Status: offline 		So I'm beginning to think drivers now days are worse then they ever have been. I have been in two accidents this year and both were not my fault. Do you ever find yourself having road rage and just wanting to smash into the car in front of you during a traffic jam...hmm ok that was just a little crazy. So what have been your worst experiences dealing with drivers?   I have a few but will share those later.

Status: offline 		Oh, I have a winner for this one here.
I was driving home from work, on a major highway, and getting close to my turn off.  A car in the lane to my left cut in front of me, across my lane and intot he right turn lane i was switching into. We nearly crashed, but my car handles realy well and I manged to avoid both hitting him and driving off into the ditch. He was in front of me now, on a 1 lane each direction road that connects the highway to te major street. He slowed down to about 15 mph, even witha long line of rushhour traffic behind us. I flipped him off.. and he STOPPED! He got out of the car and came over and banged on my window and asked me if I had a problem!
Now, im not one for a cool head sometimes, so I got out of the car. He grabbed my shirt and threatened to take my head off.  (May I interject I am also a former karate instructor) He was on the ground on his back very quickly. He picked himself up and ran back to his car.. amazing how badly they do when you fight back.  And, with all the traffic behind us... I gota round of applause, people stuck their hands out their windows to clap.  It was very funny.. very movie sceneish.

So yeah, road rage is interesting.

Yup, road rage needs to be dealt with properly, that means no smokeys. People out there gonna scare my Mom etc. ? Oh yeah, who else wants a limp ?

Did it ever occur to you just how much hubris it takes to get road rage ? To slow down to 15 ? That is illegal in this state. It says 40 minimum. But you probably did not let him over. Didn't you know he had a bad day and his Wife was bitching at him on the cellphone ? How could YOU be so reckless as to fail to be omnipotent and see the poor Man's plight ?

Thus he needed to smite you, as you are obviously one of his god's emenies. The god says you are not responsible for your actions and will be forgiven no matter what.

Personally, if I were weaponless and thought I was outmatched, and it was someone from a car IN FRONT of me ? Oh yes, I know how to use a motor vehicle as a weapon. It's easy. When Mr Roadrage has a tire track on his face he will be much more cooperative. Believe me.

It is good that you put the boy on his ass. The more of that happens the better.

Status: offline 		It's not the road-rage that I see often, it's the mass-production of blinding stupidity, like turning left from the right lane or right from the left lane across a 6 lane state highway.

Status: offline 		I had only seen two car accidents in my whole life...until........i moved down to Arizona.  It is a daily occurance here.  ughz!
I don't know where all these people are going in such a damn hurry...they are not going to get there any sooner.  *laughs*   I will say there are many down here that just tick me off to no end, i have people riding my ass all the time, so of course when they do, i slow wayyyyyyyy down and laugh to myself.........i tend to drive 5-10 miles over the speed limit, not always, but on the major highway, i will cop to that.  Most are traveling way over that.
There is a great deal of road construction going on at any given time, if there are workers involved the fines are doubled/tripled.  I will never understand why people do not see that going 20 miles over that given limit will become a felonly to them if they are caught. 
I have been in more than a few major stand stills on the 60 down here.  There are times that people litteraly try and push your car to inch you up more.  *blinks*  what the hell!

I wouldn't say that i have alot of road rage, but there are times that i have yelled at a few people:  Get off your fucking cell phone and DRIVE!  <rolls my eyes>
(i hope they pass the cell phone law down here)

Status: offline 		I got purposely slammed into by a guy coming off an exit ramp.  I was in a long line of bumper to bumper cars going straight through and I guess he ran out of patience and tried to force his way in.  He drove right into the side of My car...

The other day I got cut off by a guy in a pickup truck, yapping on the cell phone and not paying attention to what he was doing.  I pulled up beside him and yelled at him to get off his damn phone.

Status: offline 		My son works for a road maintenance crew during the summer.  He told me that drivers who have to wait at the flag sometimes cuss them out and flip them off - all they are doing is fixing the roads for these drivers.  Do drivers think the road fixes itself?

