I agree that this is a cookie problem. Odin help me if I ever have to reload. I avoid it like the plague, and in 98SE. One thing to remember about XP is that there are different users, when you go to documents and settings you will see all the user names there, and if you didn't format, the old ones will still be there. You might not be able to access them, so what you might have to do is unplug the PC about three times during bootup and get on as administrator, in safe mode. Find the cookies for your old usename and move them into your current cookie folder. If there was any security setup on the last load, you might have to go through a process of "taking posession of these files", and then sharing them, or once in your posession you can simply move them to your current user directory in "documents and settings". Actually you do need to move them or copy them, because IE will look for them there. There is a little secret about XP I discovered. Get a spare ten gig HD and load it on your machine, XP only, you don't need word or anything. Then unplug the drive and let it rest until you need it. When XP crashes hard, get out this lil ten gigger and use your main drive as a slave. Booting off the extra drive it might say "Windows has detected a problem with drive X, do you wish to rerpair it. Of course you do. I actually had where a format had been started and XP fixed it ! Perhaps even start the format and unplug it, then put in your lil rescue drive. It works. Of course this was XP pro corporate edition, not all versions might be able to do it. Pro corp is awesome, once I learn how to do all the modifications I did to 98SE I will be using it. The problem with me is I DL alot of music and sometimes get multiple copies, in 98SE I can play them all at once using mplayer7, I'll have to see if it will run in XP. While there are doubts, it should work. Actually if you didn't know, you can run msconfig in 95, to get selective startup and whatever else. I believe there is one exe and one dll and you can run them from a floppy. When I finally go with XP, I am loading this lil ten gig, then cloning it to the 80 gig or whatever. Then the ten gig will sit there mounted in the PC, but not connected. Of course all drivers and stuff will be there. That has got to be the most solid backup possible, an unconnected harddrive. But then you can't clone it to your main drive or you'll lose all your files, but you can boot off it. It may even be able to repair whatever happened to your boot drive. I almost busted a nut when I saw this work, I plugged in my buddy's original drive and it worked. I was in awe. This thing was so screwed up it wouldn't get out of blackscreen, recovery console wouldn't work, I thought I was screwed. There is seemingly a hyper administrator in safe mode, and you actually can password protect it, but I don't recommend it unless you write that password down. That way, all you have to do is force the thing into safe mode and you can do many things, like take posession of encrypted files etc. I saved thousands of dollars worth of this guy's porn that way. Sick shit too, copied a bunch of it myself :-) Reloading a PC is not fixing it, it is giving up on fixing it. I can't stand defaults. They have sucked on every version of windows since 95. At least XP puts you in 800 by 64K on the display. At least it finds your network and the internet so you can DL drivers, but a reload is still a bad deal. I believe this site uses cookies, but it may also use your IP, which would explain you being able to get in one way but not another. Sometimes this shit is too much and I feel like booting from the MEPIS Linux CD, which does a hell of alot more than I expected. With it I got true color, sound, network and internet. It is absolutely invulnerable to anything, because the OS is on a CD and can't be changed. I'm going to shutup now because I have almost talked myself into using MEPIS and throwing windows out the window. Funny, with 98SE I had to go theough all this crap to get it online throught the DSL MODEM, Linux found it right away and got on with no hassles whatsoever. T
