Thanks for all the help!! What i am looking for and i guess i have been more specific in my post.  I really want to have a corset that pulls it all in and pushes the boobs up.  and yes I do want to get my waist smaller. So I will be checking out all the site everyone has posted and get back to ya'll on what i think.

please check out

style is very important in to the fit of a corset.  just because you 'love' the look of one style doesn't mean that it will look that great on you.  talk to someone that knows and be honest about your porportions and measurements.  with that the best match can be made for you and you will most deffinately be happy for years and years to come.

best advice,go to a shop and try some.Different designers bone differently, and not all styles look the same on everyone. Lovesick corrective apparel makes some beautiful ones,as does Shane Couture...they are available in NYC at Purple Passion.Vollers and Versatile give a longer leaner look ,while Lovesick and Shane bone for the flared hip and bust ,tiny waist-very hourglass!
Now I have a very generous bustline (lucky, sometimes not so lucky me) so I have them adjust the basic patterns for my bust. Even an underbust (doesn't cover the breasts) lifts the breast area somewhat.

I own a few corsets and unless I knew the exact style and how it looked on me before hand I would not chance buying online...

My two cents...

Since there seems to be quite a few people around here with experience in corsets, I'll ask my question while I'm at it...

I bought an underbust corset back in September. It fits wonderfully in the waist and hips, but the top of it is perpetually too loose. I have the top edges pulled completely together, while there's still a decent-looking gap the rest of the way down. I'm not a tightlacer, and I was wondering if perhaps my problem is simply because I'm overweight and most of my weight is right there in the middle? Would a custom-made corset work better in this sort of situation?

I love wearing mine because it gives me an actual visible waistline while still remaining comfortable to wear, but the looseness at the top makes it look funny when I'm wearing it under other clothing.

Yes, a custom one is probably your best bet, as it wouldn't have this problem. The other thing you could try, if you're particularly attached to that specific corset, is look for a place that has done alterations on corsets before near you, and ask them to amend the issue.

You may indeed need a custom corset. There should be no gap under the breast,or if it is an overbust (covers your breasts) the cup should be filled. It is ok to lace with the back being a  V shape or inverted V  or parallel lines down the back....the gapping you describe is not a sign of a good fit. Again going to a shop, the fitter should make other suggestions if this occurs ie.custom fit.

You might want to ask a tailor if something can be altered, but it is usually best to have it done right when it is made.

Hope this helps somewhat.
