Plenty of other people hold the same double standard.

I wasn't aware that Cosmo had standards. They wrote articles like 20 things that will drive your man crazy in bed, none of which actually do.

I don't really see what's to "larf" about. You may not care for the messenger, but the point is valid.

All of these glossy mags have been like it since their inception.
It's nothing new.
And for the most part, people don't give a flying fuck about it.
For those that buy them, it's exactly why they buy them.

Kaliko -> RE: Cosmopolitan's double standards (8/8/2016 5:37:17 AM)

Well, being in my mid forties now, I agree about the lack of impact such magazines should have. My former 20 year old self would disagree. Glamour, Cosmo, Elle....these were my magazies of choice. Different today with the internet, I'm sure, but Cosmo still has its niche.

Yes, this is the only double standard that cosmo has ever printed.
Its the first point ever made about double standards.
No Magazine ever mens, or womens or any popular printed womens magazine has ever held to one standard.
Anyone that thinks cosmo speaks for anyone but their advertising is crazy.
Thats why they rarely show anything but models and celebrity, have stupid fucking quizzes.
I havent read a womans magazine since the 80s.
Pics of perfect size 0 women, how realistic is that?
how to diet for that perfect date
its all bullshit.
Yeah, I really do gotta larf, becauase its pathetic

The point being that Cosmo has double standards? I'm not sure it has *any* moral standards. It's just a trash magazine, as far as I'm concerned.

Kaliko -> RE: Cosmopolitan's double standards (8/8/2016 6:07:54 AM)

Agreed. But its readers would probably disgree...or haven't reached a point where they care much about disagreeing. So they are ingesting it as is.

That mag - and lots like it - has been utterly resistant to criticism for as long as I can remember.

stef -> RE: Cosmopolitan's double standards (8/8/2016 9:42:44 AM)

Poor Little Nicky. Are you going to cancel your Cosmo subscription over this?

Oh ffs... that mag is owned by the hearst corp (first published in 1886) and all the f'n Ceo's of hearst have been MEN.. so go blame yer own kind if you dont like what they put out..

btw, do you complain about the mens mags that publish articles on how sorry arsed dudes can get "the girl of their dreams", keep her and make her happy? same f'n shite, just change a few words around.. she instead of he.. blah, blah, blah.. who cares?

btw 2,.. do you complain when women have to pay 2 to 10+ times what you do for a freaking haircut????? I stopped going to get mine cut cuz it takes all of 2 minutes to cut and why should i pay more cuz i dont have dangly bits?

SunDominant -> RE: Cosmopolitan's double standards (8/9/2016 2:56:25 PM)

I stopped paying attention to Cosmo covers when I was waiting in the checkout line (queue for me Brit friends) after I realized they ignore the all-important E-Cup demographic. They obviously haven't done their research.

Nope. It's never, ever the richest and most powerful people who are at fault. Perish the thought.

One of just the most gobsmacking things I've done in the past is to leaf through Cosmo and find an article about anorexia and its relation to over-skinny models in adverts ... then, turn a couple of pages to find, yes, an advert involving an over-skinny model. I've seen that more than a few times.

You read all the way through Cosmo, pump yourself full of all the exquisite aesthetic perfection of womanhood; finally, after you've been suitably destroyed inside, redemption is at hand in the final few pages in the form of hundreds of adverts for cosmetic surgery. Brilliant!