My sister was driving the speed limit and the guy behind her wasn't thrilled about so he rode her back bumper, when she turned, he turned and continued to ride her bumper. When she came to a stop sign she put the car in park, shut off the engine, got out and went to the back of the car... the whole time this guy is honking his horn and cussing her. She very calmly opened the trunk of her car and stepped aside, looked up at the guy and yelled "GO FOR IT YOU STUPID SON OF A B*TCH, YOU'VE BEEN TRYING FOR THE LAST MILE!!" all while pointing at the open trunk. People in cars behind her applauded.
 
My mother in a bank parking lot. She had parked (Keep in mind she was driving and old Chrysler Imperial.. aka... Tank). A guy in a truck pulled in and parked next to her and when he got out his door hit her passenger door. He didn't even look up. She said something to him about it, he just flipped her off. They both came out of the bank at about the same time. He looked at her, opened his door and intentionally hit her car. He backed out and went to the exit and had to wait for traffic. She backed out, went to the same exit and rear ended him. He jumped out of his truck in time to see her back up and do it again... and again... and again. He was screaming and yelling and she was sitting there grinning. He was at her window yelling at her when she finally stopped, looked at him and said "You best be careful whose car you hit from here on out, next time I'll run that thing down."

Status: offline 		I got rear-ended by a female senior citizen with a handicapped license plate.  She was determined not to let someone cut in front of her, so she plowed into me.  I got out and went to her window and asked her if she was okay.  She looked at me like I was crazy and asked me what I was talking about, that she hadn't done anything.  I told her she just hit me in the back end!  She looked at me and said, "I did not hit your car!"

I told her to back her car out of my trunk and we'd talk about it.  Then I just walked away and let the cops deal with her.

Status: offline 		While these are all very funny stories, you all have been quite lucky. All it takes is a nutjob with a gun and the funny story turns tragic. Road Rage is a serious problem and can, in fact, be deadly. There are reasons why I never come to a stop directly behind a car... it is so, if someone gets out of their car and wants to do harm to me or my passengers I can pull around them and try to get out of harms way.

The problem breaks down to something that I have said before on these boards, it is a general lack of respect for one another that drives this idiocy called Road Rage. Psychiatrists want to label Road Rage a disorder... that is complete and utter bullshit. It always seems that people look for a way to excuse their bad behavior and labeling this a disorder will only fuel that trend. "I am sorry your Honor. This guy was going too slow for my liking so I shot this person eight times because I have a psychological disorder." What a load of shit.

Why anyone would get out of their car to confront one of these morons is way beyond my scope of comprehension. This day and age you are really taking your life into your own hands.

I don't want to throw a wet blanket over the humor of these encounters but I really felt that this had to be stated loud and clear. Do not be foolish, this is dangerous.

Status: offline 		My sub and I were going down the highway in my SUV. My sub likes to ride with the seat reclined so unless you are in a taller vehicle you would not be able to see him. We were in the right lane as we were getting off on the next exit; I put my signal on and got into the exit lane. Suddenly this car comes flying up in the left lane and crosses in front of the other oncoming cars to get into the exit lane. He almost took the front off my SUV before passing us with a finger gesture and a laugh. At the end of this exit is a light. He looked back into his rear view mirror and I gave him the finger. All of a sudden, the driver door flies open and this guy gets out with this nasty expression on his face. Before he got to my door, my sub sat up in his seat, opened up his door, and got out. My sub is 6’3” and 248lbs of muscle, well this other driver turned around and got back in his car, locking his door before speeding off.
LOL we laughed our asses off at that jackass

I couldn't agree more!

One idea I heard tossed around on the radio was for cities to significantly increase the fines for road rage, but you would need more police officers to drive the undercover cars needed to nab people doing this.

Road rage seems to be an ever-growing problem with no end.

Don't want to accidentally hijack this thread, but I would be interested in hearing what others' thoughts were re. ways to reduce road rage.

