Oww, yeah, things were rough those first few seasons! Remember who your first QB was? Steve Spurrier [:D]

But things got better; Doug Williams, Lee Roy Selmon, Hugh Green, came along.

Of course I remember Spurrier -- and he was also briefly and painfully the coach of the Redskins -- I thought the jinx had followed me to DC!

And I still have great love and respect for the Selmon Brothers (both Lee Roy and Dewey), as well as Doug Williams. Not to mention that Lee Roy Selmon got the ball rolling for USF to have a football team.

I actually did see Tomlin show some emotion today.  That was a relief as I was beginning to fear he has no affect.

I bet he doesn't call people "Irish kool aid drinkers"........

I didn't realize Selmon was so involved in the university; good on  him [;)] I see that he retired due to "health problems"; I hope he's okay.

It's interesting how Florida's smaller schools are stepping up; George O'Leary has Central Florida playing well, also.

Oh yeah..........
That's all everyone has/had been talking about (the USF game) and someone's 2 bosses had tickets to see it live & in person, WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Lucky them.  [:D]

Then the BUCS won yesterday, dang....  all in all a very good weekend (except for Cadillac [:(])!

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/1/2007 3:14:07 PM)

Yep, Cadillac is out for the year, as is tackle Luke Petitgout:

Coach Jon Gruden cringed at the thought of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing the rest of the season without running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams and tackle Luke Petitgout.
"You lose a lot of skill," Gruden said Monday after revealing both players will undergo season-ending knee surgery this week.

"Watching Philadelphia yesterday play without their left tackle and without their running back, it's not an easy thing to overcome," the coach added. "Experience and production at those positions is something an offense relies on."

And Philly better be glad they're not without Donavan McNabb, after the beating he took last night; he was sacked 12 times

Peyton and now this child must be disposed of.....We the chosen the sacred and the few of the green and gold illuminati...Have devoted our lives as the Knights of Favre to do what must be done to prevent "The Record" from falling into evil hands.......

We will be watching the development of this potential heir to the throne...Our people are in place to make sure that he joins the debate team....If he must play sports he will be steered towards round ball....It's complex and underhanded but all will mysteriously dissappear who threaten "The Record"....Of course if someone dares to exceed the number of interceptions thrown by precious....That might be tolerated.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Matt Leinart sat at a crowded table in a trendy steakhouse late Sunday night, sipping a glass of sauvignon blanc with a faraway look in his eyes. The young passer was frazzled and forlorn, and not just because of the atrocious synthesized music blaring in the background.

As a scrawny Owen Wilson lookalike warbled through a cover of Sugar Ray’s "Fly" a few feet away while Scottsdale's beautiful people mingled around him, the Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback in name only struggled to relish one of the franchise's more uplifting victories in recent memory.

Having given way to backup Kurt Warner for much of the Cards' 21-14 upset of the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, Leinart's day had been filled with bitterness, frustration and prideful defiance. Now, as he finished his meal at City Hall steakhouse, there was only detached bewilderment.

"I just want them to ride or die with me," Leinart said softly of 2-2 Arizona. "If I'm the franchise quarterback, play me and let me stumble, because I'll fight through it, and that will help me and our team in the long run. I know coaches want to win now, and I guess they have their reasons. But I don't understand it, and this switching back and forth is almost worse than getting benched."

In the next breath, Leinart went out of his way to praise Warner, his unlikely friend, hotel roommate and computer-Scrabble rival, and expressed his support for first-year Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, the man responsible for this counterintuitive tag-team of an arrangement. "The bottom line is doing whatever it takes to help this team," Leinart said, "and we won a very big game today, so I can't be mad."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kris Jenkins started being concerned about his team’s effort a few weeks ago. The Carolina Panthers defensive tackle then decided he couldn’t wait any longer to address it.

After Sunday’s dismal 20-7 loss to Tampa Bay, Jenkins called out his teammates, saying they lacked heart, passion and drive.

Given 24 hours to reflect on comments that sent shockwaves through the organization, Jenkins wasn’t backing down Monday.

Yes, it's called job description.
Sheesh, what a little whiner Matt is.  He should be glad the team is winning.  It's a weird 2-qb system, but it seems to be working, and opponent's coaches by their own admission have said it makes it difficult to prepare for the Cardinal's different looks.  I suggest that Matt become king of the 2-minute no huddle drill, that is probably the only way he's going to get Warner out of the picture.

Katy, you're man is still hobbled....

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward will miss his second game in a row Sunday because of a right knee injury.

Ward has been unable to practice since he was hurt Sept. 23 against San Francisco.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry, the league's leading rusher, is trying to prevent the NFL from suspending him over the results of a drug test, Newsday reported Thursday.

Henry was granted a temporary restraining order in Suffolk County (N.Y.) Supreme Court to prevent the league from using a urine specimen against him and to prevent the league from disclosing the test results, but an appellate court vacated the order, according to court papers filed in Brooklyn federal court.

Cross Robert Gallery from the NFL's list of Terrible Twos.
After three disappointing seasons, Gallery seemed destined to join those who never came close to fulfilling the expectations associated with being the draft's No. 2 overall selection. But thanks to a change of position and coaches, Gallery should never be mentioned again in the same breath as busts like Ryan Leaf, Charles Rogers and Tony Mandarich.

Now entrenched as Oakland's starting left guard, Gallery is a major reason the Raiders (2-2) lead the league in rushing. Oakland enters its bye week averaging 194.2 yards a game following last Sunday's 299-yard effort against Miami.

"That game really shows the work we put in and the belief we have in the system," Gallery told FOXSports.com in a telephone interview. "To only have to throw 12 times and know we can mash it at them ... That's the type of team we are. That's how we're going to win a lot of games."

I know Ward is out.  sigh.  I don't know about Hampton, he may be out as well.
Big Ben has a foot issue as well, but he will play.
It may be a long day.

Miami QB Trent Green is down; he blocked Texans' DT Travis Johnson by cutting his legs out from under him, and injured himself. They're taking him off on a cart.
