My Father only taught me 2 things.

1.How to shoot straight

And

2. Call EVERY woman  darlin', just incase you forget their name.

Dad was a dick but you can't argue with what works. LOL

General reply:

I prefer to be called by my name when becoming aquainted with someone, however, I don't mind terms of endearmen.  I find it kind of sweet to be called sweetie, or hon, or girl ...even pet would be ok, though Im not crazy about it.  I think its all in the tone.  If the person is coming off like they own you, or are trying to test you for a reaction, then its all wrong.  But if its done in an innocent endearing way, I wouldnt take any offense to it.

"having a pet"?

Oh dear. I think we're back to the illegalities again.

Especially if we're talking about living in a state that still thinks that having sex in certain orifices is not kosher.

After reading all the posts I think that there is a little too much ado about nothing, IMHO.  While I can see when just reading text that the term "my pet" can look very presumptious, and for that reason I try to avoid such usages, I really think that this is more of a figure of speach.  Such as: "my dear", "my darling", "my lady".  These terms when used in everyday speach do not illicit offense from most people, except from those with over sensitive hormones.  However, I think a lot would depend on the context of how it was used in the conversation, and without knowing this information it would be hard to judge one way or another.

I think a wise person wrote what is above.

You can go easy, making your own values and preferences known at a pace you're comfortable with. Along the way you can take things in a large context and not jump too soon to strong conclusions.

All the same I wouldn't advise ignoring gut reactions whether they are lit off by a figure of speech or something else. I'll bet that wise person wouldn't disagree.

It was interesting to read that comparison of "my pet" to expressions like "my dear." I might not be the only person to whom the "my" in "my pet" sounds much more possesive than the "my" in "my lady". I hadn't ever noticed that before. They both sound a little too lofty for my personal taste, but it takes all kinds to fill the freeways.

Anyone ever hear that Scottish guy on late night television say: ".. my cheeky little monkeys"?

I generally refer to anyone I communicate with as honeybunchkins.

The men from the forum who write me are generally a bit creeped out by it....  LOL

Yours,

I think it's a less-unsubtle way of the same "Hi, my name is Master/Mistress MYPHALLUSISHUGE and you WILL bow down!"
Unless, it's just...the way the person talks. ;-)
I've a habit of calling just about everyone 'babe'. Generally, though, when typing, I can keep myself from doing so, but maybe some can't. I don't know, but if someone addressed me as "my pet" I'd probably tell 'em "Well, my litter box needs cleaning, thank you."

This one doesn't mind it as long as they understand it's position and be respectful.

Boy some people have selective heearing... You do know you make yourself look bad by saying things like this... The op NO were said that calling someone pet was bad no one els said it was bad eather heck I myself love being called "My pet" by someone that OWNS me the Op was not makeing judgments on those that like it she was saying dont call me "MY" anything when you do not own her and she is right!! you shoud re read the OP this time not looking for something that isnt there so that you can get upset and make it look contravercial.

LOL...... there was a chat room here on CM, and the title was:

One collar to own them all, One collar to bring them, One collar to find them all... and in the darkness bind them.

I said..... hope Gollum don't find that Collar first!

LOL....

It bothers me too, not only because I AM owned, collared, and no other is allowed to own me (THANK GOD), but also because it's like they all think they already have a right to you.  Ugh, it bugs me.

Na not for this one.  It's a diminutive, it's meant to test the waters and see how susceptible you are to them interpreting "rude condescending clueless dork" as "sweet hunky possible dom of my dreams."

Trust me, lots of people, specially the clueless newbies, get a little thrill of delight at ANYONE calling them a pet name.

I mentioned to one my subs (the former cop) that I would not have a problem with her asking the CHUDWAH trying to call her by those pet names how it would sound after she punched out his teeth.

I think I was joking, but in the red kill fog attendant from dealing with the intellectually challenged, who can really tell?

But that was just me, and I could be wrong.

No one is Mine until certain things have taken place.
1.Would be that I have met them.
2.Would be that they have sessioned here more than a few times.
3.Would be they wear a collar here/outside of here.
People that session here arnt Mine until some type of commitment is made.

However....while you are here...you are Mine.
