Greta75 -> Iran tells Russia they should team up against US (11/24/2015 6:30:30 PM)

I am still annoyed at this nuclear deal for them.

Look at them being so defiant and now trying to woo Russia on their side to team up against the US. If Russia, China and Iran sticks together, US has problems. I know China is always more on Russia side than US side, that's for sure.

Russia and Iran are BFF's already. I think the peaceful nuke tech Iran is going to be allowed to get is coming from Russia.

I, for one, am not shocked. But, Article V (at least that was what was quoted in an article I read about Turkey) of the NATO charter says that an attack on any NATO member is considered an attack on all NATO members. So, if Russia and Iran want to team up against the US (or Turkey, another member state), they will be teaming up against all of NATO. That's quite a bigger bite to chew.

Termyn8or -> RE: Iran tells Russia they should team up against US (11/25/2015 8:59:16 PM)

Yes, but they are smart enough not to be the aggressor. The US will be. Putin is not going to start the big one, he has it good. He could play poker with Bill Gates. He practicaly owns Russia, and that is his homeland and I think he more loyal to it than many of our politicians are loyal to us.

Contrary to popular belief, Russia is enjoying a quite nice economy, in much part to their oil, but also in much part to work. In Soviet times they would say "They pretend to pay us so we pretend to work". Now, they got goods in the stores, money in their pockets and really do like Putin. So at the very least they are not paying $600 for a hammer. (NOT a berillium hammer either)

They now have missiles that go at least twice as fast and far as what the US has. The F-35 is a boatanchor, they would be better off building F-16s, which the "Turkey" (F-35) cannot beat in practice dogfights.

The problem in this country is that we have rewarded failure for so long we can no longer win a war nor think of a better way to achieve "our" financial goals. Bomb bomb bomb. The only ground war we ever won was Iwogima, and that had a cost that was too high. For a picture of guys raising a flag, how many lives were spent ? We do not win on the ground, do you want to know why ?

It is damn hard to beat people on their home turf. Shit, you bet on a football game and consider a home field advantage. this is warfare where these people know where every nook and cranny is, every alley, which streets are blocked off and where there are barriers to the highways or whatever. (like they installed here about 15 years ago)

It is like robbing a house full of armed people who know how to shoot. Nobody in their right mind would even consider it without knowing ALL the details, because if you all get killed the mission is not accomplished and you are dead. Try it at a diamond exchange or a high end gun store. (them guys are armed to keep people from stealing their machine guns, you ain't getting away with shit)

So we got all these wars and got nowhere except that on top of the higher oil costs, if for no other reason than the US military's taste for it, absolutely nothing to show for any of this. Enemies we never had to make.

And now really, I do not know if I will see the end of it. Probably the beginning of the end and then for all eternity I will be tortured by wanting to know how it turned out.

Well not really, I do not believe in that shit but I thought I would make a little joke.

There is always some punkassmotherfucker who thinks they have a right to poke their nose into the internal affairs of a soverign nation not their own.

Look at them being so defiant and now trying to woo Russia on their side to team up against the US.

Look at you being so arrogant as to believe you have right to dictate how other soverign nations behave?

If Russia, China and Iran sticks together, US has problems. I know China is always more on Russia side than US side, that's for sure.

Top 10 trading partners of the China.
Where is russia on this list? Once you figure that out tell us why china would choose russia?

Russia has, disparagingly, signed on with France. Not with the U.S.

They have agreed to hit ISIL/ISIS with no discretion.

Avoiding all Syria issues they had previously.

Which is...an embarrassment.

NO country (other than the UK and Israel) has agreed to sign on with the U.S. (other than UN subscribed).

Obama is a humiliation.

You are SERIOUSLY annoyed that the Iran has RESTRICTIONS regarding their nuclear program? You would prefer that they have no restrictions?

I guess you didn't quite grasp what the deal was about:

quote:

The accord will end decades of economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.

Russia is selling the Iranians the equipment to make low enrichment power plant fuel as the Iranians dismantle the equipment capable of making high enrichment (bomb grade) fuel. Part of the deal brokered by the IAEA.

Just an FYI on nuclear biz...

The 4-6 percent enrichment needed for commercial nuclear power plant fuel can be done by strictly chemical methods.

To get bomb grade enrichment (>75% enriched) you need to use gaseous diffusion methods. This is done by making the uranium into uranium hexaflouride gas and putting it through a series of very high speed centrifuges. The heavier U-28 goes to the outside leaving lighter U-235 near the center. You need a lot of cascading centrifuges to get highly enriched uranium. Uranium hexaflouride gas is highly corrosive to any type of container making gaseous diffusion really dangerous mojo to work with.

The IAEA, International Atomic Energy Agency, has been after Iran to allow inspectors in for nuclear bomb non-proliferation inspections for 20 years or more. Despite U.S. political interference with the IAEA efforts; progress on getting transparency into Iranian nuclear programs has finally born fruit.

Iran is buying nuclear fuel manufacturing tech from Russia mainly because they don't trust the U.S. to pour a glass of water for them. A lot of that is historical as the U.S. propped up the Shah before the revolution during the 1970s. The other part is, if you can believe Iranian press, the NSA was responsible for their enrichment plant being hacked and centrifuges being made to overspeed and tear out their bearings. That could have resulted in a huge release of corrosive, poisonous, radioactive uranium hexaflouride gas into the environment gassing tends of thousands of people.

The IAEA is the organization that does oversight of international treaties dealing with nuclear material. (Nuclear Weapon non-proliferation treaty administration is one of the more headline producing mandates.) The IAEA and ICRP, International Commission on Radiological Protection, set international standards that national governments adopt into their legal codes. (i.e US Nuclear Regulatory Commission statutes were changed in 1994 to reflect ICRP recommendation reports from 1976) You get some variances between countries such as U.S. and Canadian federal laws on radioactive material work both follow ICRP but comply in different manners.

Just sharing some things that are work related for me. 30+ years working in radiation protection.
