Hello everyone,  I have been practicing shibari and mastered the basics of it.  Now I am wondering what could be a good source of information to too learn how to do the more intermediate tying up.  Tying a person's arm behind her back touching her elbows in a way that's actually comfortable comes  to mind.  I can do it by applying what I know with some trial and error, but when it comes to actually wanting to use that for playing or Dominating, it's just a pain to realise I got my sub's arm numb and having to start over.

Im not a huge lover of rope bondage, but a couple of my leather family members are. These are a few sites that are primarily geared towards it and I guess you can go further by following links from them. Hope theyre helpful, and enjoy. :)

http://www.ropedojo.com/home/?p=10   Midori's Rope Dojo

shibarilover.com

Plus you can do a google search for Delano Bound - I think its delanoindistress.com - lots of ropey goodness there :D

Nawa Shibari

Rope Fashions

These will help, but I recommend a rope bondage workshop.

Buy a Boy Scout book and practice the knot section.

Not quite the answer to your question, but...

You're not going to be able to tie just anyone's arms behind their backs with their elbows touching. I certainly am not limber enough to do it (if I would). Make sure they're limber enough to do it or you might tear something in their shoulder.

My apologies, I may have not been very clear since I wrote that before going to bed and I didn't reread myself.  What I meant is that the sub's right hands touches her left elbow (or wrist, doesn't matter) and vice versa.

Once you get the basics down there is no substitute for working with someone more experienced. Your profile says you are in Montreal.   I know Midori has been in your area a couple times and will be there again  October 28 and 29 for a rope dojo weekend.  You will learn more in that weekend that a year studying by yourself.  A google of Montreal rope bondage should give you hit on more information.

That Midori is again going to be in the area tells me that there has to be an active rope group.  The other side benefit of attending this type of event is making connections with others in your area.

I also cannot recommend Shibaricon highly enough for those interested in Japanese style rope bondage.  This will be the fourth year, Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.  Just about anyone with any connection with Japanese syle bondage has attended and benefitted.  Again google Shibaricon.

For books, of course Midori's is now the classic.  Bridgett Harringtons's new book has also been highly recommended.  It tends to be more practical bondage rather than "pure" Japanese.

Finally, search local groups for those who share you interest.  We recently formed a small SIG in St. Louis dedicated to bondage.  There are others around the country.

Thank you for the information, there were a group of websites I wasn't aware of, and they contained useful tips.  As for doing it with someone experienced, last time I checked for that the person charged 300$ US and even if I'm a student with a comfortable income, such a sum does remain outside my budget. This is most unfortunate however, considering I would love to have such an experience.

Great Question:

What is Intermediate Shibari?  I suggest it is when one begins to learn that there is more power in the rope and the gift of the submissive.  When one takes on the elegance and soul of the rope.  I recommend any training session by Jimi Tatu...at the following addy: www.ds-arts.com.

Jimi is well known in the Shibari Community and is teaching a 3 day workshop next week in Chicago.

Well I really meant intermediate on a technical ground.  I mean I can tie a sub in a comfortable and estetic way (I'm not sure if I wrote estetic right, first language is french.  is it?), but when it is a more complex tying like a breast harness, or if it requires the sub to stretch, I start having trouble doing it without struggling or looking on a webpage after every knot hehe
