Level -> Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 10:44:48 AM)

Misogyny: hatred of women
Misandry: hatred of men
Misanthropy: hatred of people

How much, if at all, do you see of this in the kinky world?

I learned of these words while IN the "kommunity" :/

They are easily cloaked by using the "That's just my way of thinking/kink/my lifestyle"

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 10:57:53 AM)

I havent seen it at all...but then again, I havent been in the lifestyle That long.

juliaoceania -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:02:45 AM)

Unfortunately hatred is everywhere

Caretakr -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:03:21 AM)

One thing I learned early on, this lifestyle is a freak magnet.

You have to be patient, and do a lot of filtering.

do not forget about "Self-Hatred"

But does BDSM have more than its fair share? A lifestyle where control and "violence" are seen as the norm? Where women telling men they're shit, or men telling women they're whores? Sure, a lot of it is kink and play, but......[8|]

sublizzie -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:12:39 AM)

I'd say I've seen a little of each in my limited forays into this world, both on-line and real-time. I must admit there's more that I've seen on-line than real-time though.

I've also discovered that most young men who are looking at women my age have HUGE issues with their mothers and, frankly, I'm not willing for them to beat their mother by beating me.

Would that be "Me-anthropy"? LOL

Seriously, Knight, I had not thought of that. Think it exists "here" much?

lizzie, I wonder if the higher percentage you see is due to it being easier to get away with things online?

sublizzie -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:18:13 AM)

Level,

Probably. It's too danged easy for people to put on their "Internet" personality and take off all of their inhibitions (some of which should stay ON). Sometimes it's just easier to see on-line because there's a written record to refer back to and compare.

Intent is everything.

Of the first, unfortunately, I've seen this the most-much in the form of disrespect and devaluing of Women. But then again, in society as a whole, that is a common enough occurance, sadly.
Of the second, I've seen a bit of that-though thankfully, not as much as the first.  But even a little, is too much.
Of the third, there are always one or two, so unhappy within themselves, they feel the need to make everyone else around them as miserable as they are, to feel any self-gratification and value.

Hatred is a totally useless emotion...and a complete waste of energy.  It serves no purpose but to devour your own self, from the inside out.

I do believe all of them exist here, but all are rather rare and not all that obvious, except in the more extreme of cases.

I do not find it hateful to humiliate someone that likes it...smiles

No, me either *grins*. But I wonder about those that use kink as a shield to enact hate (even some who may not see it as hate) upon others. And, if one likes it, but as Lotus Song said, the intent of the dominant is hateful, where does that fall in the scheme of things?

juliaoceania -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:41:48 AM)

Well I suppose some abusive people use the lifestyle as an excuse to be abusive. I know that for me when I have someone tenderly giving me aftercare, and making sure I am ok, it could hardly be seen as hateful. I only know my own experience.. my Dom enjoys my reaction to the things he does to me, it is his "domspace". It wouldn't matter if it took tickling me, beating me, massaging me... whatever.. it is putting me into subspace that creates his domspace.. so although I am sure that some self haters and some haters do  WIITWD, I haven't experienced it.

It really is such a subjective thing...

If someone insults another person and the person doesn't see it (as in a backhanded compliment), then was it an insult? If a tree falls and no one hears it,, did it make a sound?

crouchingtigress -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 11:56:06 AM)

hi level,

no i dont notice a different ratio of haters here then in vanilla life.

when i have ever met a hater, and gotten a closer look i have found with out exception that they are afraid and insecure ...and when you look even closer, they just want to feel loved...and when you love them...everything melts.

I would answer "yes" to both of those [8|].

SexyRed -> RE: Misogyny, Misandry, and Misanthropy (7/23/2006 12:03:10 PM)

I have found all of the above to be true, especially in men who dislike women an resent them. In the vanilla world they cannot get the satisfaction of "acting out" as they do in this world, so it becomes more sticky here. A man who cloaks his abusive nature toward women in the "but you are submissive so you must like/approve/take/accept what I do" is more dangerous than the vanilla guy who exhibits his misogyny in more subtle ways.

Sadly, I found out in my last relationship, the guy above as described, also hates people in general and probably himself, although he seems to adore himself and not care about the carnage he leaves behind.

Sometimes, when someone tells you they hate you in a scene, believe them.
