And its tied... 10 - 10 .... lol.. a good game!

tazzygirl -> RE: predictions (10/2/2011 3:21:40 PM)

Ben kept getting sacked. Texas should have won by a bigger lead.... they got a couple they need to calm down.

It was a good game though!

L&M is AWOL. Thought he might have posted some pregame thoughts on the JETS-RAVENS.

Flacco did look like Peyton Manning for one (1) QTR.

I don't know what to make of defensive teams in today's NFL. It doesn't seem that either the Ravens or JETS could keep up with the track meet that is GB or NE.

Tony Romo strikes me as a kind of Starlette Vinny Testeverde. He's exciting and he keeps both teams in the game.

PITT looks bound to miss the playoffs this year.

Was hoping to see OAK punch out NE. Didn't happen.

Can anyone explain Donovan McNABB and what's going on in MN? The whole thing makes Brett Farve look that much more incredible to me.

Rookie QB class looks like one of the best ever.

At the QTR mark NE and GB look like the SB favorites.

Playoff forecast:

SD (West), BAL (North) Texans (South), NE (East). Wild cards go to BUF and TN.

NYG (East), GB (North), NO (South), SF (West) Wild Cards: DET, & TB

Out: ATL, PHI, NYJ. PITT

Endivius -> RE: predictions (10/3/2011 12:34:16 AM)

I was impressed with the DET comeback against Dal. Apparently neither the jets or the ravens could find rythm on offense today, but boy did those defenses make it exciting to watch. Bal kinda shit all over sanchez today. They just had his number.

McNabb didn't make it in Wash. You had to know if he was cut there that his carreer was more or less over. Doesn't matter if he plays or retires next year, he's past his golden years.

servantforuse -> RE: predictions (10/3/2011 5:46:11 AM)

The Jets have a terrible offensive line. Sanchez took a beating. Thet're going nowhere.

cloudboy -> RE: predictions (10/3/2011 7:10:04 AM)

From the local media:

3. The Jets were fortunate to even be in this game at all. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and predict they don't make the playoffs this year, especially if they don't get back to running the ball.

I don't quite understand why the Jets think it's in their best interests to put the majority of their offense in the hands of Mark Sanchez, but it should be obvious he's not ready for that kind of burden. I'm starting to wonder if he ever will be.

I'll give him this: He's tough, he has a quick release, and he's had a few decent playoff games. (He's had a few awful games too, we should point out.) But his accuracy continues to be a problem. He sprays the ball all over the field, and he has been doing it for years. He also doesn't have a big enough arm to let him get away with some of the throws he makes. Sure, he looks great in a GQ spread with his shirt off, but if he wasn't a good-looking guy playing in the media capital of the world, I don't know that people would rave so much about his potential.

The Jets are like the Ravens in many respects. They both have offensive coordinators who want to mold a young quarterback into an elite passer, and so they've tried to throw the ball more to speed up that process. But both quarterbacks are clearly better players (at least right now) when they're asked to make plays within an offense that has a strong running game. It's a difficult balance to strike, but both teams might benefit from reeling in their coordinators a bit.

It's obviously fun to argue the merits of the NFL's young quarterbacks. We pick them apart every week, we group them into meaningless tiers, and we debate whether or not they'll ever be "elite" as if there is some invisible threshold they'll cross when everything they do from that point on will be perfect. If you turn on talk radio, sometimes that's all you hear. "Is Flacco a top 10 quarterback yet? Does Mark Sanchez have the most upside? Who would you rather have, Matt Ryan or Cam Newton or Josh Freeman or Matt Stafford?"

In the end, it's sort of meaningless. I think Flacco has the potential to be a lot better than Sanchez, even though both of them weren't any good Sunday. Trent Dilfer -- who I really, really like a lot as an analyst -- disagrees. That's OK, because neither one of us really knows the answer. It just has to play itself out.

