hysterical??
I think you must be high. Or suffering pre exaggeration.

their plans are the same rehashed ones from the past 8 years...
but if trump comes out with a plan that helps EVERYONE get healthcare I will change sides.

mnottertail -> RE: Replace Obama care? (2/19/2017 8:52:29 AM)

the total cost of medical malpractice lawsuits, including defensive tests and everythng, insurance premiums et al, is about 2.4% of healthacre.

nutsuckers are hallucintating.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Replace Obama care? (2/19/2017 8:54:32 AM)

Why are the likes of you so set against social healthcare??

For those of us that enjoy the benefits of such a system, it's a no-brainer.
Yet a huge chunk of the US just can't get their heads around anything which isn't an insurance-based system.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Replace Obama care? (2/19/2017 8:55:12 AM)

How many days was Comrade Trump in office when the pinko republicans jackals began dismantling it...2 days? Certainly wasn’t 1 week.

Replace it with what? A ditch?

Health care & medical conglomerates are out of control everywhere, but particularly in America.

Seems to me all Americans should pay a fixed tax rate

Why do you think that is FD - i myself have no idea

Different topic, and one which has been discussed aplenty.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Replace Obama care? (2/19/2017 9:11:02 AM)

The problem (as I see it) is American mentality.

They are too busy thinking of themselves as individuals rather than working together in a collaborative group for the benefit of all.
They would rather pay individually taylored insurance policies than consider anything along the lines of a single-payer system.
They honestly cannot get their heads round the concept.

Add to that, their ridiculous mal-practice claims for humungous $$'s just adds to the debacle.

Big pharma and the greedy insurance companies will eventually bleed the system dry.
But Americans seem to think that market forces will even itself out.
Well... it might; for everyone else except those in the USA.

Not so different.
You desperately need a replacement for Obamacare.
The GOP don't seem to have anything concrete up their sleeves.
So why not scrap the whole insurance gamut and go single-payer?

We don't say it's perfect.
But it's light-years better than any private health system.

Just look at the cost of US healthcare - it's ridiculous.
And, what's more, it is lower down the list of effective provisions.

No matter how you slice the cake, single-payer out-strips insurance-based systems on every front except cost to the individual.
It's a no-brainer.

Bullshit. There are more negatives than positives, one example being that every bureaucracy becomes politicized. We have "leaks" now from national Security agencies meant to further the interests of the Democrat party, the IRS was used to attack conservatives, ATF was used to give military grade weapons to Mexican narcoterrorists to further Democrat party goals, why would we make the health care system another tool of the Democrat party to be used for political purposes

"Leak" politicians' health records for political purposes etc. The Democrats are demonstrating that more government control means more Orwellian control, and any government bureaucracy WILL be weaponized for use against democracy

All nutsucker doings to date, you have been watching your Fake News again, havent you Ruprecht? If you keep doing it, you wont have any brains left to breathe with.

Thought not.

The government keeps the greedy insurance companies rich.
Again, no evidence that your system is anywhere near as good as single-payer systems.

Ummm... Nope.
Is everyone in the US covered?? No.
Can everyone afford it?? No.
Are all the medical needs met?? No.

At least here, everyone is covered and with pre-existing conditions.
Healthcare is delivered free at the point of delivery.

I've never understood the paranoia of Americans against government.
Most of that crap is just prejudice and rhetoric.
I've not seen any republican governments do any better either.
That's what elections are for.

The problem with US healthcare is the greedy insurance companies and big pharma ripping off the citizens - whatever class you're in.

This is a worthy discussion, but 'Medical costs' is a term that needs to be defined better.

Technology advancements, more health screenings, as well as more advanced treatment options all cost more than the lack of them. Health insurance costs money. Using it to see a doctor costs more, and using it to prevent, treat, or cure an illness costs more still.

Surgery scars are now usually much smaller than ever before. More medicines are available to manage incurable diseases, from diabetes and arthritis to hiv/aids. More treatment options are available for chronic pain and cancer. More people get more health testing and screenings than ever in our history.

If the costs had stayed the same, the outcomes probably would have as well. But most people know their family medical histories, know what diseases are prevalent in their families, and do more to ward them off in the first place, stay vigilant in monitoring their bodies for them, and even if unpreventable, we have more options than our parents and grandparents.

https://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Statistics-Trends-and-Reports/NationalHealthExpendData/NHEA-Related-Studies.html

This site has several quite informative pdfs. To better understand the whole picture, I'd recommend reading Catlin and Cowan: History of Health Spending in the United States, 1960-2013 [PDF, 1MB].

In reality, I expect healthcare costs to continue to go up. But that's not the actual problem. Nope. The problem is that real wages for most Americans haven't gone up enough to keep pace.
Thanx for the interesting post. Point well made.

As for defining things, I was just interested in finding out why if there was interest shown in health care legislation 20 years ago and Obama care is so "bad", why the Republicans seem to have waited to last minute and still have nothing to offer.
