Allo. i just thought time for some creative sharing, something less devisive, hopefully some fun.

You've been given $8000 dollars to make a playspace on Y/your current property. Nobody will ever see it but Y/you and partner.

Also, You've been given $80,000 to do the same anywhere in the world. Stipulations: you'll only get to use it twice a year. The rest of the year, it must be rented out to others. There is an operating budget of 20,000 per year, if you wish to staff it. (budgets r us) No advertising budget, rentals have to be garnered by word of mouth.

If you cannot keep the calendar full with rentals, Rich Uncle will take it back.

So.. for the local one, what will please only you two if you have nobody else in the world to consider?

On the big project, How would you design it so it is both your paradise, and has marketing appeal for others?

Ok, i'll go first.
Locally, i want a tiled hot tub up on a dais, with a bar, a fridge, and fluffy white towels everywhere.   There would have to be a massage table and a sound system for background music. There would be big frondy plants, and some bamboo growing, so canes would be handy. The ceiling would be over 14 foot so whips could be used there. The bar would be stocked with all the special things The Hims love, and i would get to wear ...oh, by now i can only afford a belly chain.

For the big project, i would go with the grecian bath or roman holiday theme, but add more stuff. i'd find a spot not far off the coast on an island.    A natural waterfall would be good, but could always just go with a fountain. A blue and white tiled covered courtyard, a steam bath and a cold bath, and more frondy plants.. i would hire towel/ fan staff and a masseusse. That would free me up to supervise the other slaves! "Yergna, please fan U/us while i give Master a blow job, and this time, remember to wipe my chin if i get drooly, yes?" And of course, Yergna can fan a Master if He gets dewey while whipping, that can be such a bother! (i hope yergna is a local that can be hired cheap!)

Oh, naturally there is a post for lashing up the slaves (me! me!) for flogging and such, and a "stone slab" to chain slave to for play or rest. And a stack of rattan mats in case Master gets merciful and allows padding for the slab. woo-hoo!   The Masters bed is interior, but the stone slab is a bed with rhino liner spray? That is on casters, so it can be wheeled outside.

for real fun, to make it self-sustaining for the most part. i would have the place stocked with livestock for hunting, pheasant and duck for meat and eggs,   It would be fun if i could learn to use bow n arrow to get pheasant.. and learn to actually cook the suckers on a spit. oh, and Plenty of baskets so i can pick olives and grapes and what-not. i think a lot of subs or slaves could get into having to live off the land to bring home Master/Mistresses meals.

(Can anyone tell i'm into the romanticised version of Roman Senator/ house slave or Caesar/ palace slave scenario? i'm not much for the medieval dungeon theme, i need more gleaming white in my fantasies.)

A great play space (the personal kind) needs only 2 things. Willing partners and a great imagination. Both FREE. LOL

The public one, now that would be an enjoyable task to put together.

Dear Mavis, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Space in private property often limits the equipment choices and size. However, IF I had a decent size house (like parent's home); I would add a sunken basement, as to do suspension bondage, using a ox cart's single-tree aka wiffle tree as a suspension bar (it fits into rustic decorations as well); I would put in a corner, like an old china cabniet but larger, a triangle cage, with a wooden door with an "X" support frame to it, so it can double as a 'cage' as well as a Saint Andrew's Cross. Lighting would be in the ceiling--nothing hanging as to tangle with single tails. Over the drain in most basement floors, I would put a wet section, for all kinds of torture. Near the fire place, I would put a section dedicated for fire play, wax play--having a fire screen as to keep the non-involved out of the fire zone; fire extinguisher will be in easy reach, as well as a chain pull as to act as a sprinkler system.
It will be fire resistant tile and fire brick. A bondage island in the center but, can be moved. Size of a bunk bed, with sliding panels, on "L" iron tracks, like sliding bedroom closet doors, to be locked in place with bolts and cotter-pins. H Frame, A Frame, X Frame, solid panel, chain link fence material, pillory and stock frame. Chain would be on all sides but, not as to interfere with the track and sliding panels in and out to adjust the 'frame/equipment' Chain can be used for fancy lacing bondage, e.g. spider web, rope dressing, situation bondage or simplistic bondage as to be free standing. All four sides can be in use, the interior a hanging rack. It could be locked into place by limiting the swing's movement. It can have panels where it becomes a kennel with chain link fencing all four sides or three sides; a exit door on the short side. Wide selection of equipment, e.g. floggers, canes, whips and such for guests, to include bondage equipment, with the exclusion of 'collars.' First aid stations and cleaning stations on all four sides of the dungeon.

