I'm leaving tomorrow (driving) for Omaha to visit an old Navy buddy of mine and his family. Him and his wife have two sons 18&20 who are basically good kids but both quit high school and are doing marginal jobs (Lawn Jockey type jobs) so me and my buddy Mike are going to see if we can kick their asses and get them to get their G.E.D.'s and join the Navy. They still live at home so we're going to tell them that "Ma and Dad" are going to sell the house so they better get their asses squared away! lol This should be fun![:D] The younger one Jordan (I call him "Rocko") Is a good mechanic and likes working on engines so he'd make a good jet mechanic or something like that. The older one Michael is also mechanically inclined but the old man is worried about him "knocking up some floozey". Both of them have had minor scrapes with the Omaha Police like skipping school and Jordan did 30 days at "the farm" for truancy and a lot of speeding tickets in their souped up cars, that kind of thing, nothing "serious." Mike and I both agree that they'd both be much better off in the Navy than "hanging out" with their friends and doing "marginal" employment that has no future in it. Susan, while I'm there I'd like to see that "Father Flanagan's Boys and Girl's Town". Do they have tours there? Check your messages. The funny thing is that my buddy and his wife (are) thinking about selling the house and possably moving here to Myrtle Beach for the weather. So hopefully we'll be successful in putting a bug up their asses! This will be fun! I'll be there till tuesday then on the way back I'll be stopping in Kearny, Missouri to visit a Coast Guard buddy of mine and his wife and kids. His wife is a Nurse Practitioner and is working on her Doctorate in Nursing. Very smart and very ambitious. He works for the Post Office, I call him "Cliff Clavin." (I wonder if his shoes squeek?) They promised to bring me to a restaurant that has "the best K.C. Barbeque." It's nice having Navy and Coast Guard buddys all over the country that I can stop in and visit . So I'll be gone for about a week or so and it should be a fun time! I like doing long distance driving. Looking at the scenery etc. I'll be driving through S.Carolina, a piece of Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, part of Iowa then into Omaha, Nebraska. I bet the corn is high if they haven't already harvested it. What was your last "Road Trip" and to where?

We went to Bozeman Montana. My daughter and her husband are getting a divorce. She and a friend were headed here (Washington) from Ft.Campbell, Kentucky. They made it all the way to Bozeman before the air conditioner pump went. So my husband and I had to go over. Was a quick trip over ,but it was a great trip back. Hadn't seen her for over a year so we got to catch up. I love Montana but going over the Great Divide always gives me butterflies. But the scenery is awesome if you like the mountains.

It wasn't literally my last road trip but was the last one of significant distance, Halifax to Vancouver. I was visiting a friend in Vancouver and because I had time and money enough decided I'd like to see something of Canada.

Last one that was a biggie was in 2003, we rode from Indiana to Sturgis S.D. for the bike rally..around 1257 miles one way. That month we also hit Milwaukee for the HD Birthday party. Time the month of August was over we put 4,150 miles on the bike and I was actually ready to sit on something that wasn't moving...lol. Most notable event was Shifted falling asleep with a cup of ice propped on her knee between Souix Falls S.D. and Souix City IA and never spilling a drop. As for Omaha...I used to live there...if you like Fish, hit Joe Tess's and you are into a big ole steak, try Coniglia's in South Omaha if it's still there(I think that's spelled right..if not Susan of O can correct me). Best tenderloin is probably still at the Alibi, across the river in CB.

Scooter, that's a lot of miles on a bike in one month! I hope you didn't run into much rain. Did you have rain gear with you?

Wisconsin to Yellowstone and back in 6 days. As a Brit used to the short distances long time in traffic rotuine I still get a buzz from the big empty roads and spaces in the US. Lots of US friends say South Dakota is boring drive till you get to the Blackhills but I love the lack of people. Go a few miles away from an Interstate and its just..............empty....! Devils Mountain, Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Bighorn Mountains........I really am as excited and wowed as I sound....so were the family. And I spend half my life in airports or travelling to and from airports. .......!

A good putt ScooterTrash, some of us folk took a road trip in looks back I think 1985 from Smithers BC to Sturgis clocked just short of 1700 miles one way (talk about numb bum). But it was a great time!

Have a good trip!! (next time do it on a bike...) I take one week off every year and go for a good putt. This years trip was from my shack in Mt. and down thru Id,Ut,Az,Nm,Co and back home 2800+mi...6 National Parks...8days...100+ photos taken.... on my old '54 rigid. Next years trip....???? Not sure yet but it gives me something to look forward to all winter long.......

Dtesmoac, yes! I get that feeling too. I've been to S. Dakota before years ago and saw Mt. Rushmore too. It's just nice to drive on the open road with no other cars on the road.

The long journey sounds great, I love that kind of thing. As a Brit. I'm in a position to do something similar, I fancy starting from Dallas, find out more about the JFK "thing", then travel thru' the South West and end up say in San Diego. How far is that then ? Might see a bit too much desert tho ! I have the time, I have the money, I have the the dream.....I just lack the get up and go. Dont suppose I'll ever do it.

Our last road trip wsa back in June for a couple of weeks to get married. Nebraska. There is definately something to be said for getting in the car driving and seeing the sights. Rather than spending days upon days getting on planes. Being able to stop anywhere along the side of the road when you want to. I was just in Ohio during Black Family Reunion..it sure is greener there than it is here. I marvel at the different colors of tree's.

We only hit rain coming back from Milwaukee...other than that ShiftedJewel Dommed the weather I guess...I swear, we saw storm clouds and drove through them when they parted.
