Gay marriage is only a threat to married men who really wish they could be sucking cock.  The rest of us don't give a shit, as far as I am concerned the more gay men the better, less competition.

That's like saying prostitution ruin marriages. Since when did hookers grab married men and FORCE them to have sex?

well..i know for one...that the argument held by the gay community for the desire of legal same-sex marriages had nothing to do with the fact that we thought our relationships would last any longer than that of heterosexual ones.
we merely wanted the same rights. nothing fancy. nothing that anyone here as a heterosexual doesnt have. nothing more than the heterosexual community...nothing more than to be allowed the same right.
and that is from not only a homosexual stand point but a human stand point as well.
sincerely

I find it ironic that the people against gay marriage haven't banned divorce.

As pointed out, the majority are opposed to anything that doesn't conform to their norms. To a reasonable person everyone is entitled to live their life - unfortunately the reasonable are in the minority.

captive,

It's an education issue isn't it. As a society we don't have a clue, we're like dogs - give a dog a bone and he won't question it, he just wants his bone. We're the same with houses and cars, we're not that bothered how, where and at what expense we just want them - we're about as bright as dogs.

It's definitely time for a human cull!

Regards

Quite possibly and if there's any justice in this world all the half-wits lost in materialism and those who believe in racial and religious surperiority will slug it it out in a field somewhere in a last man stands fight to the death.........and the reasonable will inherit the earth :-)

If socialism isn't a materialist ideology I don't know what is. The one thing capitalism and socialism have in common is materialism!

Meatcleaver,

I'm open to ideas on this one so feel free to go ahead and explain the connection between socialism, capitalism and materialism.

Also, I didn't mention socialism in my quote. I have never said I am a socialist - you have labelled me one on numerous occasions. In fact, I have stated on a few occasions I am not a socialist. Do I admire socialists? By and large yes because they value social justice and internationalism but it doesn't make me one as I hold other values that socialists wouldn't agree with.

But, I enjoy a conversation on the three terms you mentioned so go ahead.

Regards

Okay, at the risk of being a one idea wanker on the forums I must say this: The gay marriage thing has everything to do with a failure to understand how rights work. (Yes, again with the "ethic of reciprocity." I'm so dull ain't I?)

The ethic of reciprocity, or the "The Golden Rule"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethic_of_reciprocity

Yeah, I have heard the anti-gay marriage arguments before. I have heard how government is going to lose tax monies. How the insurers will lose money having to insure more people. Etc. But I really don't think people think about those precise things at the voting booth. what they think about is denying a right to others because they are unwilling to respect the ethic of reciprocity.

I have even heard how some would argue that gay people have the same rights as non-gay people because gay people have the exact same right to marry a person of the opposite sex. Nice, ain't it? Of course that completely fails to address the issue of how gay people are actually demanding the same right in kind: the ability to marry their lovers and make them legally recognized partners. That's what straight people do: they marry their lovers, not members of the opposite sex (that's just an accident of circumstance). But sure, the argument is a perfectly hateful, mean-spirited load of crap from people that will not reciprocate the rights they feel they must possess and deny to others. Why? Because some people are assholes, that's why.

That the first gay married couple has been divorced is really quite perfect. I love it and applaud it. Why? Because that's the exact same right demanded by everyone else: if the marriage fails they want the right to dissolve the association. That first gay married couple got and received equal treatment.

Perfect!

Or, as Kinky Friedman has said, "I support gay marriage because I believe they have right to be just as miserable as the rest of us!"

Hopefully the Kinkster will become the next governor of Texas and Mr Hairspray can go back to the private sector.

I can't believe there's a politician that has the balls or wit to say something like that.  Awesome. We're taking back Texas!!