With the larger space for rental, I would fit it as above. Just more stations, with adjustable spanking benches and racks, so it fits the people, not 'one size fits all.' Whip zones would be marked and a pathway provided as not to have overlaps. Portable racks, as to hang your equipment, put bags down--once done with a scene, move your rack to a lounge as to gently get slave/sub back on the ground from subspace, beverages are dispensed there for a small fee; lockers for attire, toy bags and such provided with a lock you must provide and have your own key. Bathrooms with showers provided, bring your own towel, etc. though--toilet tissue is 'on the house.' Volunteers to help, in turn--they would get perks. Offer area for a fee to BDSM conventions and or leather events/vending. Vendors wish to come, for a small fee to rent space and vend in the lounge area. Safety stations and cleaning stations on all four sides of the dungeon. Fire extinguishers are in easy sight and glow in the dark signs pointing to them and exits. Generator to back up in case of power loss.

LOL. No smokie for me, i tried it when i was a daring 10th grader. Friends said they weren't wasting good dope on me cuz i just fell asleep. i will admit a few Icehouses had an impact on that spa thing though..

Well, really.. a hot tub can be bought for 2000, and doing the work myself, (well, the Him would do it, but He does commercial construction, so can get a good deal on concrete.. that's really doable. The plants would be my biggest expense because they'd keep dying and have to be replanted, except for bamboo, which is understand is demonic in it's drive to thrive.

The other? i'm counting on island labor and a lot of bribery. <grins>

That's true, a lot of people have really great private play spaces already decked out, so i'm curious about that too.

But, i sorta figured at least ONE poster might admit to being in heaven with just a large wash room with ironing board, a sewing machine to make ren-faire costumes or scene-wear. Stocks to "rest" in between laundry loads.

LadyHugs, dayum. You've got it all out there Maam. i forgot the first aid station, i love the cage with cross thing. i could see you "staffing" the place with volunteers ala slave academy. Where would You spot this place on a map?

Dear Mavis, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I would have it in Virginia. Of course, Maryland is nice also. Washington, DC is getting to expensive.

Warehouses that are small and don't pose a good investment anymore, often can be rented. Some old gas stations have pits in them, where cars drove over pits, before lifts. Steps down the pit was the mechanic's way of doing things, plus--no mechanical problems working from the pit. Jiffy Lube spots if abandoned would work, same principle as a sunken basement/dungeon. Most old gas stations have hoists as to lift the engine and a track to cart it about. Some old libraries have ladders to get to the books, same theory--can transport a bound up slave, or a light weight cage; .e.g. chain cage, inverted bondage, on a rack suspended and or swing.

Barns are another good source for 'dungeon' space. Old barns offer heavy wood beams and a good foundation. Old Wagon wheels, especially from Ox wagons are thick and stout to hold a lot of weight. If you find some that need work, you can find Amish Wheelwrights to repair. They can serve as bondage wheel. Can hang in like a light fixture and have all those sections open for bondage points, giving measured space spread. Or, stand it and create a St. Catherine's/Katherine's Wheel. Ladders work as a bondage rack, upright (vertical), angle or horizontal. I could probably go on and on but, creative eyes can find things and create lovely bondage furniture and or into a lovely dungeon space.

I have been working on my budget so far and my personal dungeon would be done out of a spare bedroom. Carpet would be ripped up so there would be naked concrete. There would be a custom steel "cage" all along the walls and across the ceiling for bondage/suspension play, it would have rings and hooks built in for just this purpose. There would be a sliding door closet, which the doors would be removed and that is where the toys would be as well as a cage to keep her in when she misbehaves. A St. Andrews cross in one corner and a wooden stockade in the other. So far my budget is sitting at around $6,700 and that is mostly toys. The room would be lit by either scores of candles or by oil lamps. There would be neon lights built into the room for emergencies where great lighting is necessary. If I were to ingulge myself, I would add an iron maiden as just an art piece.

I would just have a nice big spare room with a huge mirror wall that slid back to reveal a closet/toy lock-up, a gyno chair, a number of properly reenforced big o-rings for chains/ropes/whatever(not suspendtions though) around the walls and roof and good high padded spanking bench oh and various lighting levels, all painted to my tastes hmmm black and pink everywhere:P
I am not hugely "dungon-y" person in the traditional sense
It the toy lock up I would go mad in :D

ALL of my fantasies include owning a house with a fantastic bathroom, huge hot tub, etc - not just the 'naughty' fantasies.

For me, I'm a total traditionalist. Dungeons have to have stone walls and chains. I don't care if there's carpet, electric light, all manner of restraints and implements and benches that allow all kinds of positions... but there has to be at least one stone/brick wall, and chains. That'd be my personal dungeon.

As for the big, expensive one - I'd call it a health spa. And I'd offer some very SPECIAL services. After a few weeks at my spa - well, it'd be a life-changing experience, that's for sure.

Mavis - love the questions, but you've been spending WAY too much time thinking about this.

