Hi all. In a few weeks, I'm going to be flying across the country for an extended play date. Anyone have advice on toys and airlines? I'm especially interested in experiences since the liquid bomb scare in England.

Put any of your toys in a checked bag.  I traveled with all my things checked, and I had no problems.
They didnt search my things even though i had whips and cuffs in there.  Then again, flying out of Vegas... theyve probably seen worse.

I try not to fly with toys, if I do, I make sure they are one's I don't mind losing - just in case.
Best advice, either travel with toys you may have to give up, or plan to buy new ones when you arrive. You CAN also fed-ex your toys to your destination ahead of time.

Go in early to the airport to allow them to search the bags. Ask them to do it privately. REMOVE the BATTERIES. Don't pack metal toys.
Either pack them in your luggage and ask them to search the bags privately and tag them. Or pack them on your carry-on, which may be searched a couple of times before you get to the plane. Don't get embarrassed though, they've seen it before and they will again

One of Master's favorite floggers never made it from SF to LA.  The rest of the toys survived, but apparently it was someone else's favorite, too.  My toys did survive the flight, but I left the chain flogger out, so as not to pack metal.  If you are into knife play I would suggest leaving them behind as well.

I agree, the best bet is to put your toys in a checked bag. If you are into knife play and insist on taking them (which I have done) I would put them in a lock box of some kind within your checked luggage. If for some reason your not checking your bag I would personally limit the items I took (If a nail file is dangerous god knows what they will say about a flogger or other toys). *laughs*

I personally prefer shipping them UPS or FedEx, no questions asked & almost no concern about a loss of anything!!

I never thought about that.
That could work well and reduce delays due to security concerns over your toys. Not only that you can insure them so if they where to get lost at least you would be compensated.

One other thing--don't throw a vib with batteries in the trash at an airport. I remember another thread we had on this mentioned an airport being evacuated because of a buzzing sound coming out of the trash.

When i travelled to go see Him a couple of months ago, it was an international flight and i made sure i got there plenty early.. well, i guess they had lots of time to check through my bag (found the note upon arrival in Tampa).  Guess the Magic Wand sent off a few signals.  Other than the wand and some soft cuffs, that's about all i packed toy wise.  I was flying into Reagan and lord knows that is the most anal airport around.. we have to go through everything but a cavity search before we even left Toronto.

Oh.. and don't forget to leave your zippo in your checked luggage (Grumbles about the sign that was AROUND THE CORNER from the luggage belt)

I would also ship ahead to my destination. It would be so much easier. You would just have to live for a few days without your stuff once you shipped it, and when you get back. If you're staying with a friend you can easily ship to his/her address, and if you are going to be in a hotel, they are always very cooperative about storing items that arrive ahead of time. Just call ahead and tell them you are shipping items you will need and ask if they have any procedures you need to follow. Ship through FedEx or UPS so you can get a tracking number and they can guarantee a delivery date and also provide insurance.

Your total cost both ways might be $30-40 depending on how much you are shipping, but it would be so much more secure than going through the airport. No worries of someone rummaging through your stuff and maybe keeping some of it or making you throw it away or packing it back up in such a way that it gets damaged.

Ship a couple of days early, then they arrive before you do.  There's NO need to be w/out you're precious toys!!

I'd agree with the shipping. You can ship crops and spreader bars in poster shipping boxes. If you are shipping toys that are expensive to replace remember to properly insure them, and I wouldn't ship or travel with anything that you couldn't see yourself being able to replace. If the item is clothing and it wouldn't set off metal detectors you could, depending on what it is, consider wearing it under your clothes as you fly.

Another suggestion for flying is to wear shoes that are easily removed, because the TSA will make you take them off to check them. One time I was at the airport picking up my sister and I saw this lady walking towards the screening area wearing tight thigh-high boots, and while they looked great I had to think she regretted it when she got to the table. Thanks Richard Reid for screwing that up.

Well, what I meant was the time before you leave but you have shipped them, and once you get back home and are wating for them to get back.

Check da toyz...CHECK da toyz!  Seriously! LOL!  Unless of course you like being singled out in front of everyone...while the security crew muses upon your various implements, walks around waving them in the air for all to see...and your possbile terroristic intentions...LOL...or even more fun...when others are looking at you sidewayz...twas great humiliation for me though...i was havin a blast!  Once is enough though...now we alwayz CHECK DA TOYZ! Hahaha!

Buy new ones when you get there.  It's amazing the fun you can have with simple household items, and a bit of ingenuity.  And it gives you peace of mind when you travel - I know that Customs and airport security watch for signs of nervousness, and I always feel guilty even when there's nothing in my bags to worry about.  I'd have no chance if I had anything ...interesting... in my bags.

Well obviously a very smart girl here.     Certainly that's at issue.  So in the long run it becomes your decision to take them on board & the POTENTIAL SLOW DOWN & LOSS" or a day at home w/out them on your return. My rhetorical question to you TNstepout is: which will cause you the least grief?  That's the direction you should take.

Hmmm, maybe I'll make my sub stash them in his carry-on. Watching him freak out while going through security would be a great start to the weekend. Thanks everyone.

For one year of high school, I went to a private prep school.  I packed all my
explosive making chemicals in my suitcase with my clothes.   I sure glad I'm
not a high school student today with basement bomber tendencies.  We
don't live in a very forgiving society today, or one with a sense of humor.
Even though, I packed the chemicals fairly well, I realize today they still
could have posed a hazard.  I always think of the airlines that went down
in the Everglades when some oxygen canisters caused a fire in the
planes cargo compartment.  These days, I think budding chemists are
sent to reform school.

I can't believe we jail teenage computer hackers for pointing out
our weaknesses.   If not for them, I guess our contry would be at
the mercy of professoinal hackers from foriegn governments.

Oh this brings up such embarrasing memories!  My Dominant and I went on a cruise in March.  We needed to run our check in bags through an xray machine before taking them to the counter.  Remember....these were our CHECK IN bags!  Right there, in front of God and everyone, the inspector asked me to open my bag because there were things in there that they couldn't identify.

Out came a large vibrator, a flogger and other toys.  Talk about learning humility.  With a chuckle, they suggested I pack them back.  I looked at my Dom who was laughing at the whole incident, not the least bit red or embarrased.

Geez!
