I have Cingular, and I like it for the most part.

my plan was too good- thats why they are phazing it out. 850 daytime minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile, free nights and weekends, no long distance.  34.99$ a month. if i drop the older fone it doesnt break.

oh - 5% discount too for being in the union...... lol

Hello A/all,

I recently had the same problem with Cingular Wireless that the OP had; Cingular bought ATT and refused to maintain the ATT network infrastructure, so over time, the service went from bad to
worse.  At the time, I needed a plan which was unlimited long distance in all of North America, not just the US, and no roaming.  Cingular did not offer this.

My only connection to the universe for most of my day (since I stand under cranes in Long Beach harbor) is my cell phone.  So I asked around.  Everybody who has T-Mobile had a lovely horror story for me.  Cingular and Sprint offered dubious coverage in the harbor.  Nextel was not bad, but I had issues from when I had them years ago.  Verizon had (by a significant margin) the most towers in the area, and most of the people I spoke to with that service claim it works well in the harbor.

I would suggest you work out exactly what you need in your cell phone service.  Then ask pointed questions of the people trying to sell it to you.  And ask people with the services you like how they like the service.

I am relatively happy with my Verizon service, but I need to really research whether I am using my minutes, need more minutes, or whatever, to make sure I have the right plan.

Just me, etc.

Sinergy

I have had Cingular for years.  After the AT&T merge, my coverage improved.  Because of where I lived, coverage could be iffy though.  Many people I know swear by Verizon, saying coverage is even better than Cingular.  Depends on where the cell towers are, how many of them exist, and who owns them.  Each area varies.  Cingular is great for me in the Sierra Foothills but not so great in Santa Cruz, etc.

Verizon here, too.  I'm in my 6th year and 3rd phone with them.  When your contract is up, they give you $100 towards a new phone (I think that was if you either had a 2-year plan or are re-signing up for another 2-year plan), which makes most of them free.  Rarely drop a call....the calls that get dropped are almost always coming from Sprint phones.  I've heard a lot of complaints about Sprint and the service.  I think the region of the country you're in matters, though.
