Hmm, I am going to say that you both are right. If you can wash them right away, then hot water...the hotter then better...is the best thing to use. However...if for somereason they do NOT get washed right away, soak them in COLD water, ICE, and SALT.

Cool, will it work for getting blood stains off of walls and floors too?
You know, like a lot of blood so that luminol won't pick it up?

I always used cold water immediately. Now I use Oxyclean or a similar product. Works everytime.

I have always used cold water on blood stains and it works, sometimes I add a little detergent after using just the water for a bit and it takes it out beautifully.

cold water, so the stain doesnt set in - when dying cloth, hot water is used to set the color - and either hydrogen peroxide or bleach. Bleach is preferred if there's a worry about viruses. A solution of 1/4 cup bleach to a gallon of water is recommended for blood spills to kill any possible pathogens.

But hey, are you saying you don't like malt vinegar on your "chips" (french fries)? C'mon, that's good stuff - barley juice juice on a fried potato bit. CG, this is the way it goes here and you know it's only right to sit up and take notice of the British when it comes to food. Anyway, ketchup is for kids and when I say kids I mean 5 years olds. Once we reach 5 we graduate to a more refined condiment such as the aforementioned vinegar. I couldn't think of anything worse than putting ketchup on my chips (apart from a long conversation with some of the right-wing fools who inhabit this earth - even ketchup has a political element to it) and far as I'm concerned it puts you lot on a par with those other heathens from Europe who put mayonaisse on their chips.

Also, I heard a whisper the other day that you call your chips freedom fries but I can't believe you'd shamelessly use a potato to make a political statement so I'll dismiss it as folly.

If it's a fresh stain, cold water will keep the stain from setting in.
...And Hydrogen peroxide works well too, but I think only on fresh stains too. Older stains, I try spray and wash or throw it out, and buy another if spray and wash doesn't work. M

I'm with hot water sets the stain and blood is best treated with cold water. I also agree with the oxyclean, it's pretty good on things like this - but I stand by cold water. My mom, who was also a nurse, also always said "cold water only on stains."

I do not, however, have the level of experience that most women do with their delicates. I haven't had that monthly misfortune for 23 years (well, 23 years in November). I have, however, done a LOT of blood play. A lot.
