What would be something you could rub on yourself or spray on yourself to prevent flea bites and moskito bites in your own home? I thought about off but it says on the directions that it's not to be left on skin for prolonged periods of time and this needs to be on 8 plus hours.

i use Avon Skin So Soft. Not the stuff they designed as an insect repellant, but the regular old Skin So Soft you put in your bathwater. It works. You have two choices with it - either take a bath putting a capful into your bathwater, or you can put it in a spray bottle and to do that just water it down. i'm not sure about the ratio of SSS to water in the spray bottle, but i think 1 part SSS to three parts water should be watered down enough to not clog the spray bottle, yet strong enough to repel the mosquitoes. For some reason they don't like the smell of it, and it softens your skin to boot.

If you decide to try this, it's the original scent, not any of the new ones they've come out with.

I use it for the same purpose and agree, if you try SSS, it should be the orginal scent, not the newer versions.

And for gods sake stay away from the actual insect repellant SSS. I'm not sure if we just had evil mutant skeeters up there, but I remember the crew I was supervising used to spread some on a stump and use !OFF or soemthing on themselves.. not that it mattered, because the skeeters weare alllllll over the skin so soft stump... *shudder* I hate mosquitos.

adding tomatos to your diet will help some too.   the small grape tomatos are good, because the effect is only for like 3 hours after eating them, so it's nice if you can have nibbler handfuls.  (this only works for mosquitoes as far as i know,  fleas..  erm... bomb the house?)

I am going to add chiggars to the list.  I know some of you have no clue what they are.   They are a little boring mite that gets under your skin and drives you nuts.

Skin-so-soft works sometimes.   So does the liberal use of garlic in the food (but it has a side effect - causes body odor in some)  I learned this when in the field in the Army.   I always carried garlic as one of my two spices (tobasco and garlic) to season up field rations.

I would suggest instead of attempting to use a repellent you try having your pets dipped then use something that provides continuous protection like Frontline or BioSpot. You also need to have your house bombed and treat your carpets a few times as well as treating your yard; using a product on yourself only masks the problem it is not a viable long term solution.

Mixing powdered clove with uncented oil and rubbing that on the body can be helpful too.

Twice it's mostly miskitp's One flew into my face minutes ago. However one time during a particularly bad season of flea's We did have to treat out yard an the house an the dog once cause he was so itchy from the flea's he had hot spots.

The annoying thing and what pisses me off is you'll be minding your own buisnes, you don't hear feel or see anything and then BAMB all of a sudden you're itchy it hurts like a mother fucker and there's huge white inflamed welts.
