It also changes it on the thread page. So it would appear as if some other thread or new thread has been started, when it's actually just a reply to a pre-existing thread. On mailing list type groups, changing thread names is preferred when the topic has wandered off topic or spun off onto a new topic. Often the thread will start off as "Cold play (was Re:torture)" to let people know a new thread had started based off of a previous thread. On a posting board type group like this, it's much simpler and straightforward to just start a new thread with a new title. It's always ill-advised to just change the topic of a thread on a whim or just because one is replying.
