Just catching up on the latest NFL news. I'm with Katy on the whole Trent Green thing. He's a big gamble, but they didn't give up much of a draft pick for him, so I guess it's worth it. Miami is scrambling this year and have missed quite a few opportunities, IMO. Most significantly not taking Brady Quinn in the draft. I still scratch my head on that one.

Randy Moss has been on the news most of this week, after camp interviews. he's talkng the talk, the jury is still out if he will walk the walk come September. But I am getting a little more comfortable with him.

I think the Pats "it's all about the team, not you as an individual" mentality may be the best thing that's happened to Randy Moss.

I agree about both Green and Moss. How long either lasts, though, remains to be seen.

MIAMI - Trent Green’s first practice with the Miami Dolphins was apparently Daunte Culpepper’s finale in South Florida.

Frustrated by the team’s decision to let him only participate in individual drills, Culpepper walked off the practice field — accompanied by a member of Miami’s security staff — about an hour into Friday’s start of a three-day minicamp and vowed that he’d block the Dolphins’ plans to trade him.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -What made linebacker Jon Beason so attractive to the Carolina Panthers on draft day was his versatility.

But learning two positions is tough - especially if you're a rookie.

"He's an instinctive guy and I think he's had some background at both outside backer and inside backer in his career,'' coach John Fox said. "As far as it relates to our system, we'll bring him along primarily at one spot, but kind of keep it an idea.''

ASK THE NFL EXPERTBy Don PiersonMSNBC contributor
Although the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears got to last year's Super Bowl without a big influx of free agent or traded newcomers, chances are good that somebody new will help this year's winners. It's how NFL business works these days.

The New England Patriots sure are counting on it, adding Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas and a bunch of veterans to a roster that was already 12-4 and ripe for another Super Bowl trip.

"ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is out with his 2008 big board of the top 25 NFL draft prospects (Insider), and Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm tops the list. It is, obviously, way too early to say with any degree of certainty what the top of next year's draft will look like, but Brohm seems to have solidified his spot at the top of all the draft boards.

Kiper, like nearly all draft analysts, limits himself to evaluating seniors, apparently bowing to the NFL's wishes that it not come across like it encourages players to leave college early. But he does list his Top 5 juniors by position (again, Insider), and it's interesting to note that Louisville's Hunter Cantwell is listed as the top junior quarterback. Could Louisville have the second-best quarterback in the country holding a clipboard?

As for the other quarterbacks in Kiper's top 25, Kiper ranks Kentucky's Andre Woodson the sixth-best senior prospect in the 2008 draft, and Michigan's Chad Henne 11th. Kiper's highest-ranked player from a non-BCS school is quarterback Colt Brennan of Hawaii. Brennan puts up big numbers, but scouts will question whether his numbers are a product of the June Jones system.

The important caveat: At this time last year, Brady Quinn was the No. 1 player on all the media draft boards. "

Drew Brees (one of the NFL's more precious players) makes an appearance at a jail.  I wonder if he'll give a motivation speech to Paris....

Their tops say "rise up", and they wear fishnets.  Do they really need to wear fishnets?  That is too funny.

Retirement befits Cowher
By David Elfin
June 8, 2007

Sixteen months after finally winning a Super Bowl and five months after retiring from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bill Cowher is a happy man.

Known for his intensity on the sideline during his 15 years in Pittsburgh, Cowher now says he's so content with his family in Raleigh, N.C., that he might not coach again.

"I'm very happy," Cowher told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I don't second-guess it at all. I guess it has reaffirmed more than anything, being down here. I still haven't experienced a whole season or August when training camp's going on. But I feel great."

When he's not spending time with his family or playing racquetball three times a week at 6:30 a.m., Cowher often is on a golf course. He said he's not bored or missing football.

"I have really enjoyed spending time with Kaye and Lindsay. It's been good, you know?" said Cowher, who will work for CBS this season. "I realized it was much needed after I got down here. I didn't know what it would entail, didn't know what you're going to do. I can honestly say it's gone much smoother than I anticipated."
He did, however, leave the door slightly open for a return to the league.