Status: offline 		I think it's really stupid to do some of the things people are claiming they have done. Frankly, if someone is riding my bumper I get out of the way. If they're in that much of a hurry they can pass, it's no skin off my nose. If I see someone driving like he's in the Indy 500 I fall back and get as far away as possible. Eventually a driver like that is going to get into an accident and I'd rather not be the one who was not at fault - I'd rather avoid an accident waiting to happen altogether. I also don't feel the need to play 'enforcer' when someone else is driving like a dickhead. I know people who do this and it's a stupid passive-aggressive ploy to try and control someone else's driving habits for the good of all.  As if. All you do is tick somebody off who will eventually pass you and then drive like more of a jerk and potentially endanger others.  Obviously I don't suffer from road rage and I don't care to become embroiled in the rages of others. I just want to get from A to B safely.

Status: offline 		I've been driving since I was 16 (it was legal back then in the state I was living in).  35 years...in that time I've seen my share of accidents including death.  My dad taught me never to drive faster than you can process what's going on in front of you.  My driver's ed. teacher taught me to maintain peripheral awareness at all times.  Between the two and the years of experience, I've been able to see things coming long before anyone else does.
 
Because of this, I guess you could call me an opportunist.  If I find a hole in the traffic that nobody else sees, I take advantage of it and leave them all behind without having to do anything illegal.  It's just how I've come to drive.  I see other drivers out there (I call them, "frightened drivers") who drive down the road like zombies, never doing anything to maintain the flow when they could if they'd just open up their eyes.
 
I also live in an area with a heavy immigrant population.  Sometimes I think they still are used to riding donkeys by the way they handle their cars.  At the very least, they use roads like most people use a sidewalk...stopping for no reason in the middle of the road to look around, talk to each other, or just gawk at something.
 
I have a theory about how traffic on roads should be viewed.  To me, a road is like a vein carrying blood and the cars are the blood cells.  If everyone simply maintained the flow, there would be no bottlenecks but some people drive too fast while others drive too slow and still others won't get out of the way when they easily could.  It's a mess.
 
I've never caused an accident but have had a few morons run into me because they weren't paying attention.

Status: offline 		I use to be one with terrible road rage.  Driving on 85 in Atlanta @ 4pm  with stupid people that have no clue of a turn signal or how to maintain  speed, not freaking out and slamming on the brakes in the tunnels, (yes it's dark in there) stopping on the interstate  so as to get to their exit, (go to the freakin next exit)cars blocking the intersection...now no one can move,(this is what brights were made for)  driving 10 miles under the speed limit while the light is green, then speeding up right under the red, (this is what semi's jumping the green were meant for) pulling out in front of me  just to make the next turn and stop me and I'm the ONLY vehicle.( I want to know where you live), if you don't want to drive at least 75mph or passing, why the hell are you in the left lanes? I became so pissed, I purchased a gloke 40 cal. and eventually got a pemit to carry.

That was my mentality until one morning I witnessed a woman getting her head shot off at a red light because she pulled out in front of someone.  She's dead, he's in prison.  I no longer carry the gun. 

This week is the first week my 16 yo son is driving.

I can't believe how stupid I was. I learned to let it go. It's just not worth it.

Status: offline 		I lived all my life in a rural area, with one lane each way roads and no lane gravel roads. Now I live in Sydney Australia with traffic lights, multi lane roads/highways and cars, trucks and buses everywhere. It freaks me out. I've been here over 2 1/2 years and the only places I drive to alone are to the hospital, local shops and a couple of bigger shopping centres.

If we have to go further afield Master drives. The things you see people do....changing lanes without indicating, cutting you off, running through red lights (cos it was amber just before you entered the intersection ), trying to burn you off at the lights.....I have been tooted at TWICE because I stopped at a pedestrian crossing to let someone cross the road, and once when I wasn't quick enough for someone's liking when I was taking my ticket for the parking area.

I know I have to get myself used to it, and I am much better than I was when I first came here, but I find my palms sweating and my breath coming faster at just the thought of driving on the highways. I'd rather take a train I think!

Just because we respond lightly to a thread in here doesn't mean we don't take our real lives seriously or fail to recognize the dangers out there in the real world.

I never intended to insult or say that anyone here didn't take things seriously. I merely was reading through all of this and I felt compelled to post what I did just to bring a little... shall we say... balance to the subject. I meant no harm.
