jlf1961 -> The human species and violence (10/2/2016 9:39:42 AM)

I have often said that humans just enjoy killing each other, going so far as to say it is genetic.

Guess what people?

Science has proven me correct.

quote:

As a species, humans have inherited very violent traits, including the capacity to kill each other, according to a new study from the University of Granada in Spain published in the journal Nature.

Researchers studied murder rates of more than one thousand mammal species and found out that closely related species show similar tendencies. Humans are “particularly violent” thanks to our evolutionary tree. The average murder rate for mammals is of three killings per every 1,000 deaths. Meanwhile, the average murder rate for early humans and the closer primates in the evolutionary tree was of twenty killings per every 1,000 deaths.

Of course, there is a famous line from a highly popular movie I also like, which pretty much sums up humanity as well.

quote:

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

Agent Smith, The Matrix (1999)

So we got cops in the US killing unarmed african american males, Islamic terrorist killing everyone, not to mention god knows how many other ideological terrorist groups, street gangs, countries, and individuals around the planet.

Then you have scientists that, after coming up with nuclear weapons, decided that since those would kill everyone, have come up with bigger and more efficient conventional bombs that can be guided into your office.

We have developed a gun that will not actually fire the bullet until the computer has calculated the absolute perfect shot so you cant miss.

And while we are hell bent killing each other, we come up with brilliant ideas like tearing down a forest to put up a shopping mall, got a toxic substance to get rid of, dump it somewhere.

But of course, at the rate humanity is running headlong into oblivion, it wont matter much in the next 200 years, because the odds are that there wont be enough humans left to do squat.

PeonForHer -> RE: The human species and violence (10/2/2016 9:57:32 AM)

Now, I have to say that that wasn't a very cheering OP, Jeff.

WhoreMods -> RE: The human species and violence (10/2/2016 10:17:00 AM)

For somebody who's meant to be computer generated, I always thought Agent Smith's frame of reference in that line is massively limited*. We're not even the only primate who does that, never mind mammals (do they not have rats where the Watchowski siblings come from?), and don't even get me started on the insects that do that.
Mind you, what else do you expect from a couple of tonks who can't even get the Gnostic stuff they shoehorn into every bastard film they do≠ right?

*(A polite way of saying "completely wrong")
≠(I'm not sure it's in Speed Racer as I haven't seen that one, but I would not be surprised if it was)

So you recently got religion jlf?

Religion is claimed [by atheists] to be outdated, and if you look one step further, you will find that religion, (such as the Christian religion) even teaches the causes, but today religions are all evil in the minds of atheists who are unashamedly hijacking religious principles in the name of their secular religion.

So yep you have one group that is unrighteous which forces another group to fight back. Cant help but sorry for the muslims being trampled upon the false god of commercial imperialism.

Wasn't meant to be cheering.

When I worked specialized security, the firm I worked for had contracts with the WHO, so I got to travel the world and go to exotic places.

One of my most searing memories is going out with a team of doctors and nurses to vaccinate a village in Africa. We arrived to find the entire village had been massacred, and the local military was already on scene.

I asked one of the soldiers "why?"

Turns out the village was wiped out because they were a different tribe than the neighbors.

I went to Brazil and remember flying over the rain forest, or what used to be the rain forest, and seeing a few hundred square miles burning to clear it for farming.

A few months later the rainy season hit, and all that wonderfully rich topsoil washed into the Amazon, basically making the land useless, the people that burned the rain forest up and moved and started the process all over again.

Google Centralia Pennsylvania or Picher, Oklahoma.

Oh hell just read this.

So the argument reduces to scale?

How would we justify the dresden holocaust?

1/2 million burned alive and melted into the asphalt in 14hours by churchil and eisenhower? (who were never brought up on charges, and insted promoted) Gives a whole new meaning to "its not who ya know but who ya blow" doesnt it?

We are taught we fought the good fight. The big guy you worked for as well as the big guy in the UK both admitted they were going to use 'terror' and they did, but now that the standards have been set and its becoming popular the creators launch a war against terror?

Do you see whats wrong with this piture?

Does this not [for th emost part] all stem from unrighteous actions of one or a group against another one or group causing them to react in self defense?

I don't have a problem with what you presented and don't lament it. I've always accepted it and have always been confused by people that have bumper stickers that say, "Can't we all just get along". Well, not really confused, I just didn't understand why those people pretended to a higher understanding since they certainly didn't understand their own genetic roots.

I'd like to add a corollary. People packed into tight places, cities, tend to experience negative nervous energy that seems to aggravate this sort of thing. I believe that's been shown with lab rats and I believe it's true with people as well.

That said I can take this to the next logical step with regard to reasons why. I completey disagree with the 'racism' BS that has permeated society, because no one gives a shit about what color ones skin is.

When we peek under the veil that has been pulled over most peoples eyes this all boils down to 'culturalism', not racism. People hate other people because they are not the same culture and do not see things the same as they do.

Now the the real kick in the ass is that cultures develop as a result of yep....tada "religion".

Which is why religion has become the 21st century demon to be dismantled by statists, especially since its an inherent right. [8D]

Oh so close. So you're assertion is that Tibet, China, Korea, Vietnam, and Japan all have the same culture due to a Budhist underlaid culture.

This study is nonsense. It groups human beings with hares and rats when evaluating murder rate and fails to consider human cooperation reducing fatalities through misadventure, starvation or other natural causes. As a species, human beings' intelligence and ability to cooperate reduces deaths due to all of these factors, thus making more individuals available to be murdered over time. Plus it utterly fails to consider life-cycles. Animals which have faster life-cycles and breed at a faster rate than humans will naturally see more deaths due to natural causes over the same time period and thus will suffer a 'lower' murder rate.

This is fucking pseudo-science.

Actually a study was done on sika deer and found the same thing.

I have the article but now Dropbox will no longer render in a browser so you would have to download it first and it is multiple file because it is a series of JPGs scanned from a book.

Nice you brought that up so I can rant some more! LOL

Not quite like that.

One charateristic of religion is that it is deeply introspective regarding ones personal experience with everything that involves 'life' generally, and ones religion governs ones actions in response to the environment and interactions between one and another.

That said I disagree with the 'assumed' necessity that religion requires mob consensus, that is completely bogus corporate propaganda.

Hence you will find many flavors that are classified under the same title for convenience sake but they are far from the same in substance when examined line item by line item, hence different cultures unser the same title with completely different religions carrying the same 'general' classification.

I find the recent popular religion of Gia to be anything but introspective. I would postulate that introspection is a personal thing despite a cultural norming of tribal interactions. I see that the tribal norming affects the practice of the religion and not the other way around.

Oh sure, peer pressure, but which came first the chicken or the egg? Not withatanding all those who lazily simply follow another.

The question to ask about religious practice is 'does it *forcibly* infringe' upon another of a different religion in an 'injurious' manner.

Baking wedding cakes and poly comes to mind, the force of a state religion over private religion the result which caused an injured party in both cases.

Most of the bitching about those from Aussies seems to be from pussies who resent the fact that they're re-entering the food chain a lot nearer to the bottom when they go in the sea...