"I'm staying very open-minded," Cowher said. "I never want to say never because that can come back and haunt you. But I can foresee not coming back ever. I just won't etch it in stone."

That's good, because Cowher figures to have his choice of jobs come January.

If the Redskins don't rebound, coach Joe Gibbs could step aside at 67 with one year left on his contract. Speculation is that Browns coach Romeo Crennel and his New York Giants counterpart, Tom Coughlin, kept their jobs in part so their teams could join the Cowher hunt in 2008. And if Carolina doesn't make the playoffs, coach John Fox could be in trouble with Cowher just down the highway.

"Bill's still young," Steelers owner Dan Rooney said. "I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went back into coaching."

http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20070608-120131-1304r.htm

IRVING – Cowboys outside linebacker Greg Ellis, unhappy with his current status and unable to get a meeting with Jerry Jones to discuss it, wants to be traded, released or have his contract restructured.

Ellis said that Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager, had planned to meet with him, but changed his mind. Ellis said he was disappointed to learn of this through the media.

"I would like for him to make a move," Ellis said following the last of the organized team activities (OTA) Thursday. "Let me know and let [the media] know, 'Greg we do want you here.' With him saying, 'No we're not planning to sit down with Greg or his agent or anybody,' I think that pretty much sums it up."

He will coach again.  And for a ton more money than the Rooney's ever would've paid him.

Yes, but where, I wonder. It'd be weird to see him coach the Browns.....

Carolina, unless the Panthers do something outstanding this season.  He lives there, it makes sense.

Carolina makes sense except for the fact that they've got a pretty good coach. After the way Fox took them to a Super Bowl not too long ago I'd be surprised to see them dump him for Cowher.

It's early in the game so hard to predict what jobs would open up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see NY looking for a new coach after next season. Others will become clear next fall.

I agree with happy, Fox should be secure, and I think the Panthers are set for a good year.

The Giants is certainly a possibility, or how about another team known for its blue-collar, hard-nosed ways (like Pitt) -- Green Bay.

Re: BillCowher:

There are always rumors up here about BB's contract. It's a well guarded secret, salary, duration etc, so there is always speculation that this year *may* be the last year. I, for one, would happily take Cowher if BB retired. I like his work ethic.

Interesting article about the Dolphins passing on Quinn and the draft. Not often I hear players dissing the draft picks. It's a good read.

I'd love to see Cowher back on the sideline, and he'd fit like a glove in New England; but Belichek will be around awhile, says my magic 8 ball......*puts on swami hat*

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Donovan McNabb took a major step forward in his return from knee surgery, practicing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday several weeks ahead of schedule.

The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback participated in non-contact drills in his first action on the field since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last Nov. 19.

DETROIT (AP) -- A stripper is claiming she was inappropriately touched by Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.

Police and prosecutors are reviewing the claims, Maria Miller, spokeswoman for the Wayne County prosecutor's office, said Monday.

The complaint was made to authorities early Friday by the woman, who dances at a club on Detroit's west side. Police have submitted a criminal sexual conduct warrant request to the prosecutor's office, but Miller said charges were not expected to be filed Monday. The Detroit police sex crimes unit also was investigating the complaint.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Amobi Okoye is no longer a teenager.

The Houston Texans rookie turned 20 on Sunday, but is certain that hitting the milestone won't stop the teasing about his age he gets from teammates.

"The joke is always going to be there and I don't think it's ever going to change," he said. "It will probably be there until I have grandkids."

When the Texans drafted Okoye with the 10th pick overall he became the youngest player taken in the first round since the merger in 1967. But being the youngest among his peers isn't anything new to the defensive tackle after he started high school at 12 and college at 16

There's something funny about a stripper complaining of being touched inappropriately.  Isn't that how they earn tips?
