Damn - Too much time on my hands to read and research during the usual business doldrums of August when vacations are rampant. If you have your vacation scheduled for the week of August 21st you many want to buy travel insurance.

As I follow the path of international negotiations concerning Iran, I found an interesting proposal for response given by the President of Iran.

I guess the question is - do you believe him?

quote:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has frustrated Western officials by refusing to reply to their offer of various incentives in exchange for Iran’s discarding its nuclear program until August 22. The Western governments had asked Ahmadinejad to reply by June 29; why would Tehran need two extra months?

Farid Ghadry, the president of the Reform Party of Syria, has offered a provocative explanation for this delay. He asserts that the Supreme National Security Council of Iran chose the August 22 date “for a very precise reason. August 21, 2006 (Rajab 27, 1427) is known in the Islamic calendar as the Night of the Sira’a and Miira’aj, the night Prophet Mohammed (saas) ascended to heaven from the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on a Bourak (Half animal, half man), while a great light lit-up the night sky, and visited Heaven and Hell also Beit al-Saada and Beit al-Shaqaa (House of Happiness and House of Misery) and then descended back to Mecca.…”
And now, according to Ghadry, Ahmadinejad is planning an illumination of the night sky over Jerusalem to rival the one that greeted the Prophet of Islam on his journey. What the Iranian President, he says, is “promising the world by August 22 is the light in the sky over the Aqsa Mosque that took place the night before. That is his answer to the package of incentives the international community offered Iran on June 6.”

And because I thought this was too wierd to trust one source, I checked a few others. All reported the same information.

Lotus,
I wish I could report that there is another side to this issue. It's interesting that President Ahmadinejad instills fear in his own people as much as the people he threatens. However, since he is following the religious dogma of the theocracy, he has no internal opposition. Iran's ranking Ayatollah says Ahmadinejad fulfills the will of Allah.

Unlike the Mayan 2012 due date for Armageddon this one is only a couple weeks away.

Aileen,
Don't forget, tomorrow is the day to open your Opus!

quote:

This year, August 22 marks the holy day on the Islamic calendar that is the day of reckoning for Shiites. Some Shiite sects believe that August 22 could correspond to the end of the world. And just today, after much hype, Iran has announced that it will continue to develop its nuclear program. To followers of Iranian President Ahmadinejad, this is a well-timed affront to Israel, the United States and the world. The United Nations had given Iran until the end of the month to respond, but Ahmadinejad had made it clear to all Iranians and the world that he intended to respond on the eve of August 22.
Whether or not this announcement is the end of Ahmadinejad's plans for August 22, one expert says we will have to wait and watch.

If you believe this (M&B I am not saying you do), but anyone who believes this can rest easy. Apparently the world has ended a few hundred times now. Doesn't seem to hurt a bit. The sky really IS still falling, but apparently it's never going to get here.

What really worries me is the little boy with his finger in the whole in the dike, sooner or later he is going to have to go to the bathroom. The Dutch really never did much wrong, unless you count their offer a few years ago of a few thousand dollars to any third world immigrant that would agree to leave. How racist, how bigoted, how mean. How dare they want their country for Dutch people. Hey, perhaps one of those immigrants could take that little boy's place at the dike, saving the race. Then they could get their equivalent of our H1B visa.

Back to Iran, do you think they would have leadership this radical if Jimmy Carter sent the Shah back ? Would they have occupied the US embassy there ? Hmmm ? Realize this, Saddam would have not been in power.

So, get pissed at Iran for getting pissed at us for not sending one of the worst butchers they had back for his just deserts. Supply Iraq because they are enemies. Well, normally now that Iraq is 'our' enemy, you would think thine enemy's enemy is thine friend, but Iran isn't falling for it. They know who the real enemies are and they'll just join in on the big glass parking lot project. And that is what's going to happen. Not on the 22nd though.

As insane as these people are, they won't use weapons that'll kill them too. But we will (depleted uranium armor piercing rounds, look it up).

T
