NorthernSwitch11 -> Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 11:26:26 AM)

I read someones profile today and a comment in their journal really got me thinking.  Im sure most people have experienced it, whereby somebody emails you when you have explicably wrote you are not interested in men/women.  Maybe the reply you got to a well wrote email was abusive or maybe the person just used you for a pic or bit of fun and then made a new profile.  It annoys me and im sure others that these people do what they want and there is now way we can warn each other about said people due to the rules of the site.  I for one believe in name and shame where its proven and clear they have done wrong and would like to see the rules change or something done to stop this happening.  Please post your own feelings on the subject or your personal experiences, maybe if there is a big enough response something will be done or at least you can have a rant and maybe feel better.

I feel we have enough politics here already, without encouraging a blackballing clique.

LOL! Bloody idiots should be tossed in line for the gallos, for they obviously fear not the penalty for their actions! *grin

On a more serious note, we enter online at our own risk, *smile and really, if we tend to the meeting/greeting/mating situation from a matter of fact perspective, it is the inevitable delete key that rules, and the exclamation of NEXT! that takes precedence and moves us right along.

As she mutters that ole cowpoke theme of the ancients..."whoopie ta yah yay...get along little doeggies... lol! Ah no sleep does this! *grin

gentlethistle -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 11:36:05 AM)

My own opinion is that there is absolutely no mileage in this idea.

This recent thread sets out a lot of the reasons why:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_530059/mpage_1/key_fake/tm.htm

I'm not sure what would be gained by setting up any forum for those who feel aggrieved by the actions of others.  It would simply lead to claim and counterclaim ad nauseum.

I believe that the much-quoted advice in the circumstances you describe is to...'Delete.  Block.  Move On.'

I stand behind this site's rules in this regard; we need to be accountable for our own discernment of personalities online, and it would not be wise to endorse legitimacy through clique validation.

Having said that, I do empathize with your base lament. There are far too many frivolous communications that occur on this site and others. I lost count of how many times I've received the "hi sir, cool pics!" message with little other content. When finding a servant for my pet, it opened my eyes somewhat over how many less-than-authentic personalities there were vying for her attention, but if you watch, wait and listen, many will reveal their true nature long before personal information is requested.

I feel better for writing it although my own personal experience of this was a while back. Your views are not the same as mine but nonetheless i appreciate people posting their own thoughts and maybe i personally will find some good advice comes out of this.  Keep posting people its not a which hunt more of a shared experience and advice thread.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 11:43:45 AM)

People like that should be dragged into the street and shot like dogs.

And by people like that I mean people who think this idea would work.

benji

NorthernSwitch11 -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 11:54:52 AM)

Ive read some of the thread and i understand where your coming from, in a way i feel a little stupid as some of the reasons mentioned passed me by despite them being sound advice but again i stipulate although i did say it i dont want a witch hunt.  It just annoys me, deleting mails or ignoring people is only good advice once you know them to be to use a better word "time waster", ive got thick skin and can take it but why should people have to put up with being used in the first place.  What if you have spent alot of time talking with someone to finally meet them and unexpectedly meet "the family" or nobody turns up despite you travelling a great distance. These situations although fictiscious do not just mean a bruised ego, and in cases a real danger may be present.  I fully understand how a name and shame could be counter productive, but a bit more of the "advice to avoid these situations" and less of the "deal with it" attiitudes would be better for me and people honestly seeking good advice on this.

In response to some of the posts about drag the poster into the street and kick them to death lol, grow up it was an honest post and if people all agree its a stupid idea i stand corrected and humbled.  People seem to dwell on the trivial side and dont think for a minute of the dangers posed by meeting people who are not who they say they are.  Use this thread to educate people and me to make this a safer procces for all or to help them avoid this in the first place.  If you just want to make comments about dragging people for kickings etc try Jerry Springer.  Im only interested in grown up discussion.  I have already mentioned how my name and shame was a bad idea after the first few posts and when proven wrong i stand up and admit im wrong, i have no time for childish replies though.

NastyDaddy -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:01:49 PM)

Fakes and players deserve no more special attention than money scammers.

The bottom line regarding money scammers is that if you are scammed by one, then you are a dumbass.

Their parasitic presence is left for you to deal with... after all, they visit CM and they cause banner ads to be displayed too.

Why should you, your friends, or anyone else be babysat and pampered or protected against less than honorables of any type?

Bearlee -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:11:07 PM)

OMG!!!   benji...they don't shoot dogs, do they???

mnottertail -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:14:52 PM)

Well, they do horses.  (and by that reasoning, probably horse's asses.)

Why waste more time on those idiots?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:24:04 PM)

Because deleting them isn't dramatic enough?

Thats it feed the ignorant or inexperienced to the wolves after all if they dont have your mighty intellect then whatever happens however serious they deserve it and you can always have your i told you so i told you so moment of glee

gooddogbenji -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:34:24 PM)

Well, there is that, but there is also the view that we cannot protect you forever.  Either you learn on your own or you don't, but let your mistakes be yours.

Besides, if you take our advice and we are wrong, we get the blame.  So why give advice?

Yours,

benji

Never do or reveal anything you will regret and unless you feel comfortable don't send anyone your pic.  If people turn out to be idiots ignoring them is the most effective thing you can do to diffuse the situation. Sometimes nothing speaks louder then silence.

NorthernSwitch11 -> RE: Serial timewasters (8/28/2006 12:46:47 PM)

understood, and i agree you learn by mistakes but do you let your kid burn himself by not saying or do you tell him playing with fire is a bad idea.  Yeah he'll probably do it anyway but there is always somebody who heeds the advice.  I mean its common sense to for example let someone know where your going, or record the number/licence plate of a car you travel in or not to give out personal details when you dont know someone.  I mean im stupid but not that stupid but im not everyone.  I also dont mean to dwell on just this part of what i said this is the more serious part granted but there are people here who have been a member of the site for eons and must have some advice on the subject.  Taking said advice is up to the person but i or anyone could not balme someone because i followed the advice and it did not work, thats no reason not to give it though.  It feel like my initial point is being stretched out of proportion and probably my own fault.  All i meant to do was read others opinions on the subject and maybe pick up a few tips, certainly not asking for protection though or a bodygaurd.

In a way i feel quite bad for bringing this up in the first place, my intentions were based on good but it sems ive opened a hornets nest.

Now this is what im talking about a perfect example of a good response

Actually these "mirrored" hard lines were keenly impressed upon me by many others on this board in another recent thread involving a relocation expenses scam.

I stated my concerns over parasites of this nature and suggested ways to filter their profiles as they generate them. In return I was slammed and guffed over what was explained as a lack of intelligence on my part, depite the fact my concerns arose over a friend I had referred to CM being scammed in a similar scam (as was the thread starter... who was also referred to as a dumbass by "smart and intelligent" board members).

I let him burn himself.  Then I kick him.  Which explains why I have no kids.
