I spent a good bit of time in Wisconsin in the 90s and they have some real deserving fans that is for sure. Maybe it has something to do with the way team ownership works there.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, somebody needs to restructure Michael Vick's contract. I like Mike by the way. I think he is doing the best he can as a person as well as a player, but he is not going to be a player long if he keeps diving for yards when it is not necessary. That's where the contract comes in. They need to write that in: "No unnecessary diving."

Slide baby, slide!

Endivius -> RE: predictions (10/16/2011 11:05:56 PM)

His offensive line can't protect him, and he's taking too many hits even when he does get rid of the ball. He's a talented player, but he needs help. He can't do it alone. I don't think he needs any special clauses in his contract or special treatment from the management, his problem is literally his offensive line. He's a mobile QB with no where to go. The OC needs to make some serious adjustments to the OL and get those guys into shape. The pocket collapses far too quickly and he finds himself forced to run or dodging defenders instead of having the extra two seconds he needs to find a reciever. The productive QB's all have strong OLs that keep the pocket secure for 3-5 seconds giving thier QB time to go through all his check downs and make a decision. Vick has not had that consistently this season. Hopefully things change for him the next few weeks, he's getting mauled every week.

Endivius,

I agree with everything you said. Only, two more seconds would be gift from heaven. Seconds are long on that field, and I would be pleased if he got half a second to one second more on many plays. Also, you were right on when you said he hasn't had the protection consistently. Because in truth sometimes he has had it. But what I am getting at is when the pocket breaks down, and he needs say 5 yards, and he takes off successfully for twenty, the Eagles don't need him diving for an extra one or two or even half a yard. He is getting banged up hard at those moments and risking his head and neck. And naturally the defensive secondary are thrilled he is not going to slide. You dan see them thinking, "Yea Baby!" That has happened several times this season. And he has come up gimpy more than once. I would understand if it was for a TD or important first down. But in the middle of the game, when they are up and he just gained 20 yards, he needs to be ordered to slide. That is where the clause in his contract comes in. Of course I don't really expect them to re-write his contract, but remember how upset people in Pittsburgh got when Ben was riding around without his helmet and had his motorcycle accident? There is a reason, and I am sure you know this, why their employers say stuff in their contracts like, "No stupid stuff in the off-season."

The other gripe I have is the way he and McCoy (who I like a lot, and really fought hard in the first half yesterday; they all did) carry the ball when running. Sometimes I almost think they are baiting opposing players with the ball, holding it out two feet from their bodies. But then that is probably NFL wide these days. I am so pleased when I see someone running with the ball close to their bodies and covering it up with two hands and such when in traffic. I did see McCoy do a great switch of the ball from one hand to the other though the other day. Real pro move/execution. Forgive that little rant, but they have turned the ball over so many times, someone needs to stress protecting the proverbial rock. Especially when I hardly ever don't see a tackle these days where right at the end it is clear the defensive player was trying to rip the ball out.

Packers are 6 and 0. Soon to be 7 and 0 after dealing with the viqueens next weekend.

Endivius -> RE: predictions (10/17/2011 10:36:11 PM)

Yah Min is in shambles. They have too many problems on both sides of the ball. I want to see AP getting more touches, but when you watch some of the blocking on thier runs it's like flipping a coin. Either the blocking is the way it is supposed to be and he has a huge hole, or there is no fundamentals being followed and he's dancing around his own players trying to make something happen. Some credit could be placed on the defensive players, but this is a regular occurance in Min. Particularly the TE missing assignments or recievers not putting the effort forward to actually block. I get it that sometimes the D just picks the right play to stop the run, and you can allways tell when that is the case because you see huge penetration from several players breaking into the gaps, but that's not the problem Min consistently suffers from. It's a complete lack of focus and commitment. Every play on offense seems to be a gamble the last three weeks.

I was reading on Sports nation yesterday people were saying Romo choked against the Pats sunday, and how washed up he is. Fucking rediculous how quick the tide changes with fans week to week. As if that loss had anything to do with Romo's performance. He had more yards and same completion %, same attepts, with one less TD than Brady, but you don't hear anyone screaming about the 2 ints Brady threw that nearly lost them the game. And over in Detroit, people were actually blaming Stafford for that loss to the Niners. As if he can take on thier whole team. He was getting rushed constantly and he no answer. Apparently the OLC did not properly prepare for the SF pass rush. They certainly did some creative things to get some of those hurries, but you can allready see the 49'ers finally have something to be happy about out in SF. Hopefully they can keep the pace this season they haven't been able to hold thier heads high for a long time.

