Of course, the real target of GOP censorship wasn't Warren but Coretta Scott King, who'd written from experience about Sessions.

Apparently even dead black women who speak up are too scary for Senate Republicans.

One that appears to be quite selectively enforced.

ETA: Particularly given that Warren was quoting a third party not bound by Senate rules. This was about silencing an unwelcome voice, not protocol. And avoiding an inconvenient reminder that the Senate declined to confirm Sessions's nomination as a federal judge.

I dont believe she did, it is certainly not clear she did. I read the rule, and saw the speech. I will point out no nutsucker was clapped in irons when they disparaged Obama, or when the nutsucker Raphael Cruz disparaged Franken. Piss and moan that nutsuckers are not the bastion of free speech, cuz that is what is on the cart. What rules did any of the newscorps break that Il Douchebag is denying them access?

Attempt to intimidate the media (check)
Replace facts with propaganda (check)
Incite fear as excuse for overreach (check)
Demonize a whole religion as the enemy (check)
Seek to undermine judicial independence (check)
And now: Silence the opposition (check)

Just another stop on the road to authoritarianism.

its disturbingly fascinating that he equates being censured because of a violation of operating rules as akin to "congress passing a law prohibiting..."

but then, this is the same person who thinks rioting is "free speech" too.

and that despite his incessant attacking of others for using blogs, or criticizing blogs as sources, he continues to use them.

lastly, im pretty sure too ive seen him pick on others because of spelling errors. I was wondering for a moment if we were talking about Hippocrates as opposed to hypocrisy.

mnottertail -> RE: On nutsuckers and free speech (2/8/2017 5:50:01 AM)

It is typical of dogshit44 to not know what the rule is, and that she did not violate it, she was denied free speech by the nutsuckers for reading a letter written by Coretta Scott King.

And as I pointed out, no action was taken against the nutsucker Raphael Cruz for a direct attack on Sen. Franken.

“Senator Franken engaged you in a discussion that I think was intended to undermine your character and integrity. And in particular, Senator Franken suggested that you had somehow misrepresented your record,” Sen. Cruz said. “It is unfortunate to see members of this body impugn the integrity of a fellow senator with whom we’ve served with for years. It is particular unfortunate when that attack is not backed up by the facts.”

But of course it was backed up by a litany of facts, by the principles involved. And Raphael 'closet' Cruz was not censured.

Suck a wad of cowpiss you felchgobbling cockgargler. Lock up the constitution violating, senate rules violating partisan hack nutsuckers.

Cockgargle the qualitative difference here for me dogshit44, you ignorant fuckwhistle. Go suck the snake tears out of Trumps ass.

Lucylastic -> RE: On nutsuckers and free speech (2/8/2017 5:51:59 AM)

Apparently, according to the GOP leader, reading the letter from Martin Luther King’s widow was, in effect, too mean. McConnell pointed to Rule XIX, which says senators cannot “directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another senator or to other senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a senator.”

In other words, Coretta Scott King’s concerns about Sessions’ record 30 years ago might hurt Sessions’ feelings, so, in the interest of maintaining decorum in the chamber, Republicans felt compelled to shut Warren down. Of all the things McConnell could’ve chosen to pounce on, he chose concerns about Sessions, race, and civil rights from MLK’s widow.

Of course, the Streisand Effect immediately kicked in, and by silencing the Democratic senator, Republicans inadvertently raised her profile and brought more attention to the remarks she intended to make.

Indeed, Warren ultimately read the King letter anyway, not from the Senate floor, but from a Senate hallway where it was streamed online – for an audience of nearly 50,000 people.

Thats what you call a backfire
