Nothing amazes me more that our justice system.  Here are two situations:

Remember the teacher (LaFey was it?)  that  was convicted of  for having sex with the 14 year old boy?  She was NOT sent to prison, but placed on house arrest.  Why?  "Because she was too pretty to go to prison"

The other is a man of 5'- again a child molester who was convicted but NOT sent to prison "because he was too short and wouldn't survive".

The ONLY thing I will ever quote from Glen Beck is "These things make blood squirt out of my eyes!"

I wonder if the justice system realizes that when a child is violated they NEVER recover. I am an adult survivor of child abuse and I thank God for my church, counseling services and good friends that make it possible for me to live a normal life but the nightmares NEVER go away...When you violate a child in fact you are KILLING them, stripping them of the chance to live a normal life....In my opinion child molestors should be killed. They can not be rehabilitated, in my eyes.

What is rehabilitation, in any case?

Take heart, the US has the largest prison population in the "free" world.

Two million and counting

"if it aint worth the time, then dont do the crime" and "dont do the crime, if you cant do the time", spring to mind.

Its simply not relevant, how someone looks or whether they'll be able to survive prison. Crikey - if I did an armed robbery and was sentenced (as I should be in such a circumstance) to 15 years in gaol, then its my lookout, surely? That I'd be sent to a male prison, looking like a female, would my lookout too. I'd be real popular in there - put in the protected zone, out of the way of the main population, along with the child abusers, rapists and so on. But that would my lookout.

Most people that are gaoled are not a danger to society and 'dangerous' should be the criteria for putting someone away. The only thing gaol does is make petty criminals into heavy criminals. Britain puts more people away than anyone else in western Europe, putting people away is a cultural thing and not a necessary thing. One in three British adult men have criminal records, that is because Britain has more criminal lawa than other countries not because Britain has more deviants.

When I worked in the probation service I've known petty criminals be put in prison that have come out drug addicts and started real criminal lives on their graduation. British criminal policy IS CRIMINAL and self defeating.

you steal get caught you get hung .

you kill you get killed

Wrong. Some do, some don't.

While I am truly sorry for your experience, I have to disagree with the above statement.  Some do.

A heavily edited comment from meatcleaver

Now then Mr MC as Mrs Thatcher is alleged to have said to G Bush snr...Dont go all wibbly wobbly Liberal on me....She was talking about Iraq/Kuwait situation not Liberals....but still the quote fits.

These innocent young things that get sent to prison when say they are 21 have most probably been committing crimes since they were 12/15 or so.
If they had been punished earlier by being incarcerated in a hard labour situation and  then given some support on release, I think there would be much less crime and therefore fewer people in prison.

Changing the totally hypercritical laws on drug trading/consumption would also help !
