoub -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 7:32:20 AM)

I suspect it's a matter of personal preference.  For myself, I'd far rather engage in a conversation that I can participate in than read the history of a conversation on the same topic, no matter how great that earlier conversation was.

I'm not here to get information - I'm here to enjoy the process of exchanging information.

Well, that and the flirts....

I am new on this board and I personally use the search first... must be some inherent independant streak ;)

but IMHO it is ALWAYS the best place to start

I agree with this very much. I like how it is worded by the moderators in their guidelines. They basically state that try not to start a similar thread that has been done recently. I do use the search function when I am looking for something in particular usually something quite specific, but other then that I prefer the board as a living and active thing and enjoy reading the thread as the evolve and not like some historical archive. Full of hijacks and insider language.

I have been reading this board off and on for years and by far I think people are more understanding of the repetitiveness of the nature of threads that is inevitable if people really think about it. I will be honest one of the main things that has driven me from reading this board in the past and a few others was the attitude of a small number but not a few of the regular contributers who had a problem not judging the board based on the newness of the subject and if they liked a particular thread or not. To be honest I have seen a lot of snarky comments when a topic was brought up again and it seemed too many of the regular contributers felt the need to voice their unhappiness about it and seem to feel they had to participate in the same type of thread again. I really have not seen very much of this currently and I am very happy about that.

I do enjoy when others post previous threads on topics I find very interesting but I still overall prefer a live thread that is interactive and repetitive over research. Most people are here to be a part of something and not just looking for information.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 8:05:22 AM)

Yes, I've never seen a discussion about homosexuals on Mars.

Wait till the first people land on Mars. After a year of space travel together they may well be homosexuals. I don't think that anyone forces you to participate in these threads. So be insulted. I do this while im working and I dont have time to shift thru a bunch of old post. It is possible that there may be new people on here with a fresh prespective on things. If no one formed a new thread on here there would be no forum.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 8:56:19 AM)

I'll be insulted when there are multiple and redundant discussions of homosexuals on Mars.

mnottertail -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 9:01:29 AM)

Generel reply to aid in sublime contemplation of the weighty matters throughout these forums.

Ah, grasshopper;

If there is no one searching Mars for homosexuals, are they still redundant?

Find the center way..................

They get repremanded because people don't want to spend time talking about something which has already been talked about. Or because they think they're being clever by pointing out that that question has already been asked ironic because they probably think THEY are being original by pointing out how the same question was asked a long time ago.

As for the second part of your question I have no idea if an original question about BDSM is yet to be asked, but I'd doubt it-you only have to see how many links there are to one particular question to see that it's been asked several times.

Btw there are a lot of people on here, who in pointing you to links refering to the same question,are just being helpful. There is one particular slave who is a mine of useful info.

nephandi -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 9:11:49 AM)

i was reprimaned b Mod 11 becouse i used the serch function and relived and old read for my question and was tol to ask a new question istead of bringing back up old and forgotten treads so oviously you are suposed to make new treads instead of reopening old ones.

crouchingtigress -> RE: Same threads (11/1/2006 9:12:15 AM)

newbies questions are the life blood of these boards....this place would be dreadfully boring with out them.

in the spirit of threads that go on and on and on about labels, "Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome" has only been mentioned once in a thread, but not discussed here as it's own stand alone topic...it could be a fine addition to the plethora of threads here about labels for your libido or lack thereof, physiological disorders and the potentially resultant psychological disorders, how they can affect your dynamic, etc.  Just to piss off LaM we could start off with "Homosexuals from Mars, afflicted with PSAS are ruining the "community" with their incessant sexual arousal."[;)]

i guess what i'm still not getting is....if someone comes across a redundant thread and gets annoyed by it, why not just pass it by?  Is there something compelling someone to read a thread that might aggravate them....like voices...or OCD....or something?  Sheesh!  Really sounds like a personal problem that someone is trying to shove off on someone else.  [:-]