YSG -> RE: predictions (10/4/2011 5:37:30 AM)

Browns lost.... this is what happens when you dont capitalize on early oppertunities. Colt McCoy threw 61 times, and completed 40 of em, so he's consistent. My fantasy team, however... I managed to trade Rob Granowski and the Steelers D for Adrian Peterson last night. Oh yeah, my team isnt gonna lose the rest of the year [:D]

NakisisaX -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/4/2011 9:40:11 AM)

I'm just happy my team is 4-0 and beat Dallas. I'm satisfied no matter the outcome of the season.

Al Davis died..A great team owner..

I am pretty happy that my Seahawks kicked NYGs ass, amazed really, though I fear Jacksons injury could be serious. Jackson was getting in a real rhythm this game for the first time this season and he was looking great IMHO, so its tragic that he got hurt

servantforuse -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/10/2011 4:23:55 AM)

Packers 25, Falcons 14. Green Bay remains unbeaten at 5 and 0...St. Louis makes its way to Lambeau Field next Sunday...GO PACK.

I know there arent too many Vick fans here.... but has his defense just given up?

Endivius -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/10/2011 8:43:03 AM)

I don't blame the defense, I blame the whole team, Vick included. He has an extremely talented team on both sides of the football and they simply aren't getting it done. It's the same thing with Dallas and Atlanta.

tazzygirl -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/10/2011 8:45:44 AM)

Perhaps I should have said his defensive linemen.

Sashareign -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/10/2011 9:07:49 AM)

Hi all,

My first post here in this thread. I was glad to see there was an NFL thread going. I live near Philadelphia but don't limit my appreciation to local teams only.

On Philadelphia though, I see the defense as the main issue. I believe they have the pieces. Just not put together well. We have disappeared in too many games against the run in the fourth quarter and I just don't see this new defensive scheme working for us. Yesterday was the worst. Did anyone see the play/highlight when the Bills Fitzpatrick just decided to run a quarterback sneak? It wasn't for a TD or to pick up six inches to get a first down, it was just too good an opportunity to pass up. There were literally no defensive players in front of him and his center. In the replay you don't see the whole field but there was not a green jersey to be seen on the line of scrimmage for a good two yards to his left or right. And certainly not in front of him. He didn't really get that far, but come on people. What were the Eagles doing, getting lunch? The defense doesn't need tweaking, it needs fixing. It is broken. That said, I really like what I have seen on D from a number of perspectives, but that, like Vick's records won't win games.

I hold the coaches 95% responsible for all of these lost games. I hope they get it fixed fast for the players and fans sake. They should be winning all of these games by two touchdowns.

I just want to cite one thing I read from Cloudboy further up this page:

quote:

Flacco did look like Peyton Manning for one (1) QTR.

I saw that and was thinking to myself, "What is going on here?"

Glad to join the thread, And hope everyone gets their monies worth from the NFL season this year. God knows they charge enough.

-Sasha

p.s.- and don't get me started on the Bills drawing us offsides for a first down with less than two minutes to go. My hats off to them though. They played four quarters of football and their fans deserve the win. I was a huge Marv Levy fan way back when. My kind of coach. Buffalo has waited a long time for this.

His defense didn't throw four interceptions yesterday.  Their offense coughed up the ball FIVE times yesterday.  When your team's turnover margin is -4, you shouldn't expect to win.

Sashareign -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/10/2011 9:29:02 AM)

Hi Stef,

Pleasure to make your acquaintance. If you don't mind as I am a Vick supporter, he didn't throw four interceptions any more than Joe Montana threw for a ga-jillion yards. Jerry Rice Ran for most of them. As I recall, at least one of Vick's pics was a great completion that was stripped. So he only threw for three according to my math. And that works out to only 48 interceptions per year. lol. That said he took a vicious hit while releasing one of the other three, and he shouldn't be blamed for that either.

No. Vick is the real deal, but he is getting banged up faster than a milk carton in trash compactor. And that should be even more of a concern than the Eagles' defense.

Your point is well made though. Going into the game the Bills had the best turnover ratio and the Eagles had the worst. I guess we didn't even really need to watch the game. Bradshaw picked the right team to win.

Oh, and nothing against Montana. He was magic. But too many stats are so inaccurate. Five yard throw and 95 yard run counts as 100 yards passing? Even quarterbacks roll their eyes over that one. As they pick up their bonus...

-Sasha