Alright I love this post. This is very sweet because it gets my creativity FLOWING.
$8000? My personal dungeon would be very simple, slightly modern and I would have everything in black leather and classy satin. Black perferably or purple. I would have a surround sound system with a cd rack with all the best scene music (gotta have tunes), a t.v, that would have wonderful pictures of bondage and spanking bottoms. Sort of alike a slide show. My floors would be ceramic tile with a brick look to it and my walls would be deep blue. String lights everwhere for a nice glow and definitly a classy rack of leather goodies (toys). A little throne like chair with a foot stool so my partner could do my toes nails and massage my legs. In that corner I would have all colors of toenail polish and pedicure neccesitites. Not to mention all the beautiful candle holders and a couple of nicely scented candles. A small bed for some cooing and cuddling after a deep scene. With silky sheets and faux fur pillows. Lots of implements to go along with the dungone like pictures depicting spankings and kisses too. God that makes me giggle.
$80,000?Goodness, since I'm SO frugal (martha stewart with a whip) It would complelty fully equipped with a serious Medieval aura. It has to be Medieval because that is what I want the feel to be. Wooden yokes, hardcore chains, background opera music (deep intense), torches, and medival like toys with wooden handles, wooden suspension, NOTHING modern. OLD TYME style dungeon, with the sound of a dragon blowing fire on the HOT scenes. There would be crosses and heavy iron chandliers, strong candle holders with wax everywhere. I would have a Knight in somewhat shining armor to be the guard at the door. A butcher table and there would be a couple of separate rooms for play as well. With the big iron knockers on the doors. Especially at the entrance door. There would be a slide and a big burly guy saying..password?? The main room would have a beautiful picture of Queen Elizbeth with a whip in her hand a slave kissing her feet she would be cloaked in a beautiful black chifon dress with a leather shoes. Her lips would be a hot red color and man that would bring men to their knees. Oh what's that sound??? Some slave grunting and moaning while his Mistress cracks him hard with her whip. Okay.
Now for my turn since I only get to use twice a year. That would be delicious fun. I would make this beautiful dungeon at the heart of Bora Bora. One of the rooms would have the ocean as the floor. Open style visual of the blue green ocean, sandy beaches and deep sunsets. It would do well because this would be a vacation BDSM spot for all Mistress and her slaves and all Master and his slaves. Rich uncle will love it so much because there he can get his erotic massage while watching tropical fish swim underneath him and listen to wonderful enya. If he wanted a little hardcore he would go to the next room and immediatly he would be molested with a ball and chain and voila. Shackled to a cross. Giggles.

I would take over and old school, all those classrooms would make perfect scene spaces.

To me, there is a large part of me that loves fantasy, things like grecian baths, eyes wide shut sort of spaces, even a victorian men's club as in the Story of O.

No floggers would be allowed though, nor single tails.

And the one sex toy I have yet to see or use, an actual basket where the woman is suspended over the man and rotates directly over his cock.

There would not be a single piece of pine, zinc hardware or anything else that is ever sold in Home Depot.

Dear becca333, Mistrix, Ladies and Gentlemen;

You would have enjoyed traveling to the Medieval Crime Museum in Rothenburg, Germany, the Medieval Dungeons in Nuremberg, Germany and the Restraints Museum in Linz, Germany. Torture and restraints are rather well documented and shown there.

Another good site is at is Museum Gavengenport, The Hague in the Netherlands and Museum of Midieval Criminology, at San Gimignano, Italy.

Most of these museums are in former castles with dungeons. I enjoyed them very much and got most of my inspiration from them.

The interesting historical 'torture manuals' were :
Die Heilige Inquisition (The Holy Inquisition) -- Wesen, Method und Wirkung (Essence, Methods and Effects)

The "Holy Inquisition" and Medieval period has inspired modern BDSM and S&M for a long time.

ok.. the first part is easy.. since I already have the private dungeon.

The room is lined in black cloth on the walls. with one wall being wood pine stripping that is stained black. I have a couple of mirrors in one corner. The floor is covered in a grey soft high impact mat that makes it very comfortable to walk on. On several locations on the walls i have alot of toys hung for easy access. I have a few pieces of furniture such as a Horse, Cage, Bondage bed, and A frame. I have a few others that are in the storage room that is only accessable from the dungeon. The room is sound insulated as well. The ceiling is covered in black and is laced with chains strung along the ceiling. The lighting is spot lights with red, green and blue. No white light except for an emergency or cleaning. The price tag is close to that 8000 dollar budget... but I think I went over.

As far as the bigger one... sorry 80000 wouldn't pay for the land. I need more money. *G*

Dear KnightofMist, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Land prices are awfully high! I agree! One would always hope that there would be a deed of land of approximately 50 acres, with a Trust to pay the taxes associated with it, and the assessments for the buildings.

There was talk at times, ages ago--where a group would create a private compound. It would be a danger, as it would be considered a cult by some. However, shared expenses and involvment would help people to enjoy the property and not be a slave to it.

The prices won't be lowering anytime soon.

There is a 'castle' out in the country in Virginia. A man built it as an English castle, complete with dungeon, draw bridge, thick walls, and leases it out for special occassions. That would be an ideal setting for some.
