I really do tire of all the grammar snobs.  Ive said it before and it bears repeating...  Someone who happens to spell a little better than the average Joe, really has no high horse to ride in on.  A real English scholar would shred us all to ribbons.  Get over yourself and find another claim to fame.

That's a pretty nasty way to go. Lost our sence of humour have we? What positive thing have you done to day if I may ask???? At least the OP was being positive and had a great concept. Envious are we??

Ahh well there are those who enjoy threads for what they are and have fun with them, and there are those who love nothing better than to pick holes in other people's work, belittle then with poison pen comments or even just plant vitriol and misery in their posts.... Thank fully there is always the block button to keep their negativities from your day....

Yes of course you can ask what Ive done positive today.  Im an open book.   Ive cared for my child, made a living, helped a neighbor, and taken care of my home.  I think I will be able to sleep tonight.  No, Im not envious at all.  Im just a person with a feeling about the content of the OP.  Again let me state that it gets tiresome after while to see people who really havent a clue that they aren't experts at something, trying to BE an expert, especially with the grammar thing.  It seems to be rampant around here.

When a person opens up a thread asking for opinions, they have to expect that some negative opinions might get thrown in the mix as well.  This doesn't make me envious or negative, or a bad person in general, its just my feeling on this particular subject.

Ahh well there are those who enjoy threads for what they are and have fun with them, and there are those who love nothing better than to pick holes in other people's work,

Actually the OP was the first to pick holes in others peoples' work...starting with their profiles.  And it struck me about the same way that my picking holes in another, is striking you.

belittle then with poison pen comments or even just plant vitriol and misery in their posts.... Thank fully there is always the block button to keep their negativities from your day....

I belittled no one, nor was my comment poison.  It was simply a reflection of my feeling on the whole ripping people apart for poor grammar.   In fact I included myself on the part where I said we would all be torn up by a *real* scholar.   And I myself have to resist correcting peoples spelling.  I do so because I usually screw up myself right after I do that.  And its very irritating to people who most likely already know that their spelling sucks.  You really read far too much into my comment and assumed way more about me as a person than you should have, soley based on my reaction to a criticism of others by the OP, delivered with humor, or not.

As far as the block button, perhaps you should take your own advice.  You have clearly exhibited the same behavior that you criticise in me, except you've turned it up to a much more caustic and insulting level than my message was delivered.   I am surprised at you.

yourbadgal -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/28/2006 8:01:48 AM)

and what about people like me who dont have english as their first language
and have been too lazy to learn all the damn grammar rules..
YOU dont have problems with that, you just do it right because you know it
but i dont so i DO make mistakes..
you dont know how many silly/useless grammar rules your language has..

WetHotGoddess -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/28/2006 8:12:32 AM)

I think the NEED for editing is definitely there.  However, I do not think it would be as fun to browse profiles were they perfect.  After all, making fun of grammatikal errers (!) is fun and makes us feel superior and better about ourselves.
If all the profiles were perfect we could not critique them.
BTW please feel free to edit mine, I welcome suggestions.  It is hard to edit one's self.

devioussubkitty -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/28/2006 8:51:32 AM)

Damn, how did this get so major? Like I said, it was all in good fun. I never said I was perfect, nor anybody else, and I didn't say that the only reason people made mistakes was from laziness.

-sighs-

Again, I say, some people take things way too seriously.

purelea2003 -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/29/2006 1:23:16 PM)

This program will check the spelling of everything you type. It beeps and the icon in the system tray turns yellow. Correction is easy. It's free with no adware that I've noticed. I've been using it for some time with no negative effect on my XP system.  http://tinyspell.m6.net/ . It doesn't correct grammar or word misuse - but I think it's a great little program.

Solutions are good. Thanks to the OP for offering.

IronBear -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/29/2006 2:40:35 PM)

Really, you surprised at me? My response was actually quite mild compared to what I have used in the past.. But yes I did turn the heat up a little. Where as you took offence at the OP I saw some one who commented on how some profiles could be improved and the errors which many of us have commented on in many threads and on many occasions. Certainly you touched a sore point with me unknowingly hence my comment about belittling the work or proposed work of others. (Long story involving many people over a number of years. Suffice it to say that I also tire when I get people who have a habit with their first comments in effect tell me and others that we are wrong without knowing if we are experienced in what we propose to do. Many of these folk are under 35 and the ones targeted seem to be 55 and older.) What I do live to see is when anyone makes constructive comments and even offers solutions and/or help for those who may wish to avail themselves.. It is easy to shoot down someone who wants to do something even if they are not the most experienced person and by so doing, possible delivers a kick to the belly talking any desire to offer help in the future. This quite probably stops others from offering to help too.. However you will see things from your way and I shall merrily see them from mine….

Just realised what OP meant... -_-

I am not the forum whore I used to be.

marieToo -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/29/2006 6:05:38 PM)

"OP" baffled me for months.  Then I finally figured it out.  D'oh!

btw, devious, I really did not mean to jump on you.  I just lumped your OP in with all the others I see all the time coming down on some people whose language skills are weak. Its just something that rubs me the wrong way.  It reminds me of acting superior to someone simply because we have a particular strength in an area that they dont.  I have personal issues with ridiculing those who have weaknesses.   If that wasnt your drift, I apologize for assuming so.  :)

Ah, the 'real' English scholars I have known have had the most creative use of language ever; almost bending the rules, and giving the language a workout.

Besides, if a 'real' English scholar is anything like a 'real' Domme or a 'real' submissive, it would take a matter of years before she/he received clearance from this crowd to shred us all to ribbons.

It wasn't my drift. I wasn't ridiculing anyone. I know I'm not perfect. It was all in good fun.

You can dress a pig up in lace... but it's still a pig...

I'm sure someone would be impressed by a fancily clad pig, despite the fact it's still just a pig.

WetHotGoddess -> RE: Grammatically correct profile editing service... (7/30/2006 5:58:25 PM)

Ha how true.. and to the OP.. I NEVER take anything very seriously.
But it is easier to get to know someone for who they are if they use their own words.
Your service is a good idea, though and you should be commended for your desire to help.

Most of the accredited (formal academic accreditations)  English Scholars I know and had the pleasure of being taught by some fine ones at boarding school, were and are some of the most people I know regarding the mutilation of the spoken and written English language… Sadly for a few folks, I developed my personal love of the Edwardian Style of writing and playing with words.