Now if only the Brown's could get something going in Cleveland....then the season would really be interesting.

The Jets looked terrible last night. They went the first half or so without being able to get a 1st down against Miami. Sanchez is awfull.

Endivius -> RE: predictions (10/19/2011 12:26:46 AM)

Miami had so many dropped passes last night. Might have been a somewhat competitive game if they could catch some fucking balls. Oh well, I wasn't expecting much from that matchup to begin with.

Sashareign -> RE: predictions (10/19/2011 11:56:24 AM)

Minnesota had so many pieces. Then they brought in Randy Moss. All they needed was their one wide receiver back from injury. What happened next was shocking. Childress so badly handled Moss, he ruined his team, destroyed his credibility in the locker room. Angered a whole lot of fans, and yes, got fired. A solid defense (sometimes dominating), three top notch wide receivers, Farve, and AP. I really wanted to see that. I know I wasn't alone. What happened next? Childress single handedly orchestrated one of the biggest team implosions ever.

I was so relieved when the rumors about him coming to Philadelphia didn't manifest.

On Miami, I thought the quarterback was doing alright, but as Endivus said, those receivers were not making catches. I think I saw 4-5 catches for over twenty yards that should have been. What bothered me was it seemed they weren't really trying that hard. You can tell when a guy fights for a catch. These guys were like high priced Ferraris who had just had the paint job buffed and didn't want to get dirty. Somebody needs to motivate them or the quarterback and the team have no chance.

Lastly, I just want to mention that I was happy for Harbaugh, not now. If these coaches can't even fake being gentlemen, they don't  belong at the dinner table. And did anyone else notice how brazen he was defending himself after the game Sunday? Funny, he didn't have quite the same position Monday.

Still, I too am happy for SF fans. I just wish Mike Singletary could have delivered.

The biggest mistake Childress made was signing Brett Favre.

Sashareign -> RE: predictions (10/19/2011 12:25:29 PM)

imho - It was about as big a mistake as the Packers signing him once upon a time. The guy could still play a good five years after others had written him off. I do feel bad for the Packer fans who had to put up with Brett's waffling. That said, they got their mileage out of him and Rogers got to apprentice like Steve Young did with Montana.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (10/27/2011 12:34:52 PM)

At this point in the season it truly is the Packers and everybody else....but it is a long year,the other teams have a lot of time in which to get their acts together.
This is the NFL which is truly a league split into two seasons...the regular season( where the Patriots once went 16-0) and the playoff season( where that same Patriot team went 2-1, in other words they lost their last game,IIRC the Giants won the Super Bowl that year [:D])I will hold off on the Panic meter till at least the last 4 games ,it is only than when you can determine what sort of shape your team is rounding into for the real season....playoff time baby( let's not forget how a critical injury or two can derail a season.....imagine Rodgers going down with a bad knee...right away Packer backers go into a depression)

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (10/30/2011 9:49:37 AM)

Folks baseball season is over,how do I know this ? Simple they handed out the trophy Friday night(St.Louis took it ,for those living in caves) So why do I have to do all the heavy lifting keeping this thread on the first page ?
Well I was never one to shirk responsibility,and being as I am from New York,a city so great we have 2 football teams ,here goes.The Jets are off this week and after enjoying the bye week last Sunday so are the Giants(they play the Dolphins today...the closest thing the NFL has to a paid vacation week....lol)
The Giants sit a top their division as play starts this week(and since they play the Dolphins this should remain the case) but will soon embark on an NFL version of the Baatan death march in the coming weeks(look at their schedule...it is a killer) Should they come thru the coming weeks still on top.....punch their ticket to the playoffs.
I will look at the Jets(my preseason pick to represent the AFC in the SB) prospects next week.....stay tuned [:)]

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (10/30/2011 10:18:36 AM)

A few minutes ago,prior to kickoff,I posted a somewhat whimsical post detailing the ineptitude of the Miami Dolphins vis a vis that they are playing the NY Giants....well on the opening drive Tom Coughlin,one of the more risk adverse coaches in the NFL exhibited the utter disdain the rest of the league has for those same Dolphins.Fourth and effectively 10 yards,in no man's land as far as field goal probability or punting net yardage gain.....went for it with a pass to the end zone.
Tom freaken Coughlin....went for a fourth and ten!!!!! When will Saprano(sp?) be fired...the rest of the league is laughing at you[:D]
