Sanity -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/12/2008 7:03:41 AM)

I remember. Those were exciting times! And  I also remember, the Redskins were Seattle's arch enemy back then...

Jim Zorn has accepted the Redskins head coaching job.

No matter how they spin it, Snyder "settled" for Zorn, because Spagnola turned them down. [X(]

Remember when Zorn played? I know Sanity does..... hell of a QB, running everywhere, and firing the ball to Steve Largent.

I will admit to knowing nothing about the Redskins.  Is it considered a functional or dysfunctional organization?  Did Spagnoulo make a good decision and Zorn a bad one in this case?

They're extremely dysfunctional (which is sad, because that wasn't always the case). Spagnola made a great choice, as he will have his pick of jobs in another couple of years; Zorn is going to have to be a lackey for owner Daniel Snyder, and pray they win, or he'll get shitcanned.

The Zach Thomas sweepstakes are over.
The seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker, who was released by the Dolphins last week, has agreed to a deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Thomas flew to Indianapolis on Friday to meet with owner Jerry Jones and president Stephen Jones, who were there for the NFL combine.

The move is somewhat shocking in that, at one point, Thomas had considered canceling his meeting with the Cowboys after meeting earlier this week with the Patriots and Saints.    Thomas remains in Indianapolis with his new employers and could take a physical as early as Saturday.    Thomas' family members are lifelong Cowboys fans, and that may have played a part in the decision.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 12:11:03 PM)

I no longer have the NFL network.
::sob::
I'm missing the Combine.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 12:35:31 PM)

Did you do away with it?

xBullx -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 12:46:48 PM)

I read this on the website and I'm keep trying to discover the logic here. Thomas must be signing for peanuts or what's the logic in having him. The Cowboys cap room is limited and they need to sign Flo and get deals done with Hamlin and Barber to lock these guys up and create more cap room. With draft picks and a need or two in the free agent market I can't understand this signing. They have four middles on the roster already. Maybe Jerry and his kid are up to something that we don't know about.... Bill likes BIG linebackers, we have a surplus, ink Thomas as a backup and let the trading begin. Bye bye Bobbi?

Yep, we have plenty of LBs, so I'm thinking Jerry just was scratching his "big splashy signing" itch, like he often does lol. And Thomas may have signed for cheap, to get a shot at a SB with Dallas....

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 1:13:09 PM)

If they can get a ham sandwich for Carpenter, the team should consider it.

Thomas is great at picking up backs swinging out for passes, and we play in a division with Brian Westbrook and Clinton Portis. I wish I could take credit for this analysis, but my ex-college player foster dad was all excided about this signing. He seems to think it will address a serious weakness the Cowboys had last season.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 1:17:18 PM)

An aside: I saw a review of Darren McFadden this morn, said he has "spindly legs"...... [:D]...... Caitlyn we don't need no spindly legs on the 'Boys....

I liked Carpenter coming out of college, but he hasn't done as well as his buddy AJ Hawk has, at least yet. I'm a big Zach Thomas fan... he may give Dallas a high level LB for another year or two.

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 1:48:58 PM)

McFadden doesn't seem realistic, if the team hopes to sign Flozell, Canty and the Barbarian. I think JJ will be back, because he will not get that much play in free agency, with the other backs out there.

xBullx -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 2:06:36 PM)

Either JJ's back or we go after a kid like Jones from Ark. I think he'll be there in the second round. Barber is the deal, but he is best in the two back and that being the case we need a scat back. Micky said it best, the running game wasn't the problen last year. We need to address the WR and CB with those first two picks assuming that is a best player available match. I don't really see any need for top names in FA, we got those, if we get our own signed there's thirteen plus of them here.

McFadden seems like an unrealistic and not all that important pipe dream. I think they have to let Canty test the market and hope that they can afford to keep him, though I doubt it will happen. Fergs back next year, or so we would hope and with Spears, Rat, Tank and others it seems the D line is getting crowded, at least price wise.

I would like to see the league create a roster spot to develope young QB's. A spot specifically for that. Money for that and that alone. it seems to me that the competition level of the league would improve if we were able to develope more quarterbacks.

No, I didn't do away with it.  Suddenly it's not available.  I have Dish Network.

I wonder if this is the reason, Katy:

quote:

In a move that some analysts interpreted as an act of retaliation against the NFL for allowing both CBS and NBC to carry the NFL Network's coverage of the New England Patriots-New York Giants game at the end of last season, DISH Network said on Wednesday th at it has yanked the network from its "Top 100" package, the most popular of its subscriber packages, and had downgraded it to its "Top 200" package. The move leaves the NFL Network, which has been in a fight with cable TV operators to be included in basic-cable packages, with four million fewer potential viewers. A spokesman for the NFL said, "We are aware of Dish's unfortunate decision, which is not in the best interest of its many subscribers who are football fans."

It's a good year for CBs, so we should be able to snag one (Aqib Talib from Kansas, or Reggie Smith from Oklahoma), as well as some WR help (maybe Longhorn Limas Sweed).

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 2:20:36 PM)

Yep, that's probably the reason.  I have the cheapest version of Dish Network available (with an add-on for the local stations)

What about McFadden's running mate, Felix Jones? He's pretty explosive.

I'll bet Directv is happy to see DISH get tough with the NFL network, just as they were last fall when they had the Big Ten network and some big cable operators chose not to carry it.

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 2:35:12 PM)

Supposedly, that Stanbeck guy is as good an athlete as a younger TO, and has a serious work ethic.

If I was drafting for the Cowboys, I would use both first round picks on corners. Sixty percent of opponent's offense, centered around picking on Reeves, and if the team could get a starting right corner, the sticky covering, physical Henry would be a killer nickel back.

Receiver ... I wouldn't draft one. It seems like the easiest position to get in free agency, and you would think that when Glenn and TO retire, you could use their money to go after a good receiver or two.

I miss football season.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/23/2008 2:36:00 PM)

Yep, but all this makes me wonder how much longer the NFL network will carry on?
