Is it too early for Super Bowl predictions?

Dallas will play New England for all the marbles, but...... Denver could very easily be the one from the AFC if Jay Cutler does what many think he can. The Broncos have their best team in several years....

Don't be so hard on Rhodes. I am guessing he woke up one morning and realized: "Oh shit! I really am stuck with the Raider!" That'd make me go want to get stoned too.

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Former NFL player and Fox Sports broadcaster Bill Maas was charged with drug possession and weapons charges following a roadside safety check. The 45-year-old Maas and a passenger in his Hummer, Sarah J. Murphy, 27, were arrested late Friday by Illinois State Police. During the stop, police indicated Maas seemed nervous, and he agreed to a search of his vehicle.

Police found a .22-caliber revolver, 5 grams of suspected marijuana, 6 grams of suspected cocaine and 28 pills of Ecstasy. Maas and Murphy were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Maas was also booked on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

"We didn't recognize him until about 5 p.m. this afternoon," Trooper Tony Halsey told the Journal Star of Peoria on Saturday.

Halsey said he had no idea why Maas and Murphy, both residents of Lee's Summit, Mo., were in the area.
They were taken to the Tazewell County Jail in Illinois and will appear for a bond hearing Sunday before a county circuit court judge.

Maas was drafted from the University of Pittsburgh by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984, and was the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was a two-time All-Pro selection. He played with the Chiefs until 1992 and joined the Green Bay Packers the following year.

Maas joined Fox in 1996. From 1998-01, he served as studio anchor and game analyst for NFL games. Last season he reported games for the network.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders signed former Jacksonville safety Donovin Darius on Tuesday, bolstering a unit that was the strongest on the team during a difficult season last year.

The Raiders had the NFL's third-ranked overall defense and No. 1 ranked pass defense last year, despite finishing with an NFL-worst 2-14 record.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Colts coach Tony Dungy said some football fans may be surprised that his memoir "Quiet Strength," which hits stores Tuesday, goes beyond Super Bowl tales and delves into his Christian faith.

Dungy, who began a 10-day national tour Monday to promote the book, said he penned his 301-page memoir after initial reluctance once he realized it was a chance for him to let others know how his faith has helped him overcome personal tragedy and career setbacks.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The drunken-driving charge against Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was dropped Tuesday because a related DUI charge against his brother-in-law was reduced to reckless driving.

"It's good. I'm glad it's over," McNair said as he left the court room.

Yes, Pete. [:D]

Naw, I'm sure there's more. You guys are headed in the right direction, finally.

Getting Bentley back will certainly help the O-line, along with rookie Joe Thomas, and Eric Steinbach.

Despite being told he'd never play football again, Browns center and hometown favorite LeCharles Bentley said this week he'll try to make a comeback this season.

"I've been fortunate enough to have worked myself into a position to even think about playing football again," Bentley said in an exclusive interview with The Plain Dealer. "In spite of some major hurdles, I've been truly blessed all along the way to the point where I might possibly play this year."

Bentley, who will be in Berea for the first day of training camp July 27, revealed that he has undergone four surgeries over the past 11 months instead of the two that have been previously reported.

Bentley may help, but he will never be the player he once was. It's even a miracle that he's able to play. I think he will be solid, but no where near the dominant center you signed over a year ago. That Bentley will never be seen again.

The O-line finally has a strong side. Lewis isn't half the back he was, but he's better than Droughns. You finally have someone with the potential to be the best thing since Kozar hung them up. Winslow, Edwards, and Jurviceous should be good. All in all, the Browns have the makings of a very potent offence.

That defence is what needs help.

OO8OO88O8 -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (7/11/2007 8:00:25 AM)

I'm more worried about my own defense. (Steelers)

The Secondary is solid with Polamalu, MsFadden, and either Anthony Smith or Ryan Clark at the opposit safety. If Taylor goes back to his old form than it's even more of a bonus.

It's the front seven I'm worried about. Farrior is getting up there in years, Haggans and Foote aren't as good as people think. Timmons is a huge risk in my opinion. Hampton will be solid, but Smith is also getting up there and I'm not sold on Keisel.

I honestly think the offense will be fine. Putting up points wasn't the problem last year. Turnovers were, I think now that's Roethlisberger's back to 100%, that ends and he goes back to being efficiant. He still showed flashes of it last year when he torched Atlanta. My only concern is for that right side of the line. Starks is the biggest man on the team and the biggest wuss. Simmons has never lived up to his draft number.

I'm not a Brown's fan, but I sure am a fan of your coach.[;)]

Don't worry if you are the only Brown's fan, I think I am the only Pats fan.

BTW, pay no attention to that guy Level, he isn't a Dallas fan at all. He just likes to ogle the cheerleaders. He's not a twu fan, just a wannabe.

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts have signed defensive end Dwight Freeney to a long-term contract that will make him among the NFL’s most highly paid defensive players.

Freeney and the Colts agreed to a six-year, $72 million contract that includes a $30 million signing bonus, Freeney’s agent, Gary Wichard, said Friday. The Colts also issued a statement saying they had reached an agreement with Freeney, but did not elaborate.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Cornerback Asante Samuel and the New England Patriots failed to agree on a multiyear contract Monday, setting the stage for a possible holdout.
Samuel, coming off the best of his four seasons, can only play for the $7.79 million tender offer the Patriots made when they designated him as their franchise player. He skipped the team's mandatory minicamp last month and has said he intends to hold out until the 10th week of the regular season.

The club made no transactions on Monday, team spokesman Stacey James said. Samuel's agent, Alonzo Shavers, did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

The deadline for franchise players to reach a multiyear contract was Monday at 4 p.m. EDT. Now the two sides are not allowed to agree to one until after the season. Had the Patriots not placed the franchise tag on him, Samuel could have become an unrestricted free agent and they would not be compensated if he signed elsewhere.

Samuel, 26, tied Champ Bailey of Denver for the NFL regular-season lead with 10 interceptions last season. Samuel also has three interception returns for touchdowns in the playoffs, tying him with former Oakland Raider Willie Brown for the NFL record.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions re-signed defensive tackle Cory Redding to a multiyear deal on Monday.
The team put the franchise tag on Redding in February, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Redding emerged as a dominant player for the Lions last year when defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was out of the lineup. He had 37 tackles, including eight sacks, in his fourth season with the team after being drafted out of Texas in 2003.

NEW YORK (AP) - Kansas City defensive end Jared Allen has been suspended by the NFL for the first two games of the 2007 season following two DUI arrests.
Allen told the Kansas City Star last April that he had been suspended for four games. At that time, the NFL declined comment because the case was under appeal.
The league announced the two-game suspension on Monday.

The 25-year-old Allen, second on the Chiefs last season with 7 1/2 sacks, entered a diversion program in connection with the first charge and pleaded no contest to the second.

RICHMOND, Va. - A federal grand jury has indicted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick in an investigation into illegal dog fighting. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7033242 Bad News for Vick, good news for animal lovers.Didn't the Falcons trade their back up QB to the Texans this year? This could be a pretty big problem for Atlanta, cuz the new NFL sheriff ain't gonna like this one much.                              mbmbn
